The Evolution of the
comedy genre - 1990
Plot
Daniel Hillard is a voice actor living in California, who recently quit a project, because he wouldn't endorse a character who smokes. He is a good father to his three children Natalie, Lydia and Christopher. However, Daniel is not a very responsible husband, and when he throws a rousing birthday party for Chris, his wife Miranda takes it as a sign Daniel is too immature and seeks a divorce. At their first custody hearing, the judge grants Miranda custody of the children, since Daniel has neither a suitable residence nor a steady job.
After a bitter divorce, an Daniel disguises himself as a female housekeeper to spend time with his children held in custody by his former wife.
evolution
This comedy see’s the genre take humor from silent, slapstick, silly, absurdity and innuendo sorts of comedies, to taking the genre into the real world of everyday life, taking a situation that is very common and often distressing, and creating humor out it. This indicates that humor and comedy itself has evolved into audiences finding everyday situations an scenes in which they can relate to funnier than previous sorts of comedy. The success of the film was strong and so backs up that point however using this as the focus film does not speak for all of the 1990s comedy films, for instance ‘silly’ and almost sort slapstick comedy still appeared throughout, with ‘Dumb and Dumber’ being released in 94, and was also successful.
