UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS 3D BATTALION 6TH MARINES 2D MARINE DIVISION PSC BOX 20100 CAMP LEJEUNE NC 28546 IN REPLY REFER TO: lOO(l JDW 20 MAR 12 From: To: Captain Joshua Winfrey, Battalion Operations Officer Whom it may concern Subj: LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION IN CASE OF CORPORAL CHRISTPOHER A. BELLO 1. This letter of recommendation is forwarded with pleasure. I worked with Chris for 15 months as his company commander. During this time he distinguished himself by his attitude and actions, demonstrating quality leadership, professional ability, and devotion to the Marines of Lima Company. In garrison, field training, and combat environments he was a key member of the leadership team in the Lima Company Headquarters, bringing valuable experience, a determined work ethic, and a positive attitude throughout a chaotic and accelerated operational tempo. 2. Throughout pre-deployment training, Chris was central in preparing the Company administratively for forward deployment in support of major combat operations. As the Company Clerk, he was responsible for every facet of administration in the Company to include maintenance and accountability of all personnel records for the 200-plus Marines in the Company, managing volumes of data contained in each of their individual records, training records, and records of emergency data, and tracking their eligibility and qualifications for promotion. His intelligence and keen ability to multi- task were critical in balancing the litany of administrative requirements across the Company with the considerable demands of pre-deployment training. His efforts were critical in streamlining Company tracking and reporting procedures, facilitating quick and timely personnel management decisions for the Company leadership, and greatly enhanced the overall efficiency and effectiveness of Company operations. His diligence and thorough attention to detail throughout the Company's accelerated pre-deployment training program were an integral part of preparing the Company to deploy to Afghanistan and proved invaluable in ensuring the Company's smooth transition into combat operations. 3. When the company deployed in January 2010 to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Chris was ready for any and all challenges. In addition to continuing his outstanding performance with his administrative duties, he excelled in a variety of other roles directly supporting the Company's counterinsurgency operations. From personal security details to detainee operations to serving as a radio operator in the Company Command Post, Chris demonstrated incredible versatility, work ethic, courage and unselfishness in an intensely challenging and austere environment. Always observant and attuned to the complexities of the battlespace, he demonstrated sound decision-making at every turn and never wavered or complained regardless of the task he was given. Throughout the deployment, he consistently demonstrated a level of intell~gence, reliability, hard work and dedication to the Marines in the Company that outshined his peers and made him one of the "go-to" guys in the Company Headquarters.
