SAFETY DETAILS

It is important to note that some vital statements throughout this manual and on the decals affixed to thevehicle are preceded by the words DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, or NOTE. For your protection, we rec-ommend that you take special notice of these safety procedures. Safety procedures are essential and mustbe followed.

If any of the operation or warning decals on the vehicle become damaged, have been removed, or cannot beeasily read, they should be replaced immediately to avoid possible personal injury, property damage, ordeath. Contact your CARRYALL distributor/dealer.

• THIS OWNER’S MANUAL SHOULD BE READ COMPLETELY BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVEOR SERVICE THE VEHICLE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS MANUALCOULD RESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.

The safety procedures listed must be followed whenever the vehicle is being operated, repaired, orserviced. Other specific warnings appear throughout this manual and on the vehicle.

• GASOLINE VAPORS - FLAMMABLE! EXPLOSIVE! DO NOT SMOKE. KEEP SPARKS ANDFLAMES AWAY FROM THE AREA OF THE VEHICLE. SERVICE ONLY IN WELL-VENTILATEDAREAS.

• BATTERY VAPORS - FLAMMABLE! EXPLOSIVE! DO NOT SMOKE. KEEP SPARKS ANDFLAMES AWAY FROM THE AREA OF THE VEHICLE. SERVICE ONLY IN WELL-VENTILATEDAREAS.

• DO NOT OPERATE GASOLINE VEHICLE IN ENCLOSED AREA WITHOUT PROPER VENTILA-TION. ENGINE PRODUCES CARBON MONOXIDE WHICH IS AN ODORLESS, DEADLY POISON.

• A UTILITY VEHICLE WILL NOT PROVIDE PROTECTION FROM LIGHTNING, FLYING OBJECTS,OR OTHER STORM RELATED HAZARDS. IF CAUGHT IN A STORM WHILE DRIVING A CAR-RYALL UTILITY VEHICLE, EXIT THE VEHICLE AND SEEK SHELTER IN ACCORDANCE WITHAPPLICABLE SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR YOUR LOCATION.

• THE ENGINE EXHAUST FROM THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS CHEMICALS KNOWN TO THESTATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER, BIRTH DEFECTS, OR OTHER REPRODUCTIVEHARM.

• ONLY TRAINED MECHANICS SHOULD REPAIR OR SERVICE THE VEHICLE. ANYONE DOINGEVEN SIMPLE REPAIRS OR SERVICE SHOULD FOLLOW THE PROCEDURES EXACTLY ASSTATED IN THIS MANUAL, AND OBEY ALL DANGERS, WARNINGS, AND CAUTIONS LISTED INTHIS MANUAL AS WELL AS THOSE AFFIXED TO THE VEHICLE.

• ANY MODIFICATION OR CHANGE TO THE VEHICLE WHICH AFFECTS THE STABILITY ORHANDLING OF THE VEHICLE, OR INCREASES MAXIMUM VEHICLE SPEED BEYOND FACTORYSPECIFICATIONS COULD RESULT IN SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

• FOLLOW ALL PROCEDURES LISTED IN THIS MANUAL FOR LOADING AND UNLOADING THEVEHICLE. DO NOT EXCEED VEHICLE RATED WEIGHT CAPACITY.

GASOLINE VEHICLES ONLY:

• TO AVOID UNINTENTIONALLY STARTING THE VEHICLE, BEFORE SERVICING ALWAYS:

- DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLES, NEGATIVE (-) FIRST.

- DISCONNECT THE SPARK PLUG WIRE FROM THE SPARK PLUG.

• FRAME GROUND - DO NOT ALLOW TOOLS OR OTHER METAL OBJECTS TO CONTACT FRAMEWHEN DISCONNECTING BATTERIES OR OTHER ELECTRICAL WIRING. NEVER ALLOW APOSITIVE WIRE TO TOUCH THE VEHICLE FRAME, ENGINE, OR OTHER METAL COMPONENT.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES ONLY:

• TO AVOID UNINTENTIONALLY STARTING THE VEHICLE, DISCONNECT THE BATTERIES ASSHOWN (SEE FIGURES 1 AND 2) AND DISCHARGE THE CONTROLLER AS FOLLOWS:

- TURN THE KEY SWITCH TO ON AND PLACE THE FORWARD AND REVERSE SWITCH IN THEREVERSE POSITION.

- SLOWLY DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND KEEP IT DEPRESSED UNTIL THEREVERSE WARNING BUZZER CAN NO LONGER BE HEARD. WHEN THE BUZZER STOPSSOUNDING, THE CONTROLLER IS DISCHARGED.

• CARRYALL I POWERDRIVE PLUS (MOTOR BRAKING) VEHICLES ONLY: PLACE THE TOW/RUN SWITCH IN THE TOW POSITION BEFORE DISCONNECTING BATTERIES.

GENERAL INFORMATION

There are three Carryall models, the Carryall I, Carryall II, and Carryall VI, that are available with either gas-oline or electric power. Carryall I electric with regenerative motor braking is also available. The Carryall IIPlus and Carryall Turf II are available with gasoline power only. Throughout this manual, important featuresunique to each model are highlighted. We urge the owner/operator to read and understand this manual, andto pay special attention to the features specific to his/her vehicle(s).

MODEL IDENTIFICATION

The serial number of your Carryall vehicle is printed on a bar code decal mounted on the frame directlyabove the accelerator pedal (Example: F9801-123456 for Electric or FG9801-123456 for Gasoline) (See Fig-ure 3). There is also a second serial number decal mounted on the front body frame behind the center dashpanel. The center dash panel must be removed to access it.

PRE-OPERATION CHECKLIST

Your Carryall vehicle(s) has been thoroughly inspected and adjusted at the factory, and also by your Carryalldealer. However, upon arrival of your new Carryall vehicle(s), you should become familiar with its controlsand operation, and carefully inspect each vehicle to be satisfied that it is in proper working condition beforeaccepting delivery.

Use the following checklist as a guide to inspect your new vehicle, and in conjunction with the Periodic Ser-vice Schedules (pages 40-44). Any problems should be corrected only by your Carryall dealer or a trainedtechnician.

• General: All the parts should be in place and properly installed. Be sure that all nuts, bolts, and screwsare tight. On all gasoline vehicles, check all hose clamps for tight fit as well as the starter belt for tight-ness.

• Warning Decals: Check to ensure that all warning and operation decals are in place (See Pages 4through 14).

• Tires: Check for proper tire pressure (See Tire Capacities, Page 47).

• ALWAYS HAVE THE VEHICLE SERIAL NUMBER AT HAND WHEN ORDERING PARTS OR MAK-ING INQUIRIES. SEE FIGURE 3.

Pre-Operation Checklist, Continued:

• Batteries (electric vehicles): Check electrolyte to ensure that it is at its proper level (See Figure 37,Page 50). Check battery posts. Wires should be tight and free of corrosion. Charge batteries fullybefore first use of vehicle.

• Multi-Step Potentiometer (Carryall I electric vehicles): Be sure potentiometer (wiper switch) cover isproperly secured prior to operating the vehicle.

• Engine (gasoline vehicle): Check for proper engine oil level (See Engine Oil, Page 48).

• Fuel (gasoline vehicle): Check fuel level (See Fueling Instructions, Page 48).

PERFORMANCE INSPECTIONAfter you have familiarized yourself with the vehicle’s controls and have read and understood the drivinginstructions, take the vehicle for a test drive. Use the following checklist as a guide to inspect your new vehi-cle. Any problems should be corrected only by your Carryall dealer or a trained technician.

