Background

Also, “1840” it wants pay tribute to the big histories and prominent figures of the 19th century,

and to the fantastic myths and legends that have come to our days reinvented in many cases by

the Victorian authors. So, we have references to the works of Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins,

the sisters Brontë, ect, and in the graphic part, reminiscences of Whistler or Turner, and other

sources(fountains) of inspiration as the photography of beginning of the XXth

2. THE PRODUCT:

Development

"1840" it’s basically a webcómic; we think that nowadays we live through a process of change of

paradigm that causes the appearance of new formats. Inspired by the feuilletons and "Penny

Dreadfull" of the 19th century, the history appears in small deliveries that are lodged in the

platform ISSU and announced in blogs and social networks (the blog "1840", personal blogs of

the authors, Facebook, Picassa, etc.) It to consists of five plot parts, composed of approximately

11 deliveries each one.

The digital edition offers an added value: one can offer great quantity of transverse content to

the work (historical, literary contents, plastic arts, etc of the Victorian England and of the

imaginary traditional fantastic); and the presence in the network supposes a new form of

distribution and marketing that allows to come to a great number of public of different origin.

Format

For the digital publication and for his edition in paper, the format chosen to support the

parallelism with "Penny Dreadfull" is the comic-book: each episode would count of 22 pages of

emblems more a statement illustrated as complement of 4 pages, adding a whole of 26 pages.

Other practical questions for the election of this format are:

- Price lower than others, for his(her, your) dimensions and his(her, your) characteristics

- His reading is more practical in urban environments - to read in the underground, bus,

etc-. Also in his digital version it would facilitate his unload in mobiles, i-pod, ect.

- His cost of printin), more economic, allow a major periodicity and therefore a major

loyalty of the readers - this also is applicable to the digital version-

Page 4: 1840 Dossier english

So,the work also is thinking to adapt to other formats like they are:

- The European album: Two comic books would form an album of 44 pages, more two of

statements illustrated as complement.

- - The Italian fumetti: 4 comic book would give a fumetti of 88 pages of history more 6

pages of statements illustrated as complement. In this case there would no be

disadvantage of editing the work in scale of gray, since it’s habitual in the fumetti, since

the author of the pages has versions realized in scale of gray of the same ones.
