SALT LAKE CITY. UTAH 84111

February 14, 1974

To The Citizens of Salt Lake City:

D. J. FILLIS E. G. CEDERLOF J. L. SMITH

ASSISTANT CHIEFS

One of the factors of crime prevention has always been to reduce the opportunity for a criminal to commit his crime.

Interested in providing the people of this community with the best crime preventive methods in patroling r the police department has been able to acquire a military surplus helicopter at no appreciable cost to the taxpayers.

This helicopter has already proven itself tirne and again, since put into use. It's value, on an experimental basis, indicates th~ need for expanding the hel i copter patrol.

To many of our citizens, the sound of the IIchopperll overhead lends a feeling of security. There are some, however, who are not yet able to accept this new method of crime fighting.

It is to thpse that we wish to appea I for support. A~ a po I. i ce department, our only interest is-to serve and protect. We ask that you accept a small inconvenience of noise and lights on the basis that the results will be a safer neighborhood for you and your loved ones to !.ive in.

Sincerely,

J.£~~ Chief of Police
