391930 Decided improvement has been noticed all through the business section of the city today in the manner in which people observe the city traffic ordinance as a result of stationing an officer at the Case corner yesterday, said the chief of the police department this morning, and he believes that the ordinance can be enforced until people become more used to it, without the necessity of any trouble. Although no officer is specially delegated to any one corner today, watch is being kept on all corners of the city with a view to getting the custom of turning on the right side of the street established. Chief Jones says he has warned several persons for the last time, and will begin making arrests, if any repeat the offense, but on the whole everyone is complying with the traffic law. Competing against students in senior high school English classes, Miss Ione Chapin was declared the winner yesterday in the essay contest sponsored by the Codington county Public Health association on the subject, "How To Keep Tuberculosis Out of the High School." Following reading of the essays, judges gave second place to James McBath with John Mackenzie awarded third and Lois Brenner fourth. Cash prizes of $4, $3, $2 and $1 respectively went to the four winners. Miss Chapin's winning essay will be entered in competition with those by students in other schools in a statewide contest conducted annually by the South Dakota Public Health association. Following selection of the six best essays, winners will broadcast them late in December. Judges in the local contest were J.E. Messer, Miss Hazel DeToy and the Rev. O.C. Hanson. Monday Music Club met in the home of Mrs. Don Fossey with Mrs. Robert Davis as co-hostess. Nineteen members and one guest, Eugene Doutt, were present. New members welcomed were Mary Meierhofer, Mrs. Launda Carroll and Mrs. Velma Johnshoy. Mrs. Glen Paterson, program chairman, introduced the program. Mrs. Don Fossey played organ selections by the Broadway composers George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Vincent Youman, Victor Herbert and Sigmund Romberg. She also played piano solos, "Kitten On the Keys" by Zez Confrey, and "Russian Dance" by Engelmann. Mrs. Stan Rishoi played three movements from "Sonata I in C" by W.A. Mozart on the piano. Eugene Doutt gave a presentation on pipe organs explaining how they are made and how the different sounds are made. Sports Digest- Arlington- Hamlin senior Elisa Cyre and Arlington junior Tracy Nemitz have been named to the all-Lake Central Conference girls basketball team for the third straight year. Repeat selections from last year include De Smet senior Brandy Warne and Arlington junior Jen Tuttle. Other selections include senior Cathy Roeder and junior Jami Kretchmer of De Smet, senior Jackie Weelborg and junior Stacey Taschner of Hamlin, senior Anjelik Gries and sophomore Leah Bakke of Sioux Valley, and junior Carmen Jaeger of Deuel. - Worthington, Minn.- Former Henry High School athlete Daniel Rorvick has wrapped up his two-year football career for Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Worthington, Minn.
