Dear Parishioners,

This Sunday we celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity. It is our faith that we believe in one God, three divine persons. This is a mystery. Our minds can not comprehend such a mystery. One result of this feast is to make us humble. We cannot understand or explain everything of what we believe, that is why we say I believe. Our finite minds cannot grasp the infinite. It is like going to the beach with a pail and trying to bring home the ocean. We can only take so much.

Unfortunately, we tend to be a bit arrogant. Instead of living in a humble, submissive relationship with God, we live as though we are above God. Look how as a society we blatantly change the laws of God, we make what is good evil which is offensive to God. How often do we personally live lives in opposition to the ways of God, thinking that we know it all. If I cannot comprehend the mysteries of God, if I cannot even give myself the gift of life, it would be good for me to have a good dose of humility and acknowledge that God knows best and be dependent upon Him. We read in James 4:6,10 - “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves before the Lord and He will exalt you.”

On May 10, Leonard Duggan passed away. He was a long time parishioner who contributed much to this parish. He was a member of both the school and parish finance committees. He was a real guardian of the parish finances. He worked for many pastors and I publicly want to express my appreciation for the behind the scene work he did for the parish. He will be missed by many, especially the parish staff. His mantra was, we need a balanced budget and to have money put away for a rainy day fund.

Msgr. Paul Russell, who was a deacon in the parish in 1987, will be ordained a bishop on Friday, June 3, 2016. He will be the pope’s representative in Turkey. He will be celebrating his first Mass as a bishop on Saturday, June 4, at the 4pm Mass. This parish is special for him for he celebrated his first Mass and his 25th Anniversary. We celebrate his ordination and look forward to his visit with us on Saturday, June 4.

I will be available for confessions on Tuesday, May 24, from 3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.

God love you,

Immaculate Conception to Christ the King

Please place this page on your refrigerator for this week’s reflection:

"The pages of the prophet Isaiah can also be meditated upon concretely during this season of prayer, fasting, and works of charity: “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, here I am. If you take away from the midst of you the yoke, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your desire with good things, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters fail not” (58:6-11)." ~ Pope Francis

These words refer to the Season of Lent but they are applicable to the daily life of the Christian. Pope Leo the Great said that the "Lenten Season is the Ordinary Season of the Christian." As we look back on these past months of the Holy Year, we can ask if we have seen the Holy Year of Mercy as our ordinary way of life.

LITURGY CORNERLITURGY CORNERLITURGY CORNERLITURGY CORNER

Trinity Sunday falls one week a1er Pentecost

Sunday, and it is the day that the Catholic Church

has set aside to honor the most fundamental of

Chris2an beliefs—the Holy Trinity.

To stress the doctrine of the Trinity, other Fathers

of the Church, such as St. Ephrem the Syrian,

composed prayers and hymns that were recited in

the Church's liturgies and on Sundays as part of

the Divine Office, the official prayer of the Church.

Eventually, a special version of this office began to

be celebrated on the Sunday a1er Pentecost, and

the Church in England, at the request of St.

Thomas à Becket (1118-1170), was granted

permission to celebrate Trinity Sunday. The

celebra2on of Trinity Sunday was made universal

by Pope John XXII (1316-34). As Fr. John Hardon

points out in his Modern Catholic Diconary, the

origins of the celebra2on of Trinity Sunday go all

the way back to the Arian heresy of the fourth

century. Arius believed that Christ was a created

being, and in denying the divinity of Christ, he

denied that there are three Persons in God. Arius'

chief opponent, Athanasius, upheld the orthodox

doctrine that there are three Persons in one God,

and the orthodox view prevailed at the Council of

Nicaea, from which we get the Nicene Creed,

recited in most Chris2an churches every Sunday.