All vehicles:• Brakes: Be sure the brakes function properly. When brake pedal is fully depressed under moderate

pressure, it should not go more than halfway to the floor, and vehicle should come to a smooth, straightstop; Carryall I vehicles should stop within 14 feet, and all other Carryall vehicles should stop within 16feet. If the brake pedal goes more than halfway to the floor, or if the vehicle swerves or fails to stopwithin the appropriate braking distance for your vehicle (see preceding sentence), have the brake sys-tem checked and adjusted as required. Brake adjustment must be maintained so that the brake pedalcannot be depressed to the floor under any circumstances.

• Park Brake: When latched, the park brake should lock the wheels and hold the vehicle stationary (onincline of 20% or less). It should release when either the accelerator or brake pedal is depressed.

• Reverse Buzzer: The reverse buzzer should sound as a warning when the vehicle is in reverse.

• Steering: The vehicle should be easy to steer and should not have any play in the steering wheel.

• Accelerator:

All Carryalls except the Carryall II Plus with key start and gasoline powered Carryall VI: With the key switch ON and the forward and reverse switch in the FORWARD position; as the accelerator pedal is depressed, the engine or motor should start and the vehicle should accelerate smoothly to full speed. When the pedal is released it should return to the original position and the engine or motor should stop. All Carryall vehicles should run at reduced speed in reverse.

Carryall II Plus with key start and gasoline powered Carryall VI: After starting engine with the key switch, the vehicle should accelerate smoothly to full speed as the accelerator pedal is depressed. When the accelerator pedal is released it should return to the original position and engine should idle.

• Governor (gasoline vehicles): Check maximum speed of the vehicle. All electric Carryalls and thegasoline powered Carryall I and Carryall Turf II should run at 12-15 MPH (19-24 KPH) on a level sur-face. The Carryall II and Carryall VI gasoline powered vehicles should run at 14-16 MPH (23-26 KPH)on a level surface. The Carryall II Plus should run at 17-18 MPH (27-29 KPH) on a level surface. AllCarryall vehicles should run at reduced speed in reverse.

• General: Listen for any unusual noises such as squeaks or rattles. Check the vehicle ride and perfor-mance. Have a CLUB CAR distributor/dealer or a trained mechanic investigate anything unusual.

• BE SURE THE PLASTIC HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE SEAT BOTTOM BEFORE OPERAT-ING THE VEHICLE. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN A FIRE, PROPERTY DAMAGE, PER-SONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.

Carryall I Electric Vehicles with PowerDrive Plus (Motor Braking):• Zero Speed Detect: With the vehicle parked on level ground, the Forward and Reverse Switch in any

position and the park brake disengaged, place the tow/run switch in the RUN position and attempt topush the vehicle. It should resist rolling (moving at no more than 1 or 2 mph). A warning buzzer shouldsound two seconds after the vehicle begins to move.

• “Pedal Up” Motor Braking: Accelerate the vehicle to full speed and then release the acceleratorpedal. Motor braking should quickly and smoothly slow the vehicle to approximately 9 mph. Motor brak-ing will disengage when vehicle slows to 9 mph.

• “Pedal Down” Motor Braking: Accelerate down an incline with the accelerator pedal depressed.When the vehicle reaches approximately 15 mph, motor braking should engage and moderate vehiclespeed between 15 and 16 mph, depending upon the grade of the hill.

CONTROLS - CARRYALL I, CARRYALL II, AND CARRYALL VI ELEC-TRIC VEHICLES; CARRYALL I, CARRYALL II, AND CARRYALL TURF II PEDAL START GASOLINE VEHICLES

KEY SWITCH The key switch is mounted on the dash to the right of the steering column (See Figure 4, Page 18). It hastwo positions, OFF and ON, which are clearly labeled.

• DO NOT OPERATE GASOLINE VEHICLE IN AN ENCLOSED AREA WITHOUT PROPER VENTI-LATION. GASOLINE ENGINES PRODUCE CARBON MONOXIDE GAS, WHICH IS AN ODOR-LESS, DEADLY POISION.

• BEFORE ASSIGNING THE VEHICLE TO A DRIVER, MAKE SURE THE DRIVER IS FAMILIARWITH ALL CONTROLS AND OPERATING PROCEDURES BEFORE ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TOBE DRIVEN.

• DO NOT TAMPER WITH THE GASOLINE VEHICLE GOVERNOR. DOING SO WILL VOID THEWARRANTY, AS WELL AS DAMAGE THE ENGINE AND OTHER COMPONENTS, AND COULDRESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH DUE TO UNSAFE SPEEDS.

• DO NOT MODIFY OR CHANGE THE VEHICLE IN ANY WAY WHICH MIGHT AFFECT ITS STABIL-ITY OR HANDLING, OR INCREASE MAXIMUM VEHICLE SPEED BEYOND FACTORY SPECIFI-CATIONS. PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH COULD RESULT.

• DO NOT SHIFT THE FORWARD/REVERSE SWITCH WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. TOAVOID INJURY TO AN UNSUSPECTING PASSENGER OR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, ALWAYSBRING THE VEHICLE TO A FULL STOP BEFORE SHIFTING THE SWITCH. A BUZZER WILLSOUND AS A WARNING WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE.

• RELEASE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THEN DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL FIRMLYUNTIL THE VEHICLE STOPS. TO AVOID UNINTENTIONALLY STARTING OR ROLLING THEVEHICLE, SET THE PARK BRAKE, TURN THE KEY SWITCH TO OFF, AND REMOVE THE KEYWHEN LEAVING THE VEHICLE.

• DO NOT EXCEED VEHICLE RATED WEIGHT CAPACITY.

• THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED WHEN THE KEY SWITCH IS IN THE OFF POSITION ONLY.

FORWARD/REVERSE CONTROLThe forward/reverse shift handle is located on the seat support panel, below and to the right of the driver’sright knee (See Figure 5). The lever has three distinct positions: F (forward), N (neutral), and R (reverse).Rotate the lever towards the driver, F (forward), to run the vehicle in the forward direction, or towards the pas-senger, R (reverse), to run the vehicle in reverse. When the lever is in the straight up, or N (neutral) position,the vehicle will not run. The engine in a gasoline powered Carryall I or Carryall II will stop if the vehicle isshifted to neutral while the engine is running. All 1998 Carryall vehicles run at reduced speed in reverse.

Carryall I Electric with PowerDrive Plus (Motor Braking):The forward/reverse shift switch is located in the same place as the forward/reverse shift lever on all otherCarryall models; on the seat support panel below and to the right of the driver’s right knee. The Forward (F)and Reverse (R) positions are clearly marked on the switch. Push down the F (forward) side of the switch torun the vehicle in the forward direction, or push down the R (reverse) side of the switch to run the vehicle inreverse. When neither side of the switch is depressed, the vehicle is in the NEUTRAL position and the vehi-cle will not run if the accelerator pedal is depressed (See Figure 6). See NOTE below.

ACCELERATOR PEDAL

The accelerator pedal is the pedal on the right, with the word GO molded into it (See Figure 7).

• THE REVERSE BUZZER WILL SOUND AS A WARNING WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE.

• THE OPERATION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DIFFERS FROM THAT OF AN AUTOMO-BILE. WHEN THE KEY SWITCH IS ON, AND THE SHIFTER HANDLE IS IN EITHER FORWARDOR REVERSE, DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL AUTOMATICALLY RELEASETHE PARK BRAKE AND START THE VEHICLE MOVING IN THE DIRECTION SELECTED (FOR-WARD OR REVERSE). AS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, SPEED WILLINCREASE UNTIL FULL SPEED IS REACHED. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED,POWER WILL BE CUT OFF AND THE ENGINE OR MOTOR WILL STOP RUNNING.

