Newcastle High School for Girls
June 2014
All Weather Pitch and Athletics Details The site
The proposal for an all-weather pitch and associated athletics facilities is located on the intake Number 10 on the Town Moor, close to the site of the new Senior School facilities on Tankerville terrace.
The Facilities
It is impossible to exaggerate the positive impact that creating an all-weather surface will have on the teaching of sport in our school.
In addition to the taught curriculum, we provide opportunities for girls to play sport before school, at lunchtime and in the evenings; the enhanced provision that an all-weather surface
would offer is very significant and the opportunity to play on all-weather will encourage even mere girls to participate in a variety of sports including athletics.
The health benefits to girls are huge, raising their overall wellbeing.
The proposed provision includes:
• Hockey pitch, with integral 200m/6 lane
training circuit and 100m/6 lane straight.
• Long and triple jump training strip
• Javelin throw
• Shot throw
• Discus throw
The training areas will be used simultaneously
by different groups for different activities. The facilities are designed with supervision and control in mind. A detailed management plan will be produced to ensure an effective and safe use of the site.
De-mountable fence
To protect the integrity of the all-weather pitch and to prevent the ball escaping from the
playing surface, a 1.2m high de-mountable fence (green) will be installed around the hockey pitch.
