    hen "our car is par'ed, the gear selector is loc'ed in the (P)ar' position. To release the selector

    &rom this position, turn the ignition 'e" to position II (or start the engine), depress the /ra'e pedal,

     press the /utton on the &ront side o& the gear selector and mo0e the selector &rom (P)ar'.

    I& it is necessar" to manuall" o0erride the %hi&tloc' s"stem, see page :12 &or instructions.

    This means that when "ou switch o&& the ignition, the gear selector must /e in the (P)ar' position

     /e&ore the starting (ignition) 'e" can /e remo0ed &rom the ignition switch.

    ATIO- 4RA3 %#%T3M (A4%)

    The A4% s"stem in "our car per&orms a sel&diagnostic test when the 0ehicle &irst reaches the speed

    o& appro5imatel" 67 mph (87 'm9h). The /ra'e pedal will pulsate se0eral times and a sound ma" /e

    audi/le &rom the A4% control module. This is normal.The pages in this section pro0ide detailed descriptions o& the 0ehicles instruments and controls.

    The &uel tan' holds appro5imatel" 1;.8 % gals. (28 liters). hen the warning light comes on there

    6 4oost pressure gauge

    (Tur/o models onl")

    The /oost pressure gauge is di0ided into sections. 4lac' section: The engine acts as a normall"

    aspirated engine. 4est &uel econom" is achie0ed while dri0ing in this range. hite section: The

    tur/ocharger pro0ides /oost pressure.

    8 Temperature gauge

    The pointer should /e appro5imatel" midwa" on the gauge &ace when dri0ing. I& the pointer

    approaches the red range repeatedl", chec' coolant le0el. Co not dri0e the car with the pointer in the

    red range. %ee B-oolantB section.

    Reads thousands o& engine rpm. The engine should not /e operated in the red range.

    The highest permitted constant engine speed is ,877 rpm (tur/ocharged models: ,677 rpm, 4

    The warning lights descri/ed on pages 1:> and 1:< should ne0er sta" on when dri0ing

    hen the ignition 'e" is turned on and /e&ore the engine starts, all o& the warning lights should /e

    on to test the &unction o& the /ul/s. %hould a light not go o&& a&ter the engine has started, the s"stem

    indicated should /e inspected. *owe0er, the par'ing /ra'e reminder light will not go o&& until the

     par'ing /ra'e is &ull" released.

    Eenerator warning light

    I& the light comes on while the engine is running, chec' the tension o& the generator dri0e /elt as

    soon as possi/le.

    Mal&unction indicator lamp

    I& the lamp comes on (or sta"s on a&ter the 0ehicle has started), the engine diagnostic s"stem has

    detected a possi/le &ault in the emission control s"stem. Although dri0ea/ilit" ma" not /e a&&ected,

    see an authori?ed Fol0o dealer as soon as possi/le &or inspection.

    Oil pressure warning light

    I& the light comes on while dri0ing, the oil pressure is too low. %top the car and then stop the engine

    immediatel" and chec' the engine oil le0el. %ee section B3ngine oilB. I& the light sta"s on a&ter

    restart, ha0e the car towed to the nearest authori?ed Fol0o dealer. A&ter hard dri0ing, the light ma"

    come on occasionall" when the engine is idling. This is normal, pro0ided it goes o&& when the

    engine speed is increased.

    Par'ing /ra'e reminder light

    This light will /e on when the par'ing /ra'e (hand /ra'e) is applied. The par'ing /ra'e le0er is

    situated /etween the &ront seats. -anadian models are e$uipped with this warning light:

    I& the light comes on while dri0ing or /ra'ing, this indicates that the /ra'e &luid le0el is too low.

    %top immediatel", open the hood and chec' the /ra'e &luid le0el in the reser0oir (see section

    B3ngine compartmentB &or reser0oir position)! -anadian models are e$uipped with this warning

    light:

    ARIE!I& the &luid le0el is /elow the MI mar' in either section o& the reser0oir: CO OT CRIF3. Tow

    the car to a Fol0o dealer and ha0e the /ra'e s"stem chec'ed and an" lea'age repaired.

    TRA-% warning light (option)

    I& this lamp comes on while dri0ing, a &ault is indicated in the TRAction -ontrol %"stem. It will also

    come on i& the /ra'es are o0erheated and will go out when the /ra'es ha0e cooled.

    I& the lamp remains on, the s"stem should /e chec'ed /" an authori?ed Fol0o dealer. This lamp

    should not /e con&used with the O9O++ indicator lamp a/o0e the switch. %ee page 1:; &or

    additional in&ormation.

