From Fr. Jossy’s Desk:

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

Today’s readings encourage us to ask daily for what we need from God who provides for all

creation.

Our LORD shows us very clearly in the Our Father that we must first ask that God be ac-

knowledged and adored by all. Then we ask that God’s Kingdom come. The Kingdom is the

beginning and end for which we live. Next, we ask that God’s will be done. After these re-

quests, Our Lord makes it very clear that we are to ask for our daily bread.

In time, as we cultivate in prayer what God has planted in our hearts, we gain confidence in

our growing friendship with God. So, as well as praising God in prayer, we also ask God for

all that is good for us and that will give God glory.

Prayer shows us how to perform all our actions well. Those who give alms, visit the sick, and

practice other good works, are praying. They are voices praising God with their good deeds.

The end of prayer is to desire only God. As we pour out in His presence our many desires God

in turn transforms us into Himself. We have the potential to be God filled, conscious servants

of the Kingdom of God. How can we not open our heart in prayer to allow the Holy Spirit to

flood US with divine love?--

Padre Jossy Vattothu, CMI
