CHURCH AND CEMETARY RECORDS-STOUT ARC (GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY OF UTAH PROJECT) 1861-1979. 25 reels of positive microfilm.

Records of 8 churches and cemeteries from Pepin County Wisconsin. The churches represent the Methodist, Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist, Lutheran, Reformed and Episcopal denominations. Their records usually include baptismal, marriage, burial, confirmation, communion, probationers, class, official membership, and historical records as well as lists of pastors and members. The records of the cemeteries often include plot locations, names of owners and interred, maps of the cemeteries, lists of the tombstones, and lists of the persons buried.

The researcher will confront certain difficulties when examining this collection. The church and cemetery records were filmed in no particular order except within each church. Many church records were not identified and it was with considerable difficulty that these records were identified and the location of the church ascertained. A large percentage of the records are in German, Norwegian o other Scandinavian Language, and Latin.

These records were filmed as part of a cooperative project between the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin-Stout Area Research Center, and the Genealogical Society of Utah. The records were loaned for filming by their owners and subsequently returned to the lenders.

The index that follows is arranged alphabetically by county; and there under alphabetically by town. Cities and villages were identified under the town where they are located. Churches which were part of a circuit covering many towns are identified under each town which they covered if that is known. The index is followed by a reel list showing the contents of each reel of microfilm. The reel list details what records are actually available for each church and cemetery as well as provide information about church mergers, etc.
