At Cargo Public School, we value the learning of every student, and the best interests of your children are at the heart of all we do. We started this term in a most unusual way, but I'm glad to say that the students have all settled in beautifully to our school routines and we are all learning together. All classes concentrate on teaching English for the morning session, and Maths in the middle session each day. These are routine-based and allow stu-dents to practise and refine the skills they will need throughout their lives and careers. As teachers, our priority is always your children. The amount of time that is involved in preparing activities and tasks, organising and cleaning up after group work and supervising on the play-ground means that we are often stretched for time and trying to do several things at once. If you need to meet with myself or teachers, please contact Mandy in the office to make an appoint-ment. This means we will be able to put time aside so that we are only concentrating on the meeting and makes for a much more successful meeting as we can give you our full attention. We are always happy to meet with parents and carers by appointment. This week has also seen the introduction of our new rewards sys-tem – The Cargo Cattle Dog! Voted on by students on Monday, students will receive a ‘cattle dog card’ whenever staff see them working hard, being a great friend or helping out around the school. At the end of each week, 1 name will be picked to be our ‘Students of the Week’. Look out for our first ‘Student of the week’ in the next newsletter! Students are also collecting Cattle Dogs towards a whole class reward. Keep collecting kids!
Maths Term 3 From Term 3 there will be a change to the way in which Maths is taught. We will be moving away from the use of textbooks, and instead concentrate more on hands-on activi-ties, discussions and personalising learning to meet the needs of every student. Students will work in groups based on their current lev-el of understanding rather than their year group, and will move between groups. This will allow us to support and extend every stu-dent’s understanding.
Semester 1 Reports Mid-year reports will
be coming home in Week 10. Please note that due to COVID-19, these will look different from usual. There will be no A-E grading, and instead there will be 3 comment boxes, 1 each for English and Maths and 1 for the oth-er KLAs. We’re also asking all families for their input into the Learning from Home as-pect of Terms 1 and 2. Attached to the end of this newsletter is short checkbox. Please discuss the areas with your child, tick the most appropriate box and return to school (signed) by Wednesday 24th June. These will be included in our mid-year reports to acknowledge the enormous effort students, parents and carers put in to Learning from Home.

Cargo Public School loves learning! As well as the
students, our teachers value learning and we are
all continually aiming to improve our teaching. Our
teachers Miss Pearce & Miss Garlick, are currently
involved in professional learning aimed at linking
talking, reading and writing in the K-2 grades. On
Monday they participated in a state-wide video
conference, led by Dr Noella Mackenzie that ex-
plored the links between drawing and writing in
children up to eight years of age. This week, the
new 'Draw, Talk, Write, Share' activi-
ty implemented in the classroom was received
positively by the Infants students. As part of this,
with parent permission, student work samples will
be collected and shared with other teachers com-
pleting the same professional learning course. A
permission note was sent home earlier in the
week to parents regarding this, If you are happy
for your child's work samples to be shared, please
send the signed note back into Mandy.
NEW SCHOOL REWARDS
This week has also seen the introduc-tion of our new rewards system – The Cargo Cattle Dog! Voted on by students on Monday, students will receive a ‘cattle dog card’ whenever staff see them working hard, being a great friend or helping out around the school. At the end of each week, 1
name will be picked to be our ‘Students of the Week’. Look out for our first ‘Student of the week’ in the next newsletter! Students are also collecting Cattle Dogs towards a whole class

CHARLI
We also had a very special visitor last week – Miss Stone brought her dog Charli to school! She was very excited to meet all the kids, and was exhausted by the time she went home at lunch. I suspect the kids were too…

We’ve settled into a great routine in 3-6. Our new spelling sorts mean that every student is learning to spell words at the right level for them, and our Friday spelling test results have been great so far! Each student is able to state what the spelling rule is that they’re practising, and words range from pet to recklessness depending on the spelling level you’re at. We’re also concentrating on understanding what we read. Each day we get into our pairs and do ‘Partner Read and Think’. This allows us to practise our comprehension by discussing what we read with a partner, then writing a short summary. Finally, we learning to ‘Tighten Tension’ in our stories by focussing on what our character can see, hear, smell, taste and touch, and dis-cussing how our character feels. In Science and Geography we’re learning about sustainability, and how to reduce our waste.
Last week the Infants class were learning about proce-
dure writing. Last Friday we learnt how to make home-
made butter. We put cream, salt and some marbles into
jars, closed the lids tightly, and then shook the jars until
the cream separated into butter and buttermilk. We
made some fresh bread to spread our butter on. Deli-
cious!
We have been doing lots of hands-on activities to help us
develop our counting and number skills.
We are very excited that, with school continuing to re-
turn to normal, we are able to have Mrs Denham visiting
us again at school for our weekly Friday music lessons.
Cooking will resume week 5 on Wednesdays. Please pay your term 2 $10 per
child.
Chinese lessons are on Mondays at 11.30
Sport this term will be physical fitness on Fridays after lunch.
Term 3 will be 10 weeks of a range of fitness and games run by exergames

Music will now be at school on Fridays starting this week.

Parents and Community, Cargo P&C needs your help!
We are aiming to hold a wood raffle early in Term 3. We are currently seeking kind and gener-
ous volunteers to donate their time, energy and equipment in providing enough wood to fill a
trailer. Please note that we are raffling the wood, not the trailer!
If you can help, please contact a P&C member.