    Antiloc' 4ra'e %"stem (A4%)

    I& the warning lamp lights up there is a mal&unction o& the A4% s"stem (the standard /ra'ing s"stem

    will howe0er &unction). The 0ehicle should /e dri0en to a Fol0o dealer &or inspection.

    -anadian models are e$uipped with this warning light:

    -oolant le0el sensor

    I& the light comes on while dri0ing, the coolant le0el is low. The coolant le0el in the e5pansion tan'

    should /e chec'ed immediatel" and topped up i& necessar". The cooling s"stem should /e inspected

     /" an authori?ed Fol0o dealer.

    Mode BB engaged

    The lamp will light up when the inter starting mode is engaged or i& gears B8B or BB are selected.

    I& the warning lamp /egins to &lash, this means that there is a &ault in the automatic gear/o5.

    Turn signals

    1 ane hange position. !n $aneu'ers suh as lane hanging, the dri'er an flash the turn signals %#

    $o'ing the turn signal le'er to the first stop and holding it there. The le'er will return to the neutral

     position when released.- &ignal le'er engaged for nor$al turns.

    High %ea$/low %ea$ swith (headlights on).

    Headlight flasher (headlights off).

    o'e the le'er towards the steering wheel. The headlight high %ea$ will %e on until the le'er is

    released.

    7 Auto$ati da#ti$e running lights

    running lights when the headlight swith is in position ?.

    To adust, press in the srew with a s$all srewdri'er and turn to one of the following positions:

    The front fog lights, loated in the front spoiler, will onl# funtion in o$%ination with the low

    A 7 T8Ation ontrol ste$ (T8A&) 7 option

    T8A& is a s#ste$ designed as an aid when starting/dri'ing off if one of the dri'e wheels has poor

    tration due to weather onditions or the road surfae and is onneted to the A>& ontrol $odule.

    T8A& is swithed on $anuall# with a %utton on the dash%oard. The indiator la$p in the %utton

    will light up when the s#ste$ is O0. "ith the %utton in the O0 position, T8A& ati'ates

    auto$atiall# if one of the front wheels loses tration, shifting power to the wheel with %est

    tration.

    A sound fro$ the A>& ontrol $odule $a# %e audi%le at this ti$e. The s#ste$ funtions onl# at

    speeds under - $ph (5? k$/h).

    Resetting the clock

    The digital clock can be reset by pressing one of the to buttons (A and !) ith a pointed ob"ect

    such as the tip of a pen.

    $aintain the pressure on the buttons for more than four seconds to change the time more %uickly.

    Ambient temperature sensor

    This sensor indicates the temperature slightly abo&e the road surface. A red arning lamp (C) lights

    up hen the temperature is in the range of ' *+ (- '+ C). /lease note that this lamp does

    not indicate a fault ith your car.

    At lo speeds or hen the car is not mo&ing, the temperature readings may be slightly higher than

    the actual ambient temperature due to the heat generated by the engine.

    0isplay alternati&es

    f buttons A and ! are pressed don simultaneously, it is possible to shift beteen four different

    display alternati&es, as follos:

    /ress 1st time: 1' hour clock and +

    /ress 'nd time: '2 hour clock and +

    /ress rd time: 1' hour clock and +C

    /ress 2th time: '2 hour clock and +C

     34T5: f your battery has been disconnected, the display ill default to the '2 hour clock and

    degrees centigrade.

    The trip computer offers si6 functions hich are presented in a single display. The cursor indicates

    the selected function. The trip computer7s clock is shon permanently in the lefthand field. Refer

    to the pre&ious page for more detailed information regarding the clock function.

    The folloing data is monitored by the computer:

    • A&erage speed

    • Current fuel consumption

    • A&erage fuel consumption

    • Ambient temperature

    • Tripmeter

    • 0ri&ing distance on current fuel reser&e

    8arning function

    The trip computer is e%uipped ith to arning functions:

    • 9o fuel le&el

    • 9o ambient temperature

    f either of these situations occurs, the cursor is acti&ated beside the function affected and in

    case of lo ambient temperature, lamp A also lights up.

    The rele&ant &alue is shon in the display, regardless of the function selected. n order to

    return to the selected function, the control should be rotated one step in either direction and

    then back again.

     34T5: The lo ambient temperature arning alays has the highest priority on the display panel.