• CARRYALL I ELECTRIC WITH POWERDRIVE PLUS (MOTOR BRAKING) ONLY: SEE “PEDAL-UP”AND “PEDAL-DOWN” MOTOR BRAKING ON PAGE 17.

BRAKE PEDALThe brake pedal is the large pedal on the left with the word STOP molded into it (See Figure 7). To slow orstop the vehicle, depress the brake pedal with your right foot (See Figure 8).

PARK BRAKE PEDALThe park brake pedal is the small raised portion in the upper left corner of the brake pedal. It has the wordPARK molded into it and the words PARK BRAKE marked on top of it (See Figure 7). To set the park brake,depress the brake pedal firmly and tilt the park brake portion of the pedal forward with your foot (Figure 9).

GASOLINE VEHICLES ONLY:

Neutral Lock-outThe gasoline vehicle has a neutral lock-out circuit that prevents the driver from starting the vehicle in NEU-TRAL. If the vehicle is started in forward or reverse and then shifted to neutral, the engine will stop running.

• THE PARK BRAKE WILL RELEASE AUTOMATICALLY WHEN EITHER THE ACCELERATOR ORBRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THE PARK BRAKE HAS MULTIPLE LOCKING POSITIONS ANDSHOULD BE FIRMLY PRESSED AND LOCKED TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING.

Neutral Lock-out, Continued:

For the convenience of the trained mechanic, there is a neutral lock-out cam (yellow knob) located on theback of the forward/reverse switch, inside the engine compartment. If the neutral lock-out cam is pulled outapproximately 3/8 inch (10 millimeters) and then rotated one-half turn until it snaps into place, the cam will bein the SERVICE position (See Figure 10). This will allow the mechanic to run the engine in NEUTRAL forcertain maintenance procedures. With the cam in this position, the vehicle will not operate if the forward/reverse handle is placed in either the forward or reverse position. To put the cam back into the OPERATEposition, pull the cam out approximately 3/8 inch (10 millimeters) and rotate it one-half turn until it snaps intoplace (See Figure 11). See WARNING and NOTE below.

ChokeThe choke is located on the seat support panel below and to the left of the driver’s left knee. If the vehicle ishard to start in cool or cold temperatures, activate the choke:

• Carryall I: Simply push in the choke cover with your left hand to activate it. Hold it during start up andrelease the choke cover after the engine starts and runs smoothly (See Figure 12).

• Carryall II and Carryall Turf II: Simply pull out the choke handle to activate it. Push the handle back inwhen the engine begins to run smoothly (See Figure 13).

Oil LightThe gasoline powered Carryall is equipped with a low oil warning light, located on the dash panel just abovethe steering column (See Figure 14). If the oil warning light comes on, oil should be checked and added tothe engine as necessary before continuing to use the vehicle. The vehicle should never be driven when theoil warning light remains on. If the oil warning light goes on and off, the vehicle may be driven, but oil should

• WITH THE CAM IN THE SERVICE POSITION AND THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE VEHICLE MAYMOVE SUDDENLY IF THE FORWARD/REVERSE LEVER IS SHIFTED OR ACCIDENTALLYBUMPED. TO PREVENT THIS, CHOCK THE FRONT AND REAR WHEELS AND ALWAYS FIRMLYSET THE PARK BRAKE BEFORE SERVICING OR LEAVING THE VEHICLE.

be added at the first opportunity. If the oil level is correct and the light stays on, have a trained mechaniccheck the vehicle.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES ONLY:

Battery Warning LightPowerDrive System 48 and PowerDrive Plus (motor braking) vehicles, including all electric Carryall models,feature a dash mounted warning light (above steering column) that, when the vehicle is in operation, indi-cates low battery voltage, or, when the vehicle is being charged, indicates a charging problem. The batterywarning light is controlled by the PowerDrive on-board computer.

When the vehicle is in operation, the warning light will come on and remain illuminated if:

• Batteries voltage drops below 48 when there is no load on the batteries (the vehicle is stopped andthere are no accessories on).

• Batteries have discharged to less than 25% of their capacity.

• FAILURE TO ADD OIL IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE OIL WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON MAYRESULT IN PERMANENT ENGINE DAMAGE.

Battery Warning Light, Continued:

If the warning light comes on when the vehicle is operating, there will be enough power remaining to drive thevehicle for approximately 30 minutes. However, the vehicle should be charged at the first opportunity. If thewarning light comes on and the vehicle is unable to operate for 30 minutes, have your Club Car distributor/dealer check the vehicle for a possible battery or electrical system problem.

When the batteries receive an incomplete charge because 1) the DC power cord is disconnected, 2) ACpower to the charger is interrupted, 3) automatic charger shut-off occurs after 16 hours of operation, or 4)the charger malfunctions, the warning light will indicate as follows:

• The warning light will not come on if the charge is 90% or more complete. The on-board computer willretain in memory the amount of charge needed to fully replenish the batteries and will complete thecharge during the next charge cycle.

• When the charger is unplugged, the warning light will come on and remain illuminated for 10 seconds ifthe charge is less than 90% complete but the car has enough power for approximately 30 minutes ofoperation. This will alert the operator that the vehicle may be used, but that it must be charged to com-pletion as soon as possible.

• The warning light will repeatedly illuminate for 10 seconds, with 4 second intervals, if the charger timesout at 16 hours (see PowerDrive Charger Owner’s Manual) and the batteries are not sufficientlycharged. This indicates an abnormal charge cycle. The charger and batteries should be checked byyour Club Car distributor/dealer.

• The warning light will repeatedly illuminate for 10 seconds, with 4 second intervals, during a chargecycle (DC plug is still connected) if AC power to the charger is interrupted. The light will go out when ACpower is restored.

Tow/Run Switch

The Carryall I vehicle with PowerDrive Plus (with motor braking) is equipped with a TOW/RUN switch, locatedunder the seat just above the forward and reverse switch (Figure 21). The tow/run switch must be in the RUNposition in order to operate the vehicle. When the switch is in the TOW position, power to the vehicle electri-cal components is turned off and the vehicle will not operate.

The TOW/RUN switch should be placed in the TOW position under the following conditions:

• Before Towing the Vehicle - Place the tow/run switch in the TOW position to disable all motor brakingfunctions, thus preventing possible damage that could occur to the vehicle or electrical components ifthe vehicle is towed while the Zero-Speed Detect motor braking function is operating.

• TO AVOID POSSIBLE BATTERY EXPLOSION, THE TOW/RUN SWITCH MUST BE IN THE TOWPOSITION BEFORE DISCONNECTING OR CONNECTIING BATTERY WIRES.

• WHEN THE TOW/RUN SWITCH IS IN THE TOW POSITION, ALL MOTOR BRAKING FUNCTIONS,INCLUDING ZERO-SPEED DECTECT, ARE DISABLED.

• AFTER PLACING THE SWITCH IN TOW POSITION, ALLOW 10 SECONDS BEFORE SWITCHINGBACK TO RUN.

• AFTER PLACING THE SWITCH IN RUN POSITION, ALLOW 10 SECONDS BEFORE OPERATINGTHE VEHICLE.

• Before Disconnecting or Attaching Battery Wires - Place the tow/run switch in the TOW position toturn off power to the vehicle electrical system, thus preventing severe arcing and possible batteryexplosion as the battery wires are disconnected.

• For Long Term Storage - Place the tow/run switch in the TOW position to turn off power to the vehicleelectrical system, thus preventing vehicle electrical components from discharging the batteries.

No one should drive the vehicle without first being instructed in the proper operation and use of the vehicle’scontrols. An experienced operator should accompany each first-time driver on a test drive before allowinghim(her) to operate the vehicle alone. Only licensed drivers should be allowed to drive this vehicle.

