Incoming 8th Grade Students Summer Reading Activities: “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Diary of a Young Girl”

Both books can be found in bookstores (online or in store). These are the preferred editions of the two books:

Summer Reading Activities

Dialectic JournalsFor both novels, the student is required to complete dialectical

journals with 15 entries for each book (i.e. 15 entries for TKAM and 15 for DOAYG). Guidelines and instructions are on the dialectical journal file. May be either handwritten or typed.

VocabularyFor each set of vocabulary words, the student is required to find

at least two synonyms for each word. Vocabulary words can be found on summer reading vocabulary words file. May be wither handwritten or typed.

Dialectical journal entries and vocabulary assignments for both novels are due hardcopy on the first day of school during the beginning of reading class.
