Increasing relevance of waste as a resource especially for energy production due to rising energy costs Waste management and energy sector are growing together (RDF, biomass, anaerobic digestion, subsidies for renewable energy, renewable fuel, energy crops)

Anaerobic digestion is a key technology particularly for the biodegradable waste components

High potential for waste management in many EU states due to EC regulations in place (EU landfill directive, Biomass action plan 2006)

Bio-waste treatment in Germany is currently changing towards the use of the energy content (AD, separation of woody material for combustion)

Public entities are currently the focus/target clients for IGW´s biomass activities (flag ship projects: biomass guidance; biomass potential studies)
