Through Norton Center A.C.T.S. (Arts for the Classroom Ticket Subsidy), a number of free or deeply discounted tickets, based on qualifying criteria, are available to public schools in Kentucky, providing access for students to attend and engage in high-quality and professional performing arts programs presented on our stages.

Norton Center A.C.T.S. helps to maximize attendance and provide access to these crucial life-enhancing experiences for Kentucky youth by greatly reducing financial barriers. For the 2017-2018 Matinee Series, A.C.T.S. is available in the following counties: Boyle, Burgin Independent Schools, Danville Independent Schools, Fayette, Garrard, Lincoln, Mercer, Marion, Washington.

We know how hard teachers work to meet state and national education standards while also trying to ensure students simply have FUN learning. The Norton Center also provides Curriculum Connections related to these shows and makes them available online at the beginning of each season. These state and national standard-based lesson plans are streamlined to provide supplemental information and activities that will enhance each of the performances in our series. Developed to stimulate learning in all areas of the curriculum through the arts, the activities involve students in high-level thinking skills, accommodate different learning styles, and help draw conclusions across the curriculum.

DOES YOUR SCHOOL QUALIFY FOR FREE TICKETS?

Student ticket prices have not changed in the last several years and are still only $8! School groups will receive one (1) free adult chaperone ticket per ten (10) student tickets purchased. Special pricing is also available for Homeschool students and Homeschool Groups. Additional adult tickets may be purchased for only $20 each. Student matinee tickets are available and assigned on a first come, first served basis. So, if you have special seating requests or needs, please order tickets as early as possible!

Orkesta Mendoza and Las Cafeteras are two of today’s most exciting bands, forging inspired new paths for the fabled Latin sound. Through music and storytelling, students discover the musical creativity, merging styles, and shared cultural indentities between Mexico and the United States.

Two-faced super-nerd, Charles Ross, lovingly tears Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece apart in his own One Man Dark Knight: A Batman Parody. No costumes, no sets, no Batmobiles. Ross takes you on a one-hour comedic joyride, from Batman’s origins to his epic battles against Gotham’s super-villians. Hold onto your utility belt!

• The seats requested are blocked off for that corresponding school and therefore cannot be sold to others. The school is then responsible for ALL seats reserved within that block, even if ALL students/chaperones aren’t able to attend.

With a love for both magic and science, Bill combined the two to create his one of a kind educational show, The Science of Magic. The show takes students on a rare, exciting, never-before-seen journey behind the scenes of the magic world. Students discover first-hand how magicians utilize science to create the impossible. Bill’s comedy-filled, action-packed, presentation is highly interactive and makes science fun and exciting!

TICKET ORDER FORM

HOW TO RESERVE AND PAY FOR TICKETS• A payment or a purchase order is required to reserve your seats for the program.

• Payment by check, cash, or credit card must be received at least two weeks before the performance date.

• Please note that there are no exchanges or refunds except in the case of a school closing for inclement weather OR if the Norton Center cancels the event.

Kentucky schools can apply for a FREE transportation subsidy to attend Norton Center student matinees through the Kentucky Arts Council TranspARTation Grant Program. This grant provides transportation funding to individual classrooms that apply. Grants are based on the mileage from the school to the performance venue and the number of buses necessary. Applications are reviewed quarterly. For information on applying for a TranspARTation Grant, please contact the Kentucky Arts Council directly at http://artscouncil.ky.gov/KAC/Creativity/TranspARTation.htm

RESOURCE GUIDE

This resource guide is designed to be used in conjunction with the live performance of Bill Blagg’s The Science of Magic show. Utilizing the resources in this guide will help you explore the wonders of magic with students. You will be able to further your students’ understanding of the art of magic and the scientific principles/processes displayed in Bill Blagg’s The Science of Magic show. The goal of this guide is to further promote students to think “outside the box” and spawn their curiosity about how science is used to create the impossible!
