innesota Twins centerfielder Torii Huntertells Fox Sports Net heperforms a ritual after
each bad defensive play: “I put myglove in the microwave for punish-ment. It’s not me that didn't catchthe ball, it's the glove.” We suspectTerrell Owens would adopt a similarapproach, if only his quarterbackcould fit in a microwave.
On ESPN’s “Pardon the Interrup-tion,” Michael Wilbon assessed col-league Tony Kornheiser’s debut on“Monday Night Football.” “Youwere all right,” he said. “I give youa solid C-plus.”Said Kornheiser,“C-plus? Hey, youtry broadcasting agame with (Joe)Theismann’s handon your thigh.”
Joe Buck, thenew host of “FoxNFL Sunday,” wasasked what hethought of colleague Terry Brad-shaw's recent nude scene in themovie “Failure to Launch.” “Nowthat we’re working together,” Bucksaid, “that was one of the best piecesof cinematic work ever.”
What the ‘H’ stands for: TheDetroit Lions, owned by WilliamClay Ford, are switching MarcusPollard to H-back. “That’s a posi-tion where Pollard will be playinga little of this and a little of that, asin fullback, receiver and tightend,” said Steve Schrader of theDetroit Free Press. “It’s all part ofFord’s commitment to developingmore hybrids.”
David Beckham was left off Eng-land’s roster for a friendly againstGreece. The headline in the Times ofLondon: “End It Like Beckham.”
The coaches felt Beckham had losta step. “In a touching show of sup-port,” Reggie Hayes of the FortWayne (Ind.) News-Sentinel said,“his wife has changed her name toOld Spice.”
