Ss read the definitions of cause and effect suggested on p, 42. Then, T elicits information from Ss about the meaning and difference between “cause” and “effect”. A cause is something that makes something else happen. To know the cause, we ask the question “why did it happen?” (cause = reason) An effect is what happens as a result of the cause. To know the effect, we ask the question “what happened?” (effect = result = consequence) T elicits and explains the form and uses of a set of linking words to express cause.
