Hello Fairview Mennonite Home, My name is Chris Brissette, Director of Building Services for Fairview and Parkwood Mennonite homes. Although I have only been here for a short time, I can see this is a very caring, friendly, happy home that makes everyone feel like family. Everyone has been very welcoming and kind to me, and you have made it a very easy transition. Thank you for making me feel welcome. I would like to share some of my background with you. I grew up in Conestogo, and currently live in Wellesley with my wife of 23 years. We were married in the Elmira Mennonite Church. We have two grown children and one grandson. I attended Elmira District Secondary School and after graduating with my concentration in the trades, I went on to Fanshawe College and completed my Auto Body and Collision Trade certificate. I achieved body shop and parts manager in a very busy collision centre. I specialized in antique car restoration and I still continue to restore cars as a hobby in my free time.

I decided to go back to Conestoga College to complete my Industrial Millwright Mechanic trade certificate. I worked as contractor and advanced to Project manager. After years on the road, I changed to a millwright position in a Magna facility, performing maintenance to machines, equipment and all aspects of the building. I began looking for a position that I could use my skills and feel good about the work I was doing, and I feel working in a Seniors community is very rewarding. I look forward to a long rewarding career at Fairview and Parkwood Mennonite homes. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, fishing, antique car cruise nights and going on motorcycle trips. Now that you know some things about me, I look forward to getting to know you, having great conversations, and addressing your concerns or issues that may arise.

- Chris Brissette, Director of Building Services

Welcome Chris Brissette! Director of Building Services

Once again, the winter was a very festive and cheerful time here at Fairview with plenty of fun and exciting activities filling our calendars and bringing our community together. Wonderful music filled our halls with joy as choirs sang and instruments played. Many came together at our annual tenant banquet where we enjoyed delicious food and were entertained by another fantastic choir. The carefully decorated Christmas trees brought joy and happiness to all, as did the large village display in our display case which wowed many as they passed by. Fairview always has a way of reminding us what Christmas is truly about and brining our community together to reminisce and share in the festivities. Fairview was also pleased to host our Health and Wellness Fair on Friday January 25th which featured over 30 exhibitors and offered health clinics, knowledgeable speakers, and delicious snacks followed by a healthy light lunch. The Fair was well received by many and it was great to see so many community members attend to learn more about important health topics and take advantage of the fantastic clinics and information available. Despite the bad weather, the Valentine’s Sale spread love and brought wonderful crafts and treats to us from our reception area. Thank you to all who assisted in the craft room to bring the spirit of Valentine’s Day to Fairview, We are now looking forward to our Easter Craft sale (April 17th-April 22nd) which is keeping the craft room busy. Seeing such talent and dedication in the craft room truly amazes me every time I drop in for a visit. Keep up the amazing work ladies and gentleman, you are one group of extraordinary folks! The craft appreciation dinner was a great afternoon reflecting on the successes of the past Handicraft Sale we held in November. Tasty Chinese food followed by warm apple pie and ice cream added to the share in laughs and companionship. Hazel W. was the lucky recipient of the grand prize basket after guessing the closest number to the gross profits made from the Handicraft Sale. Congratulations to Hazel, and thank you again to all who contributed to the sale. I feel truly blessed to have met such wonderful people during my time working in the Centre as Sarah is away on maternity leave with her beautiful new baby girl. Thank you to everyone who has made me feel so welcome. I truly look forward to taking part in more wonderful programs here at Fairview and learning more about the amazing people who live here. - Victoria Adshade, Health & Wellness Coordinator

The Craft Room is Open: Tuesdays from 1:30-4:30 Thursdays From 10:00 - 11:30 & 1:30 - 4:30 The craft room is closed from 11:30-12:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays to allow staff time to prepare for the afternoon class session. All residents are welcome to attend and bring craft ideas! Not all tasks take the full craft time - residents are encouraged to enjoy chatting with friends and take their time with the completion of the assigned craft task.

Craft Room

The mayhem has started for 2019, everyone is very eager sorting, organizing and filing under G. Lois did a fabulous job keeping the craft room running smoothly while Heather was touring Italy with her family. Upon Heather’s return the hearts came flying out in preparation for our Valentines sale, which was well received and manned faithfully by a team of our craft ladies. On February 7

th we had the craft appreciation dinner with Chinese food and warm apple pie!

All leftover food was donated to the Bridges. Several door prizes were awarded, including a gift basket from iPharm which went to Hazel Wismer. Thank you to all those who contributed to the success of our 2018 Handicraft Sale which brought in $12 031.53! This money will go back into the craft room program to keep us well stocked and crafting into the future. Beginner knitting and crocheting classes begin March 28

th in Craft room 2 at 9:30am; come

and see what you can create, all abilities welcome! This is a great way to refresh your skills or

create new ones.

-Heather Congdon, Crafts Coordinator

Centre Dining Room

As you are aware, on December 1, 2018 the service fee for preparing/delivering (by food service staff) a meal tray in independent living changed to $7.00 per tray. The payment of $7.00 needs to be paid to food service staff at time of delivery and a request for a tray needs to follow the guidelines underlined below. Having a friend or family member deliver a tray (for which there is no delivery charge) does not mean that you can order a tray if you have a sore foot or a medical appointment and will be late getting back, etc. Trays can be provided for up to 5 consecutive days if a tenant has a gastrointestinal illness (vomiting/diarrhea), respiratory illness (fever, cough, etc.) or, if a tenant returns from a hospital stay or has a sudden onset of serious health concerns and is under the care/direction of a physician. It is expected that 5 days gives the family adequate time to make more permanent arrangements should that be required (example – Meals on Wheels, Heart to Home Meals, etc.). Tray service is only available when dining room is open (daily at noon and Monday through Thursday at 5:00 p.m.) and is based on regular menu on that day.
