Good Friday, Good Food, Great CompanyAnnual Easter Celebration for Homeless and Low Income

WHAT: For nearly 20 years the Denver Rescue Mission and Volunteers of America have partnered in feeding approximately 500 homeless and low-income people at Easter. All men, women and children are invited to the annual Easter Celebration at the Lawrence Street Shelter beginning with a chapel service and communion. Guests will receive a warm Easter meal including honey glazed ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, mixed greens, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, and peach cobbler for dessert. Thanks to Runners Roost, each attendee will receive a pair of shoes and socks, with the option of a foot exam administered by medical professionals. Volunteers will wash the feet of the homeless in remembrance of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples.

WHY: The Easter Celebration is a special occasion for the Mission to treat guests to more than just a meal. The Denver Rescue Mission and Volunteers of America seek to provide not only for physical needs, but also spiritual needs of those who come through the door. Worship, communion and washing of the feet are offered out of humility and love. Homeless individuals often lack a caring touch that many people take for granted. Brand new socks and shoes symbolize a step toward new beginnings and new life, knowing the Mission is there for these individuals and families whenever they are ready.