    Trip computer controls

    ;elect one of the trip computer7s si6 functions by using control !. The Reset button (C) is used to

    reset the folloing functions:

    • A&erage speed

    • A&erage fuel consumption

    • Trip meter

    Rotate the control to the re%uired position and press the button for at least to seconds to

    reset the selected function.

     34T5: f pressure is maintained on the button for another three seconds, all three of the functions

    mentioned abo&e ill be reset.

    speed is stored in memory and is used as the basis for the ne figure hen the engine is started

    again. t can be reset by pressing the reset button on the trip computer control.

    Current fuel consumption mpg (Canada: 9=1>> km)

    Continuous information on current fuel consumption, calculated once per second. 8hen the car is

    not mo&ing, the display shos ??.

    A&erage fuel consumption < mpg (Canada: 9=1>> km)

    A&erage fuel consumption since the function as last reset. 8hen the ignition is sitched off, the

    a&erage fuel consumption figure is stored in memory and remains in memory until it is reset using

    the button on the trip computer control.

    reading. 8hen the %uantity of fuel drops to belo appro6imately 1.@ ; gals. (@ liters), a arning

    light in the instrument panel comes on and the cursor beside the ?0ri&ing 0istance on Current uel

    Reser&e? symbol is acti&ated. This takes place regardless of the function currently selected. 8hen

    the dri&ing distance on the current fuel reser&e is less than - miles (@ km), the display shos ?B?.

    Cruise control

    The cruise control sitches are located on the turn signal le&er.

    To engage and set the desired speed:

    1. ;et sitch (!) to 43.

    '. Accelerate to the desired cruise speed.. /ress the or area of the ;5T button (A) to set the desired speed.

     34T5: The cruise control cannot be engaged at speeds belo '' mph (- km).

    !raking

    This ill automatically disengage the cruise control. The pre&iously selected cruise speed is

    retained in the memory and by momentarily setting the sitch to the R5;$5 position, that speedill be reengaged.

    f the cruise control is already engaged, the cruising speed can be increased or decreased by

    depressing the ;5T button (A) toards either or . 4ne short press on the button corresponds to a

    speed change of appro6. 1 mph (1.* km=h). 8hen the button is released, the &ehicle ill maintain

    the current speed.

    f actual speed falls belo >D of the set speed or if the heels spin or lock, the cruise control ill

    disengage automatically.

     34T5: (AT4$ATC TRA3;$;;43)

    8hen dri&ing up steep hills ith the cruise control engaged, the transmission may shift

    intermittently. This can be a&oided by sitching beteen transmission modes 5 or ; hile on the

    hill.

     3ormally, the ( 5 )conomy mode should be used hen the cruise control is engaged.

    Acceleration

    $omentary acceleration, such as for passing, does not interrupt cruise control operation. The pre&iously selected speed ill be maintained ithout ha&ing to set the sitch to R5;$5.

    To disengage the cruise control system :

    ;et sitch (!) to 4, depress the brake pedal or mo&e the gear selector to position 3. ;itching

    off the starting (ignition) sitch ill automatically disengage the cruise control system.

    4n cars e%uipped ith manual transmissions, the cruise control can also be disengaged by

    depressing the clutch.

    8AR33EF The cruise control should not be used in hea&y traffic or hen dri&ing on et or

    slippery roads. 0o not use or resume cruise control in re&erse gear.

    8hen the ignition is sitched off, any information stored in the cruise control memory is erased.

    The heated front seats can be sitched on and off as re%uired. 8hen sitched on, the system senses

    the ambient temperature and regulates the le&el of heat applied. 8hen the optimum temperature is

    reached, the heating sitches off automatically. 8hile dri&ing, the seat heating for the passenger

    seat should be sitched off hen the seat is not occupied.

    Geated rear seats

    The rear seat heating can be sitched on by pressing the button once. /ress the button again to

    sitch the heating off. f the heating is not sitched off manually, a timer ill automatically turn

    the system off after 1> minutes. The rear seat heating should be sitched off hen the seats are not

    occupied.

     34T5: The rear seat heating connector (located under the seat cushion) must be disconnected

     before the rear seat cushions can be remo&ed.

    /arking brake (hand brake)

    The le&er is situated beteen the front seats. The brake is applied to the rear heels.

    8AR33EF Alays use the parking brake (hand brake) hen parking. 4n hills, also turn the front

    heels toard the curb.

    Cigarette lighter

    To operate, depress the knob fully. 8hen the knob automatically releases, the cigarette lighter is

    ready for use.

    The starting (ignition) sitch must be either in position or for the cigarette lighter to function.