To ensure safe operation of the vehicle, follow exactly and in order, all of the following procedures. Read andunderstand all instructions prior to driving the vehicle.

• BEFORE ASSIGNING THE VEHICLE TO A DRIVER, MAKE SURE THE DRIVER IS FAMILIARWITH ALL CONTROLS AND OPERATING PROCEDURES BEFORE ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TOBE DRIVEN.

• NO MORE THAN TWO PEOPLE SHOULD BE ON THE VEHICLE AT ONE TIME.

• DO NOT ALLOW PASSENGERS IN THE CARGO BED.

• THE VEHICLE IS NOT SPECIALLY EQUIPPED FOR HANDICAPPED PERSONS. BE SURE ALLPASSENGERS ARE CAPABLE OF SECURING THEMSELVES IN A MOVING CARRYALL VEHI-CLE BEFORE ALLOWING THEM TO RIDE IN ONE.

• FOR NIGHT USE, THE VEHICLE MUST BE EQUIPPED WITH HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS, ANDREFLECTORS.

• STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE SHIFTING THE FORWARD AND REVERSE LEVER. FAILURE TODO SO MAY RESULT IN INJURY TO INATTENTIVE PASSENGERS AND (OR) DAMAGE TO THEVEHICLE. A BUZZER WILL SOUND AS A WARNING WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE.

STARTING THE VEHICLE1. Be sure load, if any, is secure.

2. Enter the vehicle.

3. Study and understand controls.

4. Be sure everyone is seated and holding onto seat handles or handrails. Driver should have both handson the steering wheel.

6. Make sure wheels are turned in desired direction.

7. Turn key to the ON position and be sure nothing is in your path.

8. Select direction by placing shift lever in desired position (F = forward or R = reverse).

9. Slowly depress accelerator pedal. The park brake will release automatically and the vehicle will start tomove. As the accelerator pedal is depressed, speed will increase until full speed is reached.

STOPPING THE VEHICLE

To stop the vehicle, release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal with your right foot until thevehicle comes to a complete stop.

PARKING AND LEAVING THE VEHICLE1. After stopping the vehicle, firmly depress the park brake pedal until it locks. This will prevent the vehicle

from rolling.

2. Turn the key switch to OFF and place the shift lever in the NEUTRAL position. Remove the key whenthe vehicle is not in use.

• Carryall I Electric Vehicles with PowerDrive Plus (Motor Braking) Only: When the vehicle tow/runswitch is in the RUN position, (with the forward and reverse switch or key switch in any position), the“zero speed detect” function will prevent the vehicle from rolling at more than 1 or 2 mph unless theaccelerator is depressed. This prevents the possibility of a parked vehicle (with the park brake disen-gaged) rolling away too fast to be overtaken on foot. Also, an alarm will sound a few seconds after thevehicle has begun to move. See “Zero Speed Detect”, Page 17.

CONTROLS - CARRYALL II PLUS KEY START AND CARRYALL VI GAS-OLINE VEHICLES

• DRIVING THROUGH WATER MAY AFFECT THE BRAKES. AFTER DRIVING THROUGH WATER,CHECK EFFECTIVENESS OF THE BRAKES BY GENTLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. IFTHE VEHICLE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AT THE NORMAL RATE, CONTINUE TO DEPRESS THEBRAKE PEDAL UNTIL THE BRAKES DRY OUT AND NORMAL PERFORMANCE RETURNS.

• WHEN STOPPED ON A HILL, USE THE BRAKE PEDAL TO HOLD YOUR POSITION. DO NOTUSE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.

• DO NOT OPERATE GASOLINE VEHICLE IN AN ENCLOSED AREA WITHOUT PROPER VENTI-LATION. GASOLINE ENGINES PRODUCE CARBON MONOXIDE GAS, WHICH IS AN ODOR-LESS, DEADLY POISION.

• BEFORE ASSIGNING THE VEHICLE TO A DRIVER, MAKE SURE THE DRIVER IS FAMILIARWITH ALL CONTROLS AND OPERATING PROCEDURES BEFORE ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TOBE DRIVEN.

Controls - Carryall II Plus Key Start and Carryall VI Gasoline Vehicles, Continued:

KEY SWITCH The key switch is mounted on the dash to the right of the steering column (See Figure 16). It has threepositions, OFF, ON, and START, which are clearly labeled.

To start the vehicle, turn the key past the ON position to the START position and hold until the engine is run-ning smoothly. Release the key and it will return to the ON position and the engine should idle.

FORWARD/REVERSE CONTROLThe forward/reverse shift lever is located on the seat support panel, below and to the right of the driver’s rightknee (See Figure 17). The lever has three distinct positions: F (forward), N (neutral), and R (reverse). Rotatethe lever towards the driver, F (forward), to run the vehicle in the forward direction, or towards the passenger,R (reverse), to run the vehicle in reverse. When the lever is in the straight up, or N (neutral) position, the vehi-cle will idle.

ACCELERATOR PEDALThe accelerator pedal is the pedal on the right, with the word GO molded into it (See Figure 18). See NOTEbelow.

• DO NOT SHIFT THE FORWARD/REVERSE SWITCH WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. TOAVOID INJURY TO INATTENTIVE PASSENGERS AND (OR) DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE,ALWAYS BRING THE VEHICLE TO A FULL STOP BEFORE SHIFTING THE LEVER. A BUZZERWILL SOUND AS A WARNING WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE.

• RELEASE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THEN DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL FIRMLYWITH RIGHT FOOT UNTIL THE VEHICLE STOPS. TO AVOID UNINTENTIONAL STARTING ORROLLING OF THE VEHICLE, SET THE PARK BRAKE, TURN THE KEY SWITCH TO OFF, ANDREMOVE THE KEY WHEN LEAVING THE VEHICLE.

• THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED WHEN THE KEY SWITCH IS IN THE OFF POSITION ONLY.

• THE ENGINE WILL STOP RUNNING IF THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED WHILE THE FOR-WARD/REVERSE LEVER IS IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION.

• THE REVERSE BUZZER WILL SOUND AS A WARNING WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE.

• THE OPERATION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DIFFERS FROM THAT OF AN AUTOMO-BILE. WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, AND THE SHIFT LEVER IS IN EITHER FORWARD ORREVERSE, DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL AUTOMATICALLY RELEASE THEPARK BRAKE AND START THE VEHICLE MOVING IN THE SELECTED DIRECTION (FORWARDOR REVERSE). AS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, SPEED WILL INCREASEUNTIL FULL SPEED IS REACHED. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS RELEASED, IT WILLRETURN TO THE ORIGINAL POSITION AND THE ENGINE WILL DROP BACK TO IDLE.

BRAKE PEDALThe brake pedal is the large pedal on the left with the word STOP molded into it (See Figure 18). To slow orstop the vehicle, depress the brake pedal with your right foot (See Figure 19).

PARK BRAKE PEDALThe park brake pedal is the small raised portion in the upper left corner of the brake pedal. It has the wordPARK molded into it and the words PARK BRAKE marked on top of it (See Figure 18). To set park brake,depress the brake pedal firmly and tilt the park brake portion of the pedal forward with your foot (Figure 20,Page 28). The park brake will release when either the brake pedal or accelerator pedal is depressed.

