The transmission of ideas and knowledge to others is the goal set for each student in the School of Education. How well one under­stands and uses the learning process determines to a great degree the progress of ideas and achievement in ollr constantly changing en­vironment. Through his learning of methods and theories of teaching others to think, rea­son, draw conclusions, and learn, the student in the School of Education prepares for a role of undeniable importance in society.

Student teachers find that practice teaching- can be fun in addition to offering opportunities to apply techniques learned in education courses.

Mr. B. Mack Hearne conducts extra rehearsals for ag-gressive music students who are inter­ested in improving their talents and abilities.

The campus comes alive during orienta­tion week as upperclassmen return and re­fresh memories, and freshmen arrive to make their place in college life and plot their fu­ture. A steady parade of boxes, suitcases and other "absolute essentials" from home gives way to individualizing dorm rooms, bull sessions and participation in planned activi­ties. The student familiarizes himself with routines and the campus, which hurl numer­ous new faces and ideas toward him, only a few of which he will remember as most will remain donnant for future awa)(ening and consideration.

An ideal fall weekend and many colorful displays set the stage for Homecoming, which brought a whirl of Thursday, Friday and Saturday activities for the Indians and their alumni guests. Red eyes and nodding heads. dominated the scene Saturday morning as organization members put those last min­ute touches on floats, cars and houses. Cap­ping the weekend, after the football game against the SLC Lions, was the annual Homecoming dance, where Cheryl McDonald reigned as queen.

Excitement and suspense l'eign as Judy Cluchey is crowned 1966 Mardi Gl'as Queen.

Phi Delta Chi pharmaceutical fraternity hosts Northeast's own Mardi Gras Ball. This high spot of the spring semester is ruled over by a court of five girls selected by students from the campus nominees. From these five finalists, the members of Phi Delta Chi choose the Mardi Gras Queen. Student participa­tion is encouraged by the presentation of prizes given for the most originally dressed group, couple and individual. Queen Judy Cluchey and her court reigned over this gala affair, the fourth annual Mardi Gras Ball.

Mr. and Mrs. Abe Lincoln capture the Queen Judy and Phi Delta Chi President Bob"Most Original Couple" award. Ward lead off the first dance at the Ball. Tbeme of the Ball was "Mal'di Gras in the Vieux Carre."

Costumes ranging from the Orient to our own Wild West were seen as students attend one of the most popula.r spring activities, the Mardi Gras Ball.

Go West Day, sponsored by the Phys­ical Education Major-Minor Club, has proved a popular spring activity for the Northeast Indians. The spirit of the "Good Ole West" was revived by appropriately dressed students. Enforcing the edict about western clothes was our own sheriff and his posse. Violators were jailed in the NLSC City Jail and fined for their offense. Entertainment was provided at the North­east Long Branch and at the GmIby Cor­ral. A western dinner and square dancing climaxed the day's activities. Go \Vest Day, now in its third year, has become another tradition of campus life.

Even the cashier at the CUB Long Branch turned out in western attire for the day long celebration.

Northeast students have the opportunity of seeing and hearing nationally renowned performers and groups in the Northeast State Con­certs Association series. On the agenda this season was Fred Waring and His Pennsylvanians, "The Music of Richard Rodgers," Jose Iturbi, Carlos Montoya, the Les Feux-Fol­lets, and the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra. Our own SGA, in seeking to provide a wide variety of enter­tainment, presented Jay and the Americans, The Lettermen and the Town Criers in Brown Auditorium.
