Chairs’ Introduction The European Cancer Congress (ECC2015) is undoubtedly the largest European platform for presenting ground-breaking data to a global audience.
We are on a path where each Congress sets new records – ECC2011 in Stockholm and ECC2013 in Amsterdam both attracted record numbers of participants and submitted abstracts. ECC2013 in Amsterdam registered 16% growth in delegates and a massive 38% increase in the number of submitted abstracts compared to our event in Stockholm.
Our late-breaking submission policy is specially designed to ensure the Congress embraces all promising new developments to ensure a very advanced, forward-looking scientific programme. Topics of the greatest interest to a multidisciplinary audience are presented by the very experts who work on them.
The European Cancer Congress is now giving fresh impetus to its unique philosophy of collaborative innovation to improve outcomes and find new solutions to pressing issues. We have designed more integrated sessions bringing about dialogue and debate in overlapping areas of scientific research. The programme is therefore more streamlined, with fewer tracks, facilitating an even more productive experience for delegates.
The European Cancer Congress remains the only European cancer meeting with a dedicated Oncopolicy track. The Oncopolicy Forum in Amsterdam tackled topics including research, personalised medicine and care, organisation of specialised care, and translation of evidence into policy. The recommendations derived from these discussions will be revisited at the Oncopolicy Forum in Vienna in 2015.
Our Patient Advocacy Track will carry forward its work in highlighting key issues for patients and survivors and exploring partnerships with all stakeholders in the oncology community.
ECC2015 will again be the largest CME ACOE accredited event in Europe. In addition, we have enriched the programme with new elements over and above those of CME – we envisage unique mentorship opportunities and various other ways of enhancing knowledge and skills beyond the scientific programme.
There is a single aim behind all these efforts – to make the European Cancer Congress the most powerful of platforms for improving cancer care, outcomes and quality of life for all people with cancer.
This vision brought us to Vienna – a vibrant city and such a natural host of ECC2015. Vienna’s track record as a leader in medical thought and practice speaks for itself – its historic contribution has made its mark in key areas like radiotherapy, clinical diagnosis and public health to name a few.
We look forward to welcoming you to Vienna!

ECCO 18 - ESMO 40 - European Cancer Congress - PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT ECCO 18 - ESMO 40 - European Cancer Congress - PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT
Regular Abstract Submission Regular abstracts can be submitted from 26 January 2015 using our specific online process which will be accessible on www.europeancancercongress.org. Abstracts will only be accepted if submitted through this process.
Regular abstract submission will close on 28 April 2015, at 21:00 Central European Time. Presenting authors are advised to submit their abstracts before the day of the deadline to help ensure safe receipt.
The Scientific Committee strongly encourages the submission of abstracts on Phase I, Phase II and large Phase III trials coming to an end or having new data available mid 2015.
Please note: more information about abstract preparation, topic categories, submission, policy and regulations will be published in the Advance Programme which will be available and published on www.europeancancercongress.org in early 2015.
Late-Breaking Abstract Submission A call for Late-Breaking Abstracts will be made in July 2015. Online submission will be open on www.europeancancercongress.org from 22 July 2015 until 5 August 2015.
Please note that placeholder abstracts should be submitted during the period of regular abstract submission with the understanding that additional data can be incorporated during the period of late-breaking abstract submission. However, if the data only becomes available for presentation after the general submission deadline, then complete abstracts without place holders can be submitted during the late-breaking submission period.
Late-breaking abstracts describe the latest advances that will change our daily clinical practice and have not been previously submitted. They should highlight novel and practice-changing studies. The late-breaking abstract deadline is not an extension of the general submission deadline. Focus is placed on capturing abstracts with ground-breaking and unique data that would not otherwise have been presented at the Congress.
Examples of suitable late-breaking abstracts might include the results of a practice-changing prospective Phase III clinical trial; a Phase II study showing anti-tumour activity in a novel context; an early clinical trial with novel proof-of-principle data, or the demonstration of novel cancer biology with therapeutic implications – in each case the results should not have been fully available by the general abstract submission deadline. The data in the abstract cannot be published (manuscript or abstract) prior to the Congress.
If you have practice-changing data in the pipeline, the Executive Scientific Committee would be eager to discuss submission directly with you.
Please contact Davi Kaur by email for further details: [email protected]