NEUTRAL LOCK-OUTFor the convenience of the trained mechanic, there is a neutral lock-out cam (yellow knob) located on theback of the forward/reverse switch inside the engine compartment. If the neutral lock-out cam is pulled outapproximately 3/8 inch (10 millimeters) and then rotated one-half turn until it snaps into place, the cam will be

• THE PARK BRAKE WILL RELEASE AUTOMATICALLY WHEN EITHER THE ACCELERATOR ORBRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THE PARK BRAKE HAS MULTIPLE LOCKING POSITIONS ANDSHOULD BE FIRMLY PRESSED AND LOCKED TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING.

in the SERVICE position (See Figure 21). This will allow the mechanic to run the engine for certain mainte-nance procedures. With the cam in this position, the vehicle will not operate if the forward/reverse lever isplaced in either the forward or reverse position. To put the cam back into the OPERATE position, pull thecam out approximately 3/8 inch (10 millimeters) and rotate it one-half turn until it snaps into place (See Fig-ure 22). See WARNING and NOTE below.

ChokeThe choke is located on the seat support panel below and to the left of the driver’s left knee (See Figure 23).If the vehicle is hard to start in cool or cold temperatures, simply pull out the choke handle to activate thechoke. Push the handle back in when the engine begins to run smoothly.

Oil LightThe gasoline powered Carryall is equipped with a low oil warning light, located on the dash panel just abovethe steering column (See Figure 24). If the oil warning light comes on, oil should be checked and added tothe engine as necessary before continuing to use the vehicle. The vehicle should never be driven when theoil warning light remains on. If the oil warning light goes on and off, the vehicle may be driven but oil shouldbe added at the first opportunity. If the oil level is correct and the light stays on, have a trained mechanic

check the vehicle.

STARTING THE VEHICLE1. Be sure load, if any, is secure.

2. Enter the vehicle.

3. Study and understand controls.

4. Be sure everyone is seated and holding onto seat handles or handrails. Driver should have both handson the steering wheel.

5. Read safety warnings located above pedals.

6. Make sure the shifter is in the NEUTRAL position.

7. Make sure wheels are turned in desired direction.

8. Make sure nothing is in your path.

9. Depress and hold the brake pedal.

10. Turn the key all the way to the START position and release after the engine is started. The engine willidle.

11. While keeping the brake engaged, select direction of travel by placing shift lever in desired position (F =forward or R = reverse).

12. Release the brake pedal completely, and then slowly depress the accelerator pedal. As the acceleratorpedal is depressed, speed will increase until full speed is reached.

STOPPING THE VEHICLE

To stop the vehicle, release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal with your right foot until thevehicle comes to a complete stop.

PARKING AND LEAVING THE VEHICLE1. After stopping the vehicle, firmly depress the park brake pedal until it locks. This will prevent the vehicle

from rolling.

2. Turn the key switch to OFF and place the shift lever in the NEUTRAL position. Remove the key whenthe vehicle is not in use.

• IF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS DEPRESSED WHILE THE SHIFTER IS IN NEUTRAL, OR IFYOU TRY TO SHIFT FROM FORWARD TO REVERSE WHILE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ISDEPRESSED, THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF. TO KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE ACCEL-ERATOR PEDAL MUST BE RELEASED COMPLETELY BEFORE SHIFTING THE VEHICLE TONEUTRAL OR FROM FORWARD TO REVERSE.

• DRIVING THROUGH WATER MAY AFFECT THE BRAKES. AFTER DRIVING THROUGH WATER,CHECK EFFECTIVENESS OF THE BRAKES BY GENTLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. IFTHE VEHICLE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AT THE NORMAL RATE, CONTINUE TO DEPRESS THEBRAKE PEDAL UNTIL THE BRAKES DRY OUT AND NORMAL PERFORMANCE RETURNS.

• WHEN STOPPED ON A HILL, USE THE BRAKE PEDAL TO HOLD YOUR POSITION. DO NOTUSE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.

BED LATCH

The Carryall I, Carryall II, and Carryall II Plus are equipped with a bed latch on the driver’s side of the vehicleas standard equipment (See Figure 25). To lift the bed, pull the latch handle toward the rear of the vehicleand lift the bed (See Figure 26).

To close the bed, lower it gently until the bed latch engages. DO NOT drop the bed.

LOADING AND UNLOADING

Center and secure cargo as far forward as possible in the cargo bed. See WARNINGS below.

• KEEP HANDS AND FINGERS CLEAR OF PINCH POINTS BETWEEN THE BED AND THE SEATBACK SUPPORT.

• THE CARRYALL II AND CARRYALL II PLUS ARE EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATICALLYENGAGING PROP ROD, UNLESS EQUIPPED WITH THE HYDRAULIC OR ELECTRIC BED LIFTOPTION (FIGURE 27).

• FIRMLY ENGAGE THE PARK BRAKE BEFORE LOADING THE VEHICLE.

TOWING A TRAILER

Because towing a trailer can have adverse effects on vehicle handling, be especially cautious when towing atrailer with a Carryall vehicle. Total vehicle capacity, including the tow vehicle load rating and the gross weightof the trailer should not exceed the weight specified in the WARNING below. The tongue weight should notexceed 150 lbs (68 kg). Parking the vehicle with a trailer on a hill should be avoided. If you must park on ahill, apply the brakes and have someone chock the tires of the trailer. Brakes should be released to allow thechocks to absorb the load of the trailer. After the tires have been chocked, engage the park brake.

• NEVER TOW A CARRYALL VEHICLE BEHIND A PASSENGER VEHICLE OR TRUCK ON A PUB-LIC ROAD UNLESS IT IS ON AN APPROVED TRAILER.

• THE VEHICLE TO BE TOWED SHOULD BE TIED SECURELY TO THE TRAILER, WITH THE FOR-WARD AND REVERSE SWITCH IN NEUTRAL, THE KEY SWITCH OFF, AND THE PARK BRAKEFIRMLY DEPRESSED AND LOCKED.

• WHEN TOWING ON A TRAILER, NORMAL ROAD SPEED OF THE TOW VEHICLE SHOULD BEREDUCED.

• BECAUSE OF THE ADDED LENGTH OF THE TRAILER, USE CAUTION WHEN MAKING TURNS.

STORAGE - GASOLINE VEHICLE

To prepare your vehicle for extended off season storage:

1. Unload the vehicle completely, so that only minimum vehicle weight will be placed on the tires.

2. Store vehicle in a cool place. This will prevent self-discharge of the battery. If the battery appears to beweak, have it charged using an automotive-type 12-volt battery charger rated 10 amps or less.

3. Drain carburetor and seal the fuel tank.

3.1. Place the Forward and Reverse Lever in the NEUTRAL position and the neutral lock-out cam inthe SERVICE position. Turn the fuel shut-off valve to the OFF position and run the engine untilfuel remaining in the carburetor and fuel lines is used up and the engine stalls. Return the neutrallock-out cam to OPERATE position.

3.2. Loosen (do not remove) the carburetor drain screw and drain fuel remaining in bowl into a smallcontainer, then pour the fuel from the container into vehicle fuel tank.

3.3. Disconnect fuel vent line from fuel tank vent nipple.

3.4. Plug the fuel tank vent nipple so that it is air tight. We recommend using a slip-on vinyl cap.

4. To protect the engine, remove the spark plug and pour 1/2 ounce of SAE 10 weight oil into the enginethrough the spark plug hole. Rotate the engine crank shaft several times and then re-install the sparkplug.

5. Inflate tires to rated capacities (See Tire Capacities, Page 47).

• GASOLINE - FLAMMABLE! EXPLOSIVE! DO NOT SMOKE. KEEP SPARKS AND FLAMESAWAY FROM THE AREA OF THE VEHICLE.

• NEVER ATTEMPT TO DRAIN GASOLINE WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT OR WHILE IT IS RUN-NING. BE SURE TO CLEAN UP ANY SPILLED GASOLINE BEFORE OPERATING THE VEHICLE.

