PREZ's PAGE FLY-BY NOTES ........ .

If you missed the meeting last month, you missed a good one. We had a round table discussion on SAFETY. The meeting was led by Mel Asberry and included all the people at the meeting: their experiences, questions, and thoughts about safety. Thanks Mel and members. I learned a lot.

Next month's meeting will be an Oshkosh debriefing. Join us for all the hangar lies, jokes, true stories, and photos you can stand. You can enjoy Oshkosh without sweating as much as we did.

Remember, this is the last meeting before Kerrville. Come sign up to volunteer with the Chapter .and get your Special F.L.O. Patch. John Crook will have the schedule.

We had delicious watermelon at the Lancaster Airport Meeting thanks to Dorman Hinchliffe. Pilots with airplanes present included Don Afflack, Monroe McDonald, Brownie Seals, Nick Nickle, John Crook, Bill Wisely, Kerry Cartier, John Hackney, Don Christiansen, L. Palmer, John Herndon, and Jim Putney. There was a real variety of aircraft. Those of us who were IPR (I follow roads) weren't airborne but had a great time too. If you are a visitor, this event is a good way to get acquainted with people and projects. This month's Airport Meeting is at Eagles Nest. There's a map in this letter. It will be our first time at this location so YA'LL COME!

Be aware that the TCA issue is not dead. There will be a meeting with the FAA at the Marriot Quorum on Aug.11 at 7pm. We would like to have a good turnout from our Chapter to show our interest and strength. Join us there if you can.

I got to see many of our Chapter members at Oshkosh. For me, Oshkosh is more than airplanes. It's a spirit of enthusiasm, love of flying, and interest to find out what's on the horizon. The people and aircraft come alive together. Working in Membership at Oshkosh, I met people from all over the world. As I greeted friendly faces from home I remembered the EAA banner in our meeting room and I realized We've Got the Spirit. Our members and visitors keep it alive. See you all at the meeting!

Fly Safely

Chris

U G LY P L A N E

As long ago promised this is a somewhat complete list in Jun '88 cost on a large number of the parts and material necessary to build the CH 7~1 STOL. This list as you can tell by inspection does not include any thing forward of the firewall with exceptions of maybe the landing gear etc. This list was produced by taking page 7.G.3 of the plans (refer to next page) and applying prices from various sources each source is so noted. While this list may not be complete it will give one an idea of the cost involved to produce this aircraft.

As more information becomes available and we can replace some of the SWAG info we'll pass it along.

some good news, Chris Heintz, the brain behind the CH 701 design has just finished the drawings for the VW and Continental Engine rt,ounts. More on this and other topics can be had in the ZENAIR NEWSLETTER (ZENAIR NEWS) 6438 West Millbrook Dr. Remus, Michigan 49340 (517)561-2393. Dues are $15 per year.

The bad news is the price list for all Zenair supplied parts, etc is currently going through its once a year update and the prices are going to go up. The new list will be out in July 88 and available at OSHKOSH. Zenair's office hours are 8 -4:30 Eastern Standard Time. The address is Zenair Ltd. Huronia Airport Midland, Ontario Canada L4R 4K8 (705) 526-2871.

An apology to ROBERT WALL, DAN EDWARDS, DARWIN OLSON, and JOHNNIE ESKUE for taking so long in the delivery of the above.

THE PILOT'S TEN COMMANDMENTS

I. Beware of the intersection take-off for verily the runway behind thee and altitude above thee are no more than another hole in the head. II. Tarry not on active runways for mad confusion may result causing thee to make like a chopping block. III. Ignore not thy checklist, for many are the switches, valves and handles waiting to take vengenance upon thee. IV. Look to thy left and to thy right as thou journey thru the sky, or thy fellow pilots will surely buy beers for thy widow. V. Buzz not, for this incurreth the wrath of thy neighbor and bringeth the fury of the FAA on thy head and shoulders. VI. Take the measure of thy fuel for verily, a tank full of air is an embarrassment at 10,000 ft. Yea, and even more so on departure leg. VII. Push not through the scud lest the Angel Gabriel be waiting on the other side. VIII. Trifle not with the thunderstorm for thy wings and tail feathers are like to be shorn from thy sky chariot and thyself be cast about the firmament. IX. Beware of weather prophets for the truth is not always in them. X. Check frequently thy airspeed on final lest the firmament riseth up and smite thee.

We feel that the success of an organization depends upon member involvement. If every member of Chapter 168 was active in some aspect of the group effort we would really have a gung-ho outfit. There a.re lots of areas that can use attention ••• so step forth and be count ed. Ideas a.re welcome and you ma;r be asked to "take it around the patch."

Just because we have 100,000 hours and three incarnations as a pilot ••• we a.re not aey better than aeyone else.