    The cigarette lighter is located to the right of the gear shift le&er on certain models. This is due to

    the placement of the ?4!0 ? terminal, a diagnostic connector intended for use by authoriHed

    ser&ice technicians only.

     Rear ash tray

    Ash trays

    To open the front ash tray, press lightly on the panel.

    To open the rear ash tray, pull it straight out.

    to heat!cool the car quic0ly. Cn this position, very little air is drawn into the passenger

    compartment rom the outside. Do not leave the system in this mode or more than 1'1

    minutes since the air inside the car will become stale. #he temperature can be controlled

    with the temperature selectors.

    the position the unction selector is in. #o increase the low o air to either the loor or the

    Electrically-operated sun roof

    The switch for operating the sun roof is located on the instrument panel. The starting (ignition) key

    must first e turned to the dri!e position. "n certain models# the sun roof is e$uipped with a one-

    touch# %&T"-open function.

    • To slide open the sun roof: 'epress the lower section of the switch until the sun roof has

    opened to the position you prefer or hold the switch until the sun roof reaches the comfort

     position. 'epress the lower section of the switch again to open the sun roof completely.

    • %&T"-open: *ress the lower section of the switch once to automatically open the sun roof

    to the comfort position. *ress again to open the sun roof completely. The %&T"-open

    function can e stopped at any time y pressing the switch.

    • To close the sun-roof : 'epress the upper section of the switch until the sun roof has closed

    completely .

    To open the rear edge of the sun roof (ventilation position) : With the sun roof closed,depress the upper section of the switch. To close, depress the lower section of the switch

    until the sun roof has closed completely.

    damage the mechanism.

    The electrically-operated sun roof has an o!erload protecting circuit reaker which is acti!ated

    when an oect locks the sun roof. Should this occur# remo!e the oect and wait 2/ seconds forthe circuit reaker to reset. The sun roof should then function normally. ,n case of a sun roof

    malfunction# see Ser!ice diagnosis# page 0:1.

    The rear seat is split into two sections so that each section can be folded independently.

    • Lift the rear seat belts to the fixed section of the backrest. The center seat belt can also be

    folded across the fixed part of the backrest so that it does not get in the way if the righthand

     backrest is folded down (see ill!stration abo"e).

    • #!ll the catch forward and fold the backrest down.

    The two red le"ers on the rear side of the backrests can be !sed to bypass the folding

    $echanis$ and pre"ent the backrests fro$ being folded down fro$ inside the car. #!sh the

    distinct snapping sound is eard. *e seat belt retractor is normally "unlocked" and you can move

    freely, provided tat te soulder belt is not pulled out too far. *e retractor will lock up as follows:

    • if te belt is pulled out rapidly

    • during braking and acceleration

    • if te veicle is leaning ecessively

    • wen driving in turns

    %or te seat belt to provide maimum protection in te event of an accident, it must be worn

    correctly. 4en wearing te seat belt remember:

    *e belt sould not be twisted or turned.• *e lap belt must be positioned low on te ips /not pressing against te abdomen0.

    • *e soulder section of te front seat belts ad)usts automatically to te driver!s eigt.

    5ake sure tat te soulder belt is rolled up into its retractor and tat te soulder and lap

     belts are taut.

    6efore eiting te car, ceck tat te seat belt retracts fully after being unbuckled.

    Restraint (ystem /(R(0. *e $olvo (R( consists of an airbag /+0 and knee bolster />0 on bot te

    driver!s and passenger!s sides and seat belt tensioners in bot front door pillars /0. *e system is

    designed to supplement te protection provided by te tree&point seat belt system.

    *e (R( system is indicated by te "(R(" embossed on te steering weel pad and above te glove

    compartment, te knee bolsters beneat te steering column and te glove compartment and decalson bot sun visors and on te far rigt side of te das.

    *e airbags are folded and located in te center of te steering weel and above te glove

    compartment. *ey are released only during certain frontal or front&angular collisions, depending

    on te cras severity, angle, speed and ob)ect impacted. 6ot airbags and seat belt tensioners will

    deploy, even if te passenger seat is not occupied.

    aware tat no system can prevent all possible in)uries tat may occur in an accident.

    *e airbag system includes gas generators /10 surrounded by te airbags /+0 and front seat belt

    tensioners for bot of te front seats /0. *o deploy te system, te sensor /30 activates te gas

    generators causing te airbags to be inflated wit nitrogen gas. 's te movement of te seat!s

    occupants compresses te airbags, some of te gas is epelled at a controlled rate to provide better