• STORE GASOLINE IN AN APPROVED GASOLINE CONTAINER ONLY. STORE IN A WELL-VEN-TILATED AREA AWAY FROM SPARKS, OPEN FLAMES, HEATERS, OR HEAT SOURCES.

• DO NOT SERVICE, REPAIR, OR OPERATE IN AN ENCLOSED AREA WITHOUT PROPER VEN-TILATION. THE ENGINE PRODUCES CARBON MONOXIDE WHICH IS AN ODORLESS, DEADLYPOISON.

• KEEP GASOLINE OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.

• DO NOT SIPHON GASOLINE FROM THE VEHICLE.

• TURN THE KEY SWITCH OFF, REMOVE THE KEY, AND LEAVE THE FORWARD AND REVERSESWITCH IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION DURING STORAGE. THIS IS TO PREVENT UNINTEN-TIONALLY STARTING THE VEHICLE.

• DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CHARGE A BATTERY IF IT IS FROZEN OR IF THE CASE IS BULGED.DISCARD THE BATTERY. FROZEN BATTERIES CAN EXPLODE.

1.2. Place the Forward and Reverse Lever in the NEUTRAL position and the neutral lock-out cam inthe SERVICE position. Crank the engine until fuel is pumped into the carburetor and fuel linesand the engine starts. Turn the engine off and return the neutral lock-out cam to the OPERATEposition.

2. Readjust tire pressure (See Tire Capacities, Page 47).

3. Perform the Pre-Operation Checklist (See pages 15 and 16).

STORAGE - ELECTRIC VEHICLE

1. Unload the vehicle completely, so that only minimum vehicle weight will be on the tires.

2. Fully charge batteries (See Batteries - Electric Vehicle, Page 50).

• DUE TO THE OIL ADDED TO THE ENGINE IN PREPARATION FOR STORAGE, THE ENGINEMAY SMOKE EXCESSIVELY FOR A SHORT WHILE WHEN RUNNING IT FOR THE FIRST TIMEAFTER STORAGE.

• TURN THE KEY SWITCH OFF, REMOVE THE KEY, AND LEAVE THE FORWARD AND REVERSESWITCH IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION DURING STORAGE. THIS IS TO PREVENT UNINTEN-TIONALLY STARTING THE VEHICLE.

• DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CHARGE FROZEN BATTERIES OR BATTERIES WITH BULGED CASES.DISCARD THE BATTERY. FROZEN BATTERIES CAN EXPLODE.

• BATTERIES IN LOW STATE OF CHARGE WILL FREEZE AT LOW TEMPERATURES.

• WHEN WASHING THE VEHICLE, DO NOT DIRECT WATER STREAM AT THE SPEED SWITCH,FORWARD AND REVERSE SWITCH, OR OTHER ELECTRONIC COMPONENT.

• IF BATTERY WIRE TERMINALS ARE DAMAGED OR CORRODED, THEY SHOULD BEREPLACED OR CLEANED AS NECESSARY. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY CAUSE THEM TO OVER-HEAT DURING OPERATION.

• CARRYALL I ELECTRIC VEHICLES WITH POWERDRIVE PLUS (MOTOR BRAKING) ONLY:PLACE THE TOW/RUN SWITCH IN THE TOW POSITION.

3. Wash off any corrosion around the terminals with a solution of baking soda and water, then rinse thebaking soda solution from the batteries. Do not allow this solution to enter the batteries. Let the termi-nals dry and coat them with CLUB CAR battery terminal spray, Part No. 1014305.

4. Store in a cool, dry place. This will prevent self-discharge of the batteries.

5. Inflate tires to rated capacities (See Tire Capacities, Page 47).

6. Grease front suspension and do all quarterly periodic lubrication (See Periodic Lubrication Sched-ule, Page 46).

7. Thoroughly clean front body, rear body, seats, cargo bed, battery compartment, and underside of thevehicle.

8. Do not latch the park brake. Block tires to prevent the vehicle from rolling.

9. Leave PowerDrive System 48 vehicles with PowerDrive chargers plugged in during storage. The Pow-erDrive storage charge feature will automatically charge the batteries as needed (See Batteries -Electric Vehicle, Page 50).

TO RETURN THE STORED VEHICLE TO SERVICE:1. Fully charge batteries (See Batteries - Electric Vehicle, Page 50).

2. Readjust tire pressure to rated capacities (See Tire Capacities, Page 47).

3. Perform the Pre-Operation Checklist (See pages 15 and 16).

MAINTENANCE

GENERAL INFORMATION: To ensure trouble-free vehicle performance, it is very important to follow an established preventive mainte-nance program (regularly scheduled service, even though the vehicle is functional). Regular and consistentvehicle maintenance can prevent vehicle down-time and expensive repairs that result from neglect. Any vehi-cle not functioning correctly should be removed from use until it is properly repaired. This will prevent furtherdamage to the vehicle and avoid the possibility of injury due to unsafe conditions.

Contact your local Club Car distributor/dealer to perform all repairs and semi-annual and annual periodic ser-vice.

ENGINE OIL - GASOLINE VEHICLE

Even though the oil warning light on the dash should warn you if your oil is getting low, engine oil level shouldbe checked monthly (See Figure 34).

FUELING INSTRUCTIONS - GASOLINE VEHICLE

• TO CHECK ENGINE OIL, THE ENGINE MUST BE IN LEVEL POSITION. REMOVE THE OIL LEVELDIPSTICK FROM THE OIL FILLER TUBE AND WIPE OIL FROM IT WITH A CLEAN DRY CLOTHOR PAPER TOWEL. CHECK OIL BY INSERTING THE DIPSTICK FULLY INTO THE OIL FILLERTUBE AND IMMEDIATELY REMOVING IT AGAIN. IF THE OIL LEVEL IS AT OR BELOW THE ADDMARK ON THE DIPSTICK GAUGE, ADD OIL UNTIL THE LEVEL IS BETWEEN ADD AND FULL(SAFE LEVEL). DO NOT OVERFILL! REINSERT DIPSTICK INTO THE OIL FILLER TUBE.

For all gasoline Carryall vehicles except Carryall VI:

1. Lift and remove seat bottom.

2. The fuel tank is located on passenger side of vehicle. Remove fuel cap and fill the fuel tank with freshunleaded gasoline only. See CAUTION and NOTE below.

3. Replace fuel cap on tank, being sure cap is tightened securely.

4. Replace seat bottom.

For gasoline Carryall VI vehicles:

1. Unlatch access door in the cargo bed of the vehicle and open completely before refueling.

2. The fuel tank is located on the passenger side of the vehicle. Remove the fuel tank cap and fill the tankwith fresh unleaded gasoline only. See CAUTION and NOTE above.

3. Secure the fuel tank cap on the tank and make sure that it is tight.

4. Close the access door and secure the latches.

Battery - Gasoline Vehicle, Continued:

The battery in a Carryall gasoline vehicle is a 12 volt, low maintenance battery that requires infrequent water-ing (Figure 36).

Any corrosion around the positive (+) or negative (-) terminals should be washed off with a solution of bakingsoda and water (1 cup per gallon of water), and then the baking soda solution rinsed off the battery. Do notallow the solution to get into the battery. Be sure terminals are tight. Let the terminals dry and then spraythem with CLUB CAR battery terminal spray (Club Car Part No.1014305). See CAUTION below.

Be sure battery hold-down bracket is properly tightened. Torque to 10-13 ft.Ibs. (13.6/17.6 N-m). A loosehold-down bracket may allow the battery to become damaged from vibration or jarring.

