A reflection : 19 December 2004 was the day the residents of Lorong Terasek Kanan

lost in their protests against commercial development on the piece of vacant land

    fronting their houses.

The residents of Lorong Terasek Kanan including some from the Bangsar Business

Council were invited to a meeting with Lembah Pantai MP Dato Sharizat at her office;the director of Makibra Services Sdn Bhd (Developer) was also present and so was Datuk

George Joseph (Bangsar Baru Residents Association President).

Well now the picture looks like everyone was in a happy mood. I think the residents weredistracted into having a tea session with the MP who were sympathetic to what was

happening at the vacant residential land and being the friendly MP that she was, I think

for that short period the residents were de-stressed to an extent. In reality nothing goodcame out of the meeting; the residents lost the fight and the developer bull-dozed

    development onto the land.

Prior to the meeting, the MP went over to the site in Bangsar Baru to see the situation in

place. Ng Tee Heng (one of the affected resident) briefed the MP as one of the other

directors of Makibra Services Sdn Bhd stood by in silence.

Datuk George was sympathetic to the residents woes but took the stand that the

association opined that it was solely the residents personal fight for justice.

It was quite shocking to see the speed with which the clearing of the land, refencing and

piling works were carried out. Its a wonder whether MP already knew it was a lost casefor the residents before going to the site.

The guy next to MP is the director of Makibra Services Sdn Bhd, developer. He was quiet

all the way, knowing that there is no stopping the development. So silence is golden asthere were too many unhappy residents around.

Lorong Terasek Kanan has become the backdoor to the commercial development on

vacant bungalow land. Approval for development came from higher up in authority; who

    the residents do not know.
