  • SIEMENSReleasesThis document concerns the serial connection ("F" interface) to hiT 7070 and 7050 releases

    1.02 1.1 2.0

    NOTE: Release 1.0 of hiT 7050 does not provide "F" interface support.

    SymptomsIn some cases it is not possible to connect from TNMS-CT 2.0 or higher to Surpass hiT 7070/7050 using the serial line.

    Problem Description

    Surpass 7050 serial cableThe serial cable used to connect to Surpass hiT 7050 must have a particular pin assignment. Some commercially available "null-modem" cables will work and others will not work, depending on the pin connection of the cable.

    WorkaroundUse a serial "null-modem" cable that has only pins 2 and 3 (RX and TX) connected (cross), and pin 5 for ground. All other pins are not connected, as shown in the diagram below:

    There have also been successful tests for serial connection to hiT using a commercial "Lindy" brand cable.The ordering number from Lindy for this cable is 31578.

    Pins 4 and 9 are not connected. The connections are shown in the diagram below:

    Appendix: Setting up the serial connection.

    Procedure from User Manual

    Attached the procedure extracted from the TNMS-CT V1.0 User Manual (UMN) Chapter 3.6.1.

    chapter361.doc

    If the serial connection in TNMS-CT is already set, check that it is properly configured by comparing the settings shown in the user manual in point 7 of chapter 3.6.1 (see the screenshots in the document attached above).

    If the serial connection does not work (fails when trying to connect), it is also recommendable to check the following:

    From the main TNMS-CT menu choose

    Configuration -> DCN management

    In this window the first item is the Serial Line Server. Clicking on the server icon displays the four Serial Line Server Channels that are available in TNMS-CT. hiT 7070 and 7050 are QST V2 Network Elements.

    Here the NE ("QST V2 Serial Line NE") must exist under the QST V2 Serial Line Channel, as shown in the figure above.