If battery appears weak, have it charged by a trained mechanic. The battery should never be left dischargedany longer than absolutely necessary (do not leave discharged overnight).

The batteries in PowerDrive System 48 Electric Vehicles are 8 volt, deep cycle batteries, specially built forelectric vehicle application. Automotive batteries should never be used.

New batteries will not deliver their full capabilities until they have been discharged and recharged 20 to 50times. To obtain the maximum service life from new batteries, restrict vehicle with new batteries to one hourof operation between charges for the first two months the vehicle is in service. Batteries should be fullycharged before first use of new vehicle, before first use of a vehicle after storage, and before releasing vehi-cle for use each day.

BATTERY CARETo keep batteries in good working condition, follow this maintenance program on a regular basis:

1. Batteries should be kept clean and free of corrosion. Wash tops and terminals of batteries with a solu-tion of baking soda and water (1 cup baking soda per gallon of water) once per week. Rinse solution offbatteries (NOTE: Do not allow this solution to enter the battery). Be sure terminals are tight. Let the ter-minals dry and then spray them with CLUB CAR battery protector spray (Club Car Part No. 1014305).

2. The water level in the batteries should be checked weekly (See Figure 37 for proper level). Addwater only after charging unless the water level is below the top of the plates. In this case, add justenough water to cover the plates, charge and then check the level again. Never charge batteries ifplates are exposed above water level. For best battery life, add only distilled water.

3. The hold-down straps should be tight enough so that the batteries do not move while the vehicle is inmotion, but not so tight as to crack or buckle the battery case. Torque hold-down retaining nuts to 35-45 in.lbs. (4.0/5.1 N-m). The terminal connections should be clean and tight, and any worn insulationor frayed wires should be replaced. Torque battery terminals to 125-145 in.lbs. (14.1/16.4 N-m). SeeCAUTION at top of page 52.

• DO NOT USE A CHARGER IF:

- THE PLUG IS TOO LOOSE OR DOES NOT MAKE A GOOD CONNECTION.

- THE PLUG AND RECEPTACLE FEEL HOTTER THAN NORMAL DURING CHARGE.

- THE PLUG PINS OR CONTACTS ARE BENT OR CORRODED.

- THE PLUG, RECEPTACLE OR CORDS ARE CUT, WORN, HAVE ANY EXPOSED WIRES, ORARE DAMAGED IN ANY WAY.

USING A CHARGER WITH ANY OF THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS COULD RESULT IN FIRE, PROP-ERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.

• SHORTLY AFTER CHARGING HAS BEGUN, THE POWERDRIVE CHARGER WILL SHUT OFF INORDER TO RUN A SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROGRAM (AMMETER WILL DROP TO 0). CHARGINGWILL RESUME IN A FEW MOMENTS (AMMETER WILL RETURN TO CURRENT STATE OFCHARGE).

Battery Charger - Electric Vehicle, Continued:

Each Carryall electric vehicle is supplied with either a fully automatic, external, stationary battery charger(Carryall I and Carryall II) or fully automatic on-board charger (Carryall VI) as standard equipment. The ACcord from the charger is to be connected to a source capable of supplying 10 amperes minimum per charger.

The battery charger must be grounded to reduce the risk of electrical shock. The charger is equipped withan AC electric cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding type plug and is for use on anominal 115 Volt 60 Hertz circuit, unless otherwise noted on the charger. The plug must be grounded to anappropriate dedicated receptacle that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with the NationalElectrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, and all local codes and ordinances.

The use of an extension cord with the charger should be avoided. If an extension cord must be used, a threeconductor No. 12 AWG heavy duty cord with a ground conductor in good electrical condition must be used.Keep it as short as possible (no more than twelve feet). Locate all cords so that they will not be stepped on,tripped over, or otherwise subject to damage or stress.

The charging area must be well-ventilated. To prevent a build-up of explosive gas, the hydrogen level in theair must never exceed 2%. The total volume of air in an enclosed charging area must be changed at least fivetimes per hour. Consult a local HVAC engineer.

If a Carryall I or Carryall II vehicle’s on-board charger should become non-functional, an external stationarycharger can be plugged into the vehicle charger receptacle to charge the batteries. When an external sta-tionary charger is used to charge the batteries, the on-board charger is by-passed altogether. See WARN-INGS on pages 50 and 51. Because the Carryall VI vehicle does not have a DC receptacle, the on-boardcharger must be repaired in order to charge the batteries.

TO CHARGE BATTERIES

• Carryall I and Carryall II (External stationary charger):Insert charger AC plug into a dedicated AC receptacle that is properly grounded and wired in accor-dance with the National Electric Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, and all local codes and ordinances. Then insertcharger DC plug into the vehicle receptacle. Charger will turn on two to ten seconds later (Figure 38).

• Carryall VI (On-board charger):Insert the on-board charger AC plug into a dedicated AC receptacle that is properly grounded andwired in accordance with the National Electric Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, and all local codes and ordi-nances. The charger will turn on two to ten seconds later.

The PowerDrive Charger interacts with an on-board computer on the PowerDrive System 48 vehicle. Thecomputer records the amount of energy consumed during vehicle use. While the charger is plugged in, thevehicle’s control circuit is locked out, preventing operation of the vehicle, as well as the possibility of conse-quent damage to the charger and the vehicle.

Once the lock-out is actuated, the charger turns on. The on-board computer then records the amount ofenergy being returned to the batteries. When the optimum amount of energy needed to replenish the batter-ies is returned, the charger will shut off. The control circuit lock-out remains activated until the charger plug isdisconnected from the vehicle.

Because of these unique features, only PowerDrive System 48 vehicles are compatible with the Power-Drive Charger (Neither vehicles made by other manufacturers, nor other Club Car models are compatible).

As long as the charger is allowed to shut off by itself, the batteries will be fully charged. Overcharging andundercharging will normally be prevented.

• WHEN TEMPERATURES FALL BELOW 65° F (18.3 C), BATTERIES CHARGED IN UNHEATEDAREAS SHOULD BE PLACED ON CHARGE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER USE. BATTERIESARE WARMEST IMMEDIATELY AFTER USE, AND COLD BATTERIES REQUIRE MORE TIME TOFULLY CHARGE.

Batteries should be put on charge even if they have been used for only a short period (10 minutes). Thecharger is automatic and will turn off when batteries are fully charged. If the charger does not seem to beoperating properly, or if the batteries seem weak, contact your local CLUB CAR distributor/dealer.

Receptacle Fuse LinkAs an additional feature to protect the batteries and charging circuit from an overload, Carryall I and CarryallII electric vehicles are equipped with receptacle fuse links (Figure 40). If the charger does not come onwhen the vehicle is placed on charge, visually inspect the fuse link.

CLEANING THE VEHICLE

The vehicle is equipped with an Armorflex® front body and and an all-aluminum rear body and cargo bed.Use only mild dishwashing liquid soap with a sponge or soft cloth for normal cleaning. See CAUTION below.

Minor scratches or blemishes in the front body or the rear body can be buffed out using most commerciallyavailable polishing compounds and polishes.

The seats of the vehicle will last longer with proper cleaning. Mild soap or detergent with a sponge or softcloth for normal cleaning is recommended. For stubborn or imbedded dirt, a soft bristle brush may be used.

Do not use harsh detergents or cleaning solvents on the front body or the seats.

Battery acid, fertilizers, tars, asphalt, creosote, paint, or chewing gum should be removed immediately to pre-vent possible stains. Use commercial automotive products because the finish on the vehicle is the same asthe finish on today’s automobiles.

VEHICLE CONTROLLER - ELECTRIC VEHICLE

The Carryall electric vehicle is equipped with a Solid State Speed Controller.

