Tuesday 3/7/17 Reading: Bigger Books Means Amping Up Reading Power. 30-40 minutes of reading. Fill in your reading log. Tonight, check on your comprehension as you read. At the end of each chapter, or after reading at least 3-4 pages, jot down some questions you have as you read. For example: “Iris is (how is she acting?) because she is (how is she feeling?)” Ex: “Iris is yelling because she is mad at her baby sister.”
Writing: Opinion Writing. Choose one of your opinion ideas and begin writing your new opinion piece. Use the checklist and the mentor text to help you.
Word Study: Complete the –air word list.

Social Studies: New York City Over Time. We are now learning about the City of New York from the past to the present. Read the article, “Technology and Change,” and be on the lookout for reasons and examples of what caused New York City to change. After reading the article, answer the following question: Why do you think the invention of skyscrapers was important in New York City’s history? Use details from the text to explain your answer.

Mentor Opinion Writing
Opinion: Swimming is great
Hey! Have you ever wanted to try a cool sport? Something that is fun and good for you? If you said yes, you should learn to swim! (opinion)
Swimming is a great. One reason why swimming is great is because it is fun. You can dive in a big pool by doing cannon balls or just jumping in (example). Whenever I go swimming, I love to make a big splash when I dive.
Another reason why swimming is great is because you can play fun games. You can play water volleyball and Marco Polo with your friends and family. My family and I love playing volleyball in the water. It’s fun to throw the ball around to each other.
One other reason why swimming is great is because it is great exercise. Swimming helps your muscles get stronger because when you move in the water your muscles are working harder.
So, if you want to try a fun and healthy activity take my advice and go swimming!
