0830 – 0900 CAFCN: The Past, The Present & The Future – Pat MacDonald In order to understand where we are going, it is important to know where we came from. Today is a moment in time and tomorrow is the start of an exciting journey for CAFCN.

0900 – 1000 Electrical Stimulation for Wound Healing: A Case Study – Daryl Dyck, Maria Forese, Ivan Garcia Despite excellent evidence in the literature to support Electrical Stimulation (EST) for treating pressure ulcers, the treatment is not well utilized within the WRHA. Multidisciplinary teams are involved in treating hard to heal pressure injuries, and various methods of dressing and offloading the affected area are used. However, to date, EST has not been used in the Winnipeg Region. The case study describes the assessment and treatment of a patient with a chronic pressure injury on his lower extremity with EST.

1045 – 1115 Improving Prevention of Diabetes Foot complications in Winnipeg – Danny Ferry & Dr. Pam Monk Based on an article published in Diabetes Foot Canada found at: http://www.diabeticfootcnadajournal.ca Diabetic Foot Canada, 2016, Vol4, No2, pages 18-23 Non-neuropathic foot pain and biomechanical imbalance: Is screening missing its significance in preventing ulceration and amputation? In this presentation the authors describe and discuss their experience using comprehensive foot assessments in a multidisciplinary collaborative care model in a clinic that lead to surprising and unexpectedly good results with improved outcomes for patients. There were serious challenges with setting up a new and innovative program and then trying to sustain it. Despite very food results the future of the comprehensive care remains uncertain.

1200 – 1300 Skin: A Palette on Health – Jane McSwiggan The amazing properties of the largest organ in the body will be explored particularly related to how skin informs health. The significance of injury to the skin which ultimately can compromise life will be outlined as it relates to wound care.

1300 – 1330 A Closer look at Diabetic Socks – Justin Simmons Looking at features and benefits of diabetic socks and light compression and what to recommend for different conditions.

1400 – 1530 Instrument Reprocessing: A Foot Care Nurse’s Guide to Steam Sterilization – Tony Feretycki This presentation describes the Canadian Standard for steam sterilization for instruments used in foot care. Participants will understand the classification of instruments and recommendations supporting steam sterilization in foot care.

1530 – 1630 First Steps to Act Against Amputation – Mariam Botros Inlow’s 60-second Diabetic Foot Screen is a validated screening tool that aids clinicians in identifying at-risk feet. The basic 12 elements of the tool require only a 10-g monofilament, as well as good clinical knowledge and assessment skills.

1630 – 1830 Networking Reception – Wine & Cheese/Potato Bar

1115 – 1200 Putting Your Best Foot Forward with Injury Prevention Using Good Body Mechanics and Ergonomics – George Matos This session will help you learn to identify common ergonomic risk factors and musculoskeletal injury mechanisms during the provision of foot care. Methods to reduce susceptibility to injury will be discussed including use of equipment, safe work practices and patient handling techniques and proper body mechanics.

1330 – 1430 Lymphedema Awareness: Another Tool for Foot Care Nurses – Edith Mulhall, Wendy Leroux Sponsored by Munroe Pharmacy Foot care nurses are often the first professional to see patients with lower limb lymphedema. It is important for them to recognize this condition, and when and to whom, to refer for specialized service. The professional link between foot care nurses and Lymphedema therapists is vital. The purpose of this presentation is to help foot care nurses understand the basics of Lymphedema, and how we can work together to improve the quality of life for our mutual clients.

1530 – 1630 Staying Healthy on a Hectic Schedule – Maureen Donnelly For most of us, life races past at 100mph and finding the time to stay healthy – physically, mentally and emotionally can be a challenge! “Staying Healthy on a Hectic Schedule” is a fun, interactive workshop that will allow participants to identify areas within their busy lives that take them away from living a healthy, balanced life. Simple and helpful “tips & tools” will be presented to assist the participants in creating their very own “To Heck with Hectic” action plan that they can take with them and incorporate immediately.