In order to properly service and maintain the Solid State Controller Vehicle, it is necessary to understand theelectrical circuitry and the functions of all components in the system. Therefore, if any repair or servicingneeds to be performed, we recommend that it be performed by an authorized Club Car distributor/dealerusing CLUB CAR OEM parts.

ACCESSORIES AND OPTIONS

All Carryall vehicles have a complete line of optional equipment items and accessories that are available.Contact your distributor/dealer for an Optional Equipment book. Care should be taken that these accessoriesand options are properly installed by trained technicians, and that they are used in the manner for which theywere designed.

SUBSEQUENT OWNER REGISTRATION

LIMITED WARRANTY FOR 1998 TRANSPORTATION AND UTILITY VEHI-CLES IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA

1. WARRANTY:

CLUB CAR, INC. (“CLUB CAR”) hereby warrants to the original retail purchaser that its new 1998 ModelTransportation or Utility vehicle purchased from CLUB CAR or an authorized Transportation/Utility Vehicledealer for use in the United States or Canada shall be free from defects in materials and workmanship undernormal use and service as a transportation/utility vehicle for the periods stated below, subject to the provi-sions, limitations and exclusions contained in this limited warranty.

LIMITED TWO (2) YEAR / 2000 HOUR WARRANTY:

The engine assembly, unitized transaxle assembly (gasoline vehicle), motor, transaxle assembly (electricvehicle), main frame assembly, hydraulic dump kit, Custom Cab assembly and doors, and Driving RangeProtective Enclosure are warranted with respect to parts and labor against defects in materials and work-manship for a period of two years from the date of purchase, or for 2000 hours of operation; whicheveroccurs first.

LIMITED ONE (1) YEAR / 1000 HOUR WARRANTY:

All remaining components of the vehicle not specified otherwise, the Portable Refreshment Center, and allother optional equipment and accessories are warranted with respect to parts and labor against defects inmaterials and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase, or for 1000 hours of opera-tion; whichever occurs first.

This limited warranty covers materials, workmanship and repair labor cost as to those items specifically listedabove for the periods specified. Such repair labor shall be performed only by CLUB CAR, its authorized deal-ers, or a service agency approved by CLUB CAR.

IF THE WARRANTY REGISTRATION FORM IS NOT COMPLETED AND RETURNED TO CLUB CAR ATTHE TIME OF THE ORIGINAL RETAIL SALE, PURCHASER MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF DATE OF PUR-CHASE WITH ANY WARRANTY CLAIM.

2. EXCLUSIONS:

Excluded from any Transportation/Utility vehicle warranty are all fuses, filters, decals (except safety decals),spark plugs, lubricants, trim pieces, seats, routine wear items such as the charger plug and receptacle, brakeshoes, belts, brushes, bushings, light bulbs, mats and pads, maintenance adjustments, cosmetic deteriora-tion, and items which deteriorate or fail due to exposure or ordinary wear and tear. Batteries, the batterycharger, on-board computer, and solid-state speed controller are covered under separate CLUB CAR war-ranties. Tires are warranted by their manufacturer. Also excluded from any Transportation/Utility warranty isdamage to a vehicle or component resulting from a cause other than a defect including unreasonable orunintended strain or use, improper installation of accessories, installation of parts or accessories that are notoriginal equipment, overloading, accident, alteration, abuse or neglect.

Transportation expenses for warranty service are also excluded from this warranty.

3. VOIDING OF WARRANTY:

THIS AND ANY OTHER WARRANTY SHALL BE VOID IF THE VEHICLE IS ABUSED OR USED IN ANUNINTENDED MANNER OR SHOWS INDICATIONS THAT IT HAS BEEN ALTERED IN ANY WAY, INCLUD-ING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, MODIFICATION OF THE SPEED GOVERNOR, BRAKING SYSTEM, STEER-ING, TRANSAXLE, OR OTHER OPERATING SYSTEMS OF THE VEHICLE TO CAUSE IT TO PERFORMOUTSIDE CLUB CAR SPECIFICATIONS. THE WARRANTY IS LIKEWISE VOID IF THE VEHICLE SHOWSINDICATIONS THAT REASONABLE OR NECESSARY MAINTENANCE AS OUTLINED IN THE OWNER’SMANUAL AND MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE MANUAL WAS NOT PERFORMED AT THE TIME AND INTHE MANNER SPECIFIED IN SUCH MANUALS.

4. SOLE REMEDY:

CLUB CAR’S ONLY LIABILITY UNDER THIS LIMITED WARRANTY, OR IN ANY ACTION WHETHERBASED UPON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT PRODUCT LIABILITY OR OTHER-WISE, IS LIMITED TO THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT, AT CLUB CAR’S OPTION, OF A VEHICLE ORCOMPONENT THEREOF THAT CLUB CAR DEEMS TO BE DEFECTIVE. REPLACEMENT SHALL MEANFURNISHING, DURING THE APPLICABLE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD, A NEW VEHICLE OR FAC-TORY RECONDITIONED VEHICLE OR COMPONENT THEREOF WHICH IS IDENTICAL OR REASON-ABLY EQUIVALENT TO THE WARRANTED PRODUCT OR COMPONENT AT NO COST TO THEPURCHASER. REPAIR SHALL MEAN REMEDYING A DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE OR COMPONENTTHEREOF AT NO COST TO THE PURCHASER DURING THE APPLICABLE LIMITED WARRANTYPERIOD. IF CLUB CAR ELECTS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE, IT MAY PROVIDE FACTORY RECONDI-TIONED PARTS OR COMPONENTS. ALL PARTS AND COMPONENTS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTYSHALL BECOME THE PROPERTY OF CLUB CAR.

5. HOW TO MAKE A WARRANTY CLAIM:

To make a warranty claim under this limited warranty, you must present the vehicle or defective component toan authorized Transportation/Utility vehicle dealer or send the defective component, freight prepaid, to WAR-RANTY ADMINISTRATION, CLUB CAR, INC., 4152 Washington Road, Augusta, Georgia 30907-4658.

6. DISCLAIMER:

THIS LIMITED WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE. CLUB CAR MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTY OF ANY KIND,EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR APARTICULAR PURPOSE WHICH EXCEED THE OBLIGATIONS OR TIME LIMITS STATED IN THIS WAR-RANTY ARE HEREBY DISCLAIMED BY CLUB CAR AND EXCLUDED FROM THIS WARRANTY. THEPURCHASER AND CLUB CAR EXPRESSLY AGREE THAT THE REMEDY OF REPAIR OR REPLACE-MENT OF THE DEFECTIVE VEHICLE OR COMPONENT THEREOF IS THE EXCLUSIVE AND SOLEREMEDY OF THE PURCHASER. CLUB CAR MAKES NO OTHER REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTYOF ANY KIND, AND NO REPRESENTATIVE, EMPLOYEE, OR DEALER OF CLUB CAR HAS THEAUTHORITY TO MAKE OR IMPLY ANY REPRESENTATION, PROMISE, OR AGREEMENT WHICH INANY WAY VARIES THE TERMS OF THIS WARRANTY.

7. NO CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES:

IN NO EVENT SHALL CLUB CAR BE LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAM-AGES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, LOSS RELATED TO PROPERTY OTHER THAN THE VEHI-CLE, LOSS OF USE, LOSS OF TIME, INCONVENIENCE, OR ANY OTHER ECONOMIC LOSS.

Some states allow neither limitation on the duration of an implied warranty nor exclusions or limitation of inci-dental or consequential damages. Therefore, the above limitations or exclusions may not apply to you.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state tostate.

8. INFORMATION:
