GPO Group is a multi-disciplinary Architecture and Engineering group with global presence and local nature

GPO Group is a global company with local nature that renders consulting services in the Mobility, Transportation, Railway Systems, Building, Automotive, Energy and Environmental industries. Its origins date back to 1985 when the company Gestión de Proyectos y Obras was created.

As a group committed to progress, we are interested in contributing to improving the environment of the countries where we operate. Our philosophy is based on applying the knowledge and experience acquired in the last three decades to our projects and on offering our clients effective solutions that meet their needs by using first-rate technologies.

A STEP FORWARD

In 2015 we went a step forward towards the globalization and diversification of our Group, strengthening those strategic markets in which we want to base our business during the coming years, and betting on the emerging markets to which we can provide the experience acquired during the thirty year career of GPO Group.

The incorporation of Sam Schwartz to the Group, a North American company based in New York with local offices in New Jersey, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles and Tampa, has brought the culmination of a long establishing process in the USA, which we started in 2011. The high degree of expertise of Sam Schwartz and its long career as an engineering company in the North American market open up a future plenty of opportunities in one of the biggest growing markets in the world.

Apart from the great boost in the USA, the Group has also bet on promoting the organic growth of the Colombian market, and on laying the foundations to encourage the emerging growth in Peru. Launched by major engineering contracts for freeway and airport concessions, Colombia has become the fourth biggest market of the Group in terms of revenue, with a percentage of over 10% of the consolidated income.

At the corporate level and coinciding with the 30th anniversary of our foundation, we renewed our corporate image in 2015. A new logo to standardize the brand of all the companies that form GPO Group with the aim of showing a modern image is also a step forward in the business transformation we started some years ago, which is making us what we are today: a multinational engineering and architecture company.

For all this, we think we met in 2015 the goals we had set. To this day, we are steering our future already to keep growing and to become the benchmark company for the markets in which we operate. This is once again a step forward towards the right direction.

GPO Group Companies

Since 2014, the structure of GPO Group is that of a holding that depends on a parent company, which constitutes the Group’s Board. Each of these companies operates in its local market, but they also cover international projects, depending on their area of expertise.

In Spain, we operate GPO Ingeniería y Arquitectura, S.L.U in Barcelona and GPO Ingeniería de Sistemas, S.L.U. in Madrid, with technical professionals distributed throughout the national territory.

In America, the Group has Sam Schwartz Consulting, LLC for operations within North America (USA and Canada), based in New York and with offices in

New Jersey, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles and Tampa; SISTRAN Engenharia, S.L. based in São Paulo (Brazil) and offices in Belém and Maceió; GPO Colombia, S.A.S. based in Bogotá; and GPO Peru, S.A.C. based in Lima (Peru).

Since 2014 and focusing its activity on the automotive industry, GPO Group has representative offices in India, based in New Delhi, and in China with offices in Beijing.

In addition, GPO Group holds international agreements with companies of the engineering and architecture area, which allows them to operate practically in any country in the world.

After the business reorganization implemented during the previous years, through which GPO Group became a holding, that renders consulting services in the Mobility, Transportation, Railway Systems, Building, Automotive, Energy and Environmental industries, 2015 was the year to consolidate and standardize the brand image of the Group.

One of the most important actions of 2015 was the incorporation of the North American company Sam Schwartz Consulting, LLC, based in New York. Such association strengthens significantly the positioning of GPO Group in the USA. Continuing with the implementation of our Strategy Plan, the most significant investment of the Group during 2015 was focused on the USA, with the acquisition of 30% of the Sam Schwartz shareholding, and an agreement on future progressive acquisition until reaching the majority of share capital and, therefore, taking control of the company.

With the incorporation of Sam Schwartz into the Group, GPO is reinforcing its core business as leading transportation consulting. Apart

from its great territorial penetration, with offices in New Jersey, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles and Tampa, Sam Schwartz is also providing its expertise on urban planning and mobility management. Thanks to the team of experts, Sam Schwartz is considered one of the leading companies in the USA.

2015 was also the year for the consolidation of the Colombian market. GPO Colombia has grown considerably, thanks to the major concessional contracts launched in the country, in which GPO has taken an active part. The new Fourth Generation Highways and, especially, the major airport projects have contributed to creating a permanent team, made up of professionals who are highly prepared to manage important engineering contracts.

We are primarily proud of being awarded with the project for the extension of the terminal and the aircraft parking area of the El Dorado Airport in Bogotá, the second airport in South America with the largest passenger flow and one of the biggest growing airports worldwide.

On one hand, the culmination of the design of one of the most important R&D Centers in the world for the motorcycle manufacturer HERO MotoCorp in Jaipur (India) has set us as one of the leading companies in the automotive industry. On the other hand, the new industrial projects the company has been awarded with in China, regarding the design of automotive technical centers, foretell a promising future for this area.

As always, we finished the year thinking of what is about to come. We firmly think of consolidating the markets and expertise areas

we have developed during the last years, and promoting the synergies between the centers of technical excellence we have established for each and every company of GPO Group. Europe and America will still be a priority, but without forgetting other continents such as Asia and Oceania, where we have already started to develop our activity regularly.

Our activity during 2015 was fuelled by the diversification of our service range. The consolidation of GPO Ingenieria de Sistemas (former 2iT), company acquired in 2014, has contributed to the creation of synergies and the opening of new markets. Thanks to the acquisition of GPO Sistemas, the Group has carried out railway consulting projects in Argentina, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Aruba, among others.

Spain, Brazil and Peru are also strategic markets for GPO Group. The operations in these markets have been adapted to the

circumstances that have plotted the path of these economies throughout the years. The most important is, undoubtedly, the great project portfolio the Group has in these markets, since it is allowing us to look optimistically and comfortably towards the future. We have had very positive experiences from these countries, such as the New Zealand project (Oceania), which means that GPO Group has worked in the five continents during its 30 years of existence.

The automotive industry has been, once again, spearhead of innovation within the Group.

GPO Group is deeply committed to social actions that contribute to improving the professional, personal and academic growth and well-being of all its members. We value people, encouraging their training, preserving their safety and health and aiming at continuous quality improvement. The group promotes keys in the social field to encourage respect in all actions within our environment.

GPO Group promotes academic and cultural education of its employees, offering specialization courses mainly in the areas of design, planning and environment. In addition, those with most seniority are assisted to supplement their training with post-graduate courses and junior employees to conclude their university courses, after a period of internship.

We promote not only intellectual development, but also physical. GPO Group makes posture-correction experts available to advise and assist employees to improve their posture and exercise while they are at work. The group also supports participation in sport events, such as races, soccer games and other sports of interest.

In 2015, GPO Group established connections and actions with the following entities:

• Difusión Banco de Recursos (Resource Allocation Bank). One of the lines defined by GPO Group in terms of corporate social responsibility is donating furniture and IT material to said entity, which is then in charge of assigning this kind of resources to social organizations for those most in need.

• Ningún niño sin juguete (No kids without toys). Since 2013, GPO Group collaborates by

earmarking part of the returns arising from bank institutions for toys that are delivered to hospitals (Hospital de Nens in Barcelona and Hospital Niño Jesús in Madrid) during the Christmas period.

• Food Bank. Operación Kilo (Kilo Operation). GPO Group is involved with the Food Bank since 2011 and promotes the Kilo Operation intended to collect durable food. This year, food has been delivered to the Food Bank in Madrid and to social canteens in Barcelona.

• Flu Fighters Campaign. With the collaboration of Unión de Mútuas, GPO promotes the Flu Fighters Campaign yearly, establishing a medical team in the GPO offices.

• Aura Foundation. Since 2012, GPO Group collaborates with Aura Foundation, social entity devoted to social and employment inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities. GPO promotes the entity’s activities (draws, excursions, etc.) and voluntary donations.

• Santander Scholarship Programme. GPO cooperates with Banco Santander through its Scholarship Programme for university students, aimed at the development of internships.

• Speed Networking. Since 2014, GPO cooperates with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia through the Speed Networking Programme, a meeting format between engineering companies and students of the Industrial Engineering School. The aim of the programme is to introduce the engineering business world to the students and to ease their access into the labor market.

BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIAExtension and Renovation of the El Dorado International Airport

GPO Colombia, GPO Group subsidiary company in Colombia, is leading the consortium awarded with the Detailed Design for the extension of the El Dorado International Airport in Bogota, one of the most important in Latin America, with more than 300.000 operations a year and a passenger flow that exceeded 27 million passengers in 2014.

The airport is located 15 km to the West of Bogotá center, in Fontibón, and it covers an approximate surface area of 6,9 km2. The passenger demand allowed the construction of a more modern airport with higher capacity, both for commercial and freight flights.

The concessionaire company OPAIN has trusted GPO to carry out the design of the new terminal with a surface of more than 62.000 m2 and 70.000 m2 of parking and maneuvering areas, which will be developed in this second phase of extension and renovation of the airport, that will increase its operative surface by 35%.

BARCELONA, SPAINExtension and Renovation of the Casa Camper Hotel

GPO Ingeniería y Arquitectura, Spanish subsidiary of GPO Group, has developed the Project Management services for the extension and renovation of the Casa Camper Hotel in Barcelona, an emblematic hotel located in the centric neighborhood of Raval.

The Casa Camper Hotel, with 40 rooms in minimalist design, is one of the main boutique hotels in Barcelona. The building, from the XIX century, has been restored by the architect Jordi Tió and designed by Ferrán Amat. Besides, the hotel has a water management system, that shows the commitment of Camper with the environment: the water from shower and bath uses is cleaned through a recycling system based on biomechanical processes and it is reused for the toilet. This system reduces water consumption by 50% and contributes preserving this natural resource. Casa Camper also uses solar energy to heat water.

The project also includes the structural consolidation of the building next to the hotel, constructed in 1881, to transform it into 15 hotel suites. Likewise, it comprises the renovation of the existing hotel and the connection of both buildings, modifying the original elevators to double-decks and connecting both terraces.

Sam Schwartz, North American subsidiary of GPO Group, has carried out the Feasibility Study for the implementation of the new streetcar, which includes the Preliminary Design, Environmental Impact Assessment, analysis of the available technologies and agency coordination.

The new streetcar system, which will run at 20 km/h, will join Red Hook (in the South) and Astoria (in the North), and it also includes a branch line that will join Dumbo and the center of Brooklyn. The new

infrastructure will run from Greenpoint to Dumbo in approximately 27 minutes, less than the current bus and metro lines, and it will carry 150 to 175 passengers, compared to the articulated buses that now have room for about 100 passengers.

The construction of the line is expected to cost around 2.500 M$ to the city, an investment that, according to the mayoral spokesman, will be paid out of real estate taxes on large residential and commercial owners served by the streetcar.

In order to improve the transportation between the districts of Brooklyn and Queens, Bill de Blasio, current mayor of New York city, is set to propose the construction of a 25 km long streetcar

line, which will join the two districts through a tramway line running parallel to the East River coast of New York.

GPO led the consortium made up of IDIADA and the Italian company APICOM to carry out the design of an R&D Center for the largest Indian manufacturer of motorcycles, HERO MotoCorp Ltd, with a total investment of 114 M€.

