January 6, 2017 Dear First Grade Parents, Welcome back from a hopefully restful winter break. The children looked well rested and ready to learn! We were so excited to welcome two new students to our first grade family. Uzi Garren is in 1A and Romy Darsa is in 1B. The children were so welcoming to the new students. This week we reviewed the letter Kaf. For Kaf we learned the words Kad (Pitcher), Kachol (blue), Kotev (writing one boy), Kotevet (writing for one girl), Kitah(class), Ko’ev (hurts, pain), and Dag ba Kad (There is a fish in the pitcher). We read a story about Bina and her brother waking up in the morning. “Boker tov Bina veDov”. We also read a story called “Ooops”. It was about Shachar’s mom trying to wake him up to go to school and all the things he kept on forgetting on the way to school. The kids loved it. We also learned about the letter Chaf and Chaf/Kaf Sofit. The new words we learned are Kochav/Kochavim (star/stars), Bocheh/Bochah (cry for boy/girl), and Melech (king). The children wrote very nice sentences in Hebrew using the word Kotev and Kotevet. We are going into our theme of our body parts. We learned some wonderful Hebrew songs about the different parts of our body. We played Shimon Omer (Simon says) with the Hebrew body parts. We are going to create guf (body) posters for each child. I can’t wait to see what they look like!! This week’s parsha is Vayigash. We have re-united Yoseph with his eleven brothers and Yaakov his father. We are going to have a weekly big idea to think about from the weekly parsha. This week’s big idea is “Always forgive when someone is sorry”. Parsha questions are in their green folders. Please do not forget to save the date for Chag Hasiddur on Tuesday February 14 th , 2017 at 9:00am. Your child will be getting their parts next week taped to their green HW folder. Please make sure to practice their part with them. Each child needs to memorize their part for the play.

I am monitoring the Tal Am online program once a week. Please make sure your child is finishing each letter completely. They can do up until Kaf.

Please remember to send your child’s library book by Fridays. Some students did not have their book today and they were disappointed.
