"You have within yourself universal obedience, [...] Against the strong and harmful assaults of the flesh, our particular enemy here below, we have its adversary Holy Chastity, continual prayer, fasting cold and bare feet, close guard of the senses, holy silence, chapter, correction, meditation, tears, sighs, regular discipline, the Divine Office, sacred Scripture, holy Mass, the sweet partaking of the precious Body of Jesus Christ, purity of heart, right instruction, the remembrance of death, the cross, the passion, the sight of the cemetery, the faithful guardianship of your good angel, the fidelity loyally promised to your dear Spouse, the hope of eternal reward - and the thought of the terrible punishment of those who will have merited other-wise. Be gone then, away with you, foolish and rebellious flesh, [...]; you who seek to lure us from the way of perfection, bringing shameful death and perdition. Be led by Lady Holy Grace as her servant, and by wise rea-son, for your profit and, ultimately, your glory. Sin passes away swiftly and its punishment is unending; peni-tence is short, but its ending will be your eternal glory. (Testament of St. Colette) St. Colette looks at every aspect of the nun's life and emphasizes all the good in their behavior and lives that will lead them to God. I like her list of all that is positive. Sometimes we have the tendency to cre-ate a list of the negative aspects of our lives. She starts with the positive and says if we do these things then we are with God. Later, she mentions the things that they need to be aware of and avoid. Before we are able to eliminate something from our lives we need to know what will replace it. Life doesn't want to be emp-ty. How and with what are we going to fill it? Holy Spirit, help us! We are getting ready to fix the roof over the school building. The Maintenance Committee together with the diocese chose one of the contractors. The cost of the roof will be $225,000. Thanks to your gener-osity, we have already collected $140,000. We are short by $85,000. The roof over that building is part of the To Teach Who Christ Is complaint. I know your generosity. I know it will get done. I'm working with some people in the diocese to help get some of the money from them for this project. We will see what we can do. Our fiscal books for last year are closed. I will send the information to our Finance Committee. In No-vember, we will provide the information to you. During this month of October, I think more about life. I'm scandalized by the Governor of our State for signing the bill that will use our tax money to pay for abortion. This is evil and I do not want to participate in it. We need to write to our state representatives to change this unjust and terrible law. I know that good will win. It is just a question of time. Our dinner dance was a big success. Many parishioners attended. I am thankful to the organizers, the Parish Pastoral Council, for their time and dedication to this project.

Pax,

Fr. Michal Lewon Pastor

NOVEMBER 4: CENTERING PRAYER WORKSHOP

Professor David Belcastro will be one of four featured ses-sion-leaders at the sixth annual One-Day Fall Workshop sponsored by Contemplative Outreach – Chicago on Satur-day November 4 at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. Prof. Belcastro’s session will focus on Thomas Merton’s in-terest in Yoga Philosophy and Practice, which eventually led to his pilgrimage to Mahabalipuram and his last poem, enti-tled “The Kandy Express.” In addition, the session will in-clude an introduction to yoga meditation, as Dr. Belcastro believes Merton understood it. About his plans for the work-shop session, Prof. Belcastro says, “We will gain insight into an approach to spiritual formation that integrates body, mind and soul; the individual person with the Hidden Ground of Love; and social action and contemplative vision.” Prof. Belcastro is Professor Emeritus at Capital University Department of Religion and Philosophy, Adjunct Professor of Theology in Ohio Dominican University’s Graduate Pro-gram, and Yoga Philosophy and Practice teacher at Marian Correctional Institution. He is a past President of the Inter-national Thomas Merton Society and Editor of The Merton Annual. He has authored numerous publications and presen-tations on Merton, Albert Camus and Czelaw Milosz, and holds a PhD from University of St. Andrews, Scotland in Pa-tristic Studies. Other workshop sessions will be offered on sacred chant, Taize spirituality, and the Perennial Wisdom. Alternatively, attendees may choose to participate in an all-day, in-depth introductory session on the practice of Center-ing Prayer. Complete information on the One-Day Fall Workshop is available at http://centeringprayerchicago.org/events/annual-fall-one-day-workshop-2/ or contact [email protected] or call 847-698-5298.

We need your support. Our food pantry is "hungry" for more donations. So check your kitchen cabinets and

pantry. Even just one non-perishable item will do.

Together all these items can make a difference for our

needy parishioners.

Necesitamos su apoyo. Nuestra despensa está "hambrienta" por más

donaciones. Así que revisa sus gabinetes y cocina. Incluso

solo una donacion no perecedero hará una gran

diferencia. Juntos, todos estos donacionesvpueden marcar la

Oct. 23rd - St. John Capistrano (d. 1456)

Great Franciscan preacher. Patron of military chaplains and jurists. He studied law, was married and became governor of Perugia, Italy. He was imprisoned during the civil war and had a vision of St. Francis. After being liberated, he separated from his wife and joined the Franciscans and was ordained a priest. His idea of reforming was by reforming one's own life

Oct. 24th - St. Anthony Claret (d. 1870)

Diocesan priest who became the founder of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. His community worked among the sick, in education and printing books. He was involved in science and founded la-boratories and museums. He helped artists, writers and musicians. Claret became archbishop of Santiago, Cuba.

Oct. 28th - Sts. Simon and Jude Apostles.

St. Simon was called "Cananean" which in Aramaic means Zealot." He worked as a missionary in Egypt and Persia. His relics are in the Basilica of St. Peter's in Rome. St. Jude is a patron saint of hopeless causes and hospitals. He did his missionary work in Mesopotamia and Persia. He was confused with Judas who betrayed Jesus. This is one of the reasons why he became the patron of hopeless causes.

23 de octubre - San Juan Capistrano (d. 1456)

Gran predicador franciscano.

Welcome to Online Giving!

Introducing...GiveCentral!

St. Colette Parish has begun accepting online donations through GiveCentral, our new online

donation service. GiveCentral is a safe, secure, and paperless way to make your Sunday offertory and

other contributions.

It was designed specifically for Catholic churches and schools in the Chicago area, and many other par-ishes in our Diocese have already found success with

it. The site allows you to make a one time or auto-matically repeating payments on a schedule that

works best for you, using any credit card, debit card or electronic bank account.

We believe that having a flexible online giving option will make it easier for many of you

to support St. Colette. Visit our website at www.stcolette.org and click on

the “GiveCentral” link or go to www.GiveCentral.org

and take a couple minutes to set up your donations. Questions? Please call the Parish Office

at 847-394-8100.

Mission Statement We, the faith community of St. Colette, in proclaiming the truth of the Gospel are committed to follow Jesus Christ by being ”the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world”. By our Baptism we are called to serve people of all cultures, migrants, and those who have no voice of their own; our born and unborn children; victims of violence, and the impoverished. Empowered by the Holy Spirit and nurtured by the Eu-charist, we are led to promote human dignity and justice for all people. We believe that this is the way the Lord is calling us to be a sign of His kingdom in this time and place.