Based in the town of Kukas, close to Jaipur (Rajasthan), the new technical center has an extension of 95 ha, where there are office buildings, a design center and laboratories, and a great test track facility. The built area is 30.000 m2, whose architectural design was developed by the North American studio William McDonough & Partners. The scope of services provided by GPO consisted of developing the engineering work required for

the design and construction of the laboratories, test cells, energy and fluids supply, proving ground, etc. and the Detailed Design for the test track facility. The R&D center has the following facilities:

• Office building.• Design, style and prototypes center.• Test facilities for the development of engines

and vehicles with emission test benches, brakes, noise, material - test rings, climate chambers, benchmarking, etc.

• Test tracks for endurance, high speed, gradients, braking, noise, etc.

• Power plant, electric and fluids circuits.• Parking and common areas.

The section Orihuela – Colada de la Buena Vida is part of the Madrid - Levante High Speed Railway Line, more precisely the Alicante - Murcia section. It is 6,7 km long, and it includes the undergrounding works of the Orihuela station. The main determinants that defined the general characteristics of the project were the urban condition of the section and the requirement of providing hydraulic permeability, since the section is very close to the Segura river.

The project also included the construction of four viaducts to overpass the existing infrastructures and the Segura river, three flyovers, walls, and multiple drainage works to provide hydraulic permeability.

The Madrid - Levante High Speed Railway Line connects Madrid, the Valencian Community and the region of Murcia, both in the Spanish Mediterranean coast. The total length of the lines comprising this railway access is 955 km, they imply an investment of 12.400 million Euros and it is estimated they are used by 3 million passengers a year. All lines are designed for high speed circulation (300 km/h) with international gauge.

The BRT system will be integrated into the non-motorized transportation through the implementation of bike lanes along the entire main line. The new urban design includes new accessible sidewalks and a landscape integration, which incorporates the well-known centenary mango trees, very typical from Belém.

Sistran, Brazilian subsidiary of GPO Group, has developed the Preliminary Designs for the Secretaria de Urbanismo - SEURB (Ministry of Urban Development of Belém do Pará) of the following BRT sections:

• From the center of Belém to the São Braz station. An 11 km long section with 16 intermediate stations.

• Icoaraci district. A 3,7 km long section with 9 intermediate stations.

Sistran has also developed the Detailed Designs for the BRT Belém consortium of:

• Augusto Montenegro, including the Mangueirão, Tapanã and Maracacuera terminals and 11 intermediate stations. A 14 km long section.

• Mangueirão terminal, 2,7 km long.

The local government of Belém do Pará, North Brazil, is developing the implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, a bus-based mass transit system. The aim of the project is to increase central circulation of Almirante Barrosso, Augusto Montenegro and Centenario Avenues, and later connect them to the Icoracai district and the center of Belém. These lanes will be 5,5 km long and it is estimated they will be used by around a million passengers.

One of the central lanes will be exclusive for the BRT system, as well as some areas in the center of Belém, such as intermediate stations and passing lanes. Three terminals will be constructed to enable the transfer between main and secondary lines, as well as some stations with embarking/disembarking platforms and areas for advance purchase of tickets. The buses operating in the main lines will be articulated, and those operating in secondary lines will be simple.

The aim of the Preliminary Design for Trenes Argentinos – Operadora Ferroviaria was the definition of the geometric and functional designs for the new Mitre Line rail yard in the Retiro Station, preventing the works from affecting platforms and the rest of the railway facility. The project also includes the substitution of the wooden sleepers by concrete sleepers, the implementation of the new rail UIC54, as well as slab tracks under the cover and in the platforms.

Likewise, the project defined the construction plan in detail and the provisional situations to prevent affecting the operating lines. The Preliminary Design comprised also the electrification with an aluminum third rail, as well as the signaling and communication systems for the new configuration.

The project is carried out in such detail to allow the works to be bidden though the “Design and Build” system.

The Retiro Station is in the center of Buenos Aires. It is the terminal of the well-known Mitre Line with 11 tracks for commuter rails and 390 daily circulations.

The Retiro Station was constructed in 1915, and ever since no significant investments have been made to renovate the infrastructure.
