Name: ____________________________________________________ Period: _________ Date: ___________________________________ Poetry / Word Cloud Project The objectives of this project are to share an expression of an idea or feeling in the form of an existing song/poem song or an original poem, and to show your knowledge of the poetry terms and devices. PROJECT REQUIREMENTS/DIRECTIONS : 1. Choose an existing poem/song OR write an original poem. (If you choose to write an original poem it must be between 10-12 lines in length.) The subject matter is up to you, but it MUST BE APPROPRIATE for a Catholic school classroom. Inapporiate subject matter or language may result in a “0” and may be reported to the dean. NOTE : 10 points will be given for writing an original poem; original poems MUST be sumbitted to turnitin.com or project will receive a “0”. 2. You will need to identify 3 DIFFERENT poetic devices (simile, metaphor, personification, onomatopoeia, alliteration, rhyme, repetition, hyperbole, etc.), and they must be used correctly in the song/poem. You MUST identify them by highlighting and labeling them ON the copy of the song/poem. 3. You must select 7-10 words that you consider most important in the song/poem. Go to the following website to create a Word Cloud using these words: www.tagxedo.com . Follow the directions on the back of this sheet to create your word cloud. Print out the finished word cloud in color, if possible. If not , use colored pencils, markers, or crayons to add color to your word cloud. 4. You must write one paragraph (5-8 sentences) explaining the theme & meaning of the song/poem and how the shape of your word cloud relates to the song/poem. Paragraph must be DOUBLE-SPACED, with the correct heading, and include an original title. ***Please follow the teacher's instructions for the format of the project. *** The song/poem MUST be TYPED using Times New Roman Font, Size = 12. Your full heading should be on the page with your paragraph You MUST include the TITLE of poem/song, and EITHER your name (original poem) or the name of the writer/artist (poem/song) at the top of the page. Fold the paper in half like a card. Place the Word Cloud on the front of the card and song / poem & paragraph on the inside. [If the word cloud is vertical, then the song/poem should be printed using “portrait” and glued onto the left side of the card, and paragraph on the right. If the word cloud is horizontal, then song/poem should be printed using “landscape” and glued onto the inside, top of the card, paragraph on the bottom.]

1. Using Firefox OR Safari browser , go to www.tagxedo.com2. Click on Create or Start Now.3. Click Load4. Type 7-10 important words from your song/poem in the "Enter Text" box.5. Click Submit.6.
