He was born August 24, 1932, in Nechanitz, Texas, to Hugo and Leona Bush Ahlschlager. Monroe was as a self-employed petroleum bulk agent. He was a member of St. Paul Lu- theran Church in Columbus, VFW Post #6113 and a retired Columbus fireman. He also served in the U.S. Army. He married Isolde Hartmann on May 18, 1958. Burial followed at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus. Arrangements were under the di- rection of Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. Serving as pallbearers were Clar- ence and Gary Ahlschlager; Walter Glaeser; Bill Pavlicek; Jim Gam- mons; and Lawrence Ripper. Sympathy is extended to the fam- ily in their loss. The Governing Board of Colum- bus Community Hospital (CCH) is pleased to announce the addition of James Bryan Hill, M.D., Ph.D.. to the medical staff; Dr. Hill will be joining the Four Oaks Medical Clinic specializing in Pediatric Medicine—addressing pri- mary care, health maintenance, and preventive medicine forchildren of all ages. Dr. Hill received his Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson Uni- versity in Clemson, S.C., in 1987. He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in Char- leston, S.C., in 1995 with a Doctor of Medicine degree and a Doctor of Phi- losophy in the field of Cell Biology and Anatomy. He completed the Pediatric 1 n tern- ship and Residency Programs in Hou- ston at Baylor College of Medicine where he worked at Ben Taub and Texas Children's Hospitals in the Medical Center. "CCH continues to keep in touch with the needs of the communities in Colorado County," explained Ty Prause. Chairman of the Board of Trustees at CCH. "Dr. Bryan Hill is part of our goal to ensure the tradition that CCH has upheld in providing quality health care services to our community." Dr. Hill is licensed by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners and a member of the American Acad- emy of Pediatrics, American Associa- tion for the Advancement of Science, and American Medical Association. He recently completed the educa- tional program for Pediatrics and is eligible for Board Certification in Pediatric Medicine. "In a time where there are so many changes occurring in the administra- tion of medical services, it is exciting to be invited to join a community that is so progressive in its efforts to pro- vide a comprehensive health care de- livery system for its people" explained Dr. Hill. Dr. Hill has received many awards and honors including: Golden Key Honor Society, Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and Gamma Sigma Delta Agricultural Honor Society. He has also had several Endocri- nology articles and Pediatric research articles published in national journals. Dr. Hill's hobbies and interests include collecting western art, raising and showing registered Texas Long- horn cattle and serving as a certified judge for the International Texas Longhorn Association. He and his wife, Susan, will reside in Columbus. Winter driving tips include: •Wear your seat belt, and make

sure your children are buckled up.

•Remember that ice forms first on bridges, overpasses and shady areas. If you hit a patch of ice, stay off your brakes and decelerate slowly, holding the car steady as you go over the ice.

•Speed is the main problem with driving on ice. Adjust your speed to fit the weather conditions. Keep a safe distance from the car in front of you.

•If your car goes into a skid, take yourfoot off thegas pedal butdon'thit the brake. Steer gently in the direction you want the front of the car to go. As the car straightens out, you will be able to regain traction and control.

•Check you car battery before cold weather sets in. Battery power dips in cold weather. .

•Keep blankets, a first-aid kit, flares, jumper cables, tire chains, a flashlight, ice scraper and gloves in your car. Take a food supply of candy bars or dried fruit in case you become stranded.

•Keep the gasoline level as high as possible or prevent condensation in the tank.

•Check the automobile's motor oil, transmission fluid, ignition sys- tem, lights, heater, cooling system and wipers.
