6th Grade Information
• School day begins at 8:00 am (tardy bell) and ends 2:45 pm.
• School doors open at 7:50 am.
• Breakfast is served from 7:45 am - 7:55am
• There are currently 6 (six) teams of 6th grade students. Each team
size is an average of 110 students.
•The first week of school is scheduled with get to know you activities,
team building, character building, good study/organization
habits, and digital citizenship with the iPads.
• Student recognition all year!• SHARP Awards
• Tiger Pride Cards
• Honor Roll / Merit Roll
• Additional team rewards and incentives
• Extracurricular Activities after school & other special events all year!

Key Points:
• 7 academic periods in a day
•Each academic period will be 50 minutes in length.
• Students will have 4 core content periods and up to 2
elective periods.
•The 6th grade building schedules create more
opportunities for targeted intervention, targeted
enrichment, expanded course offerings, and teacher collaboration.
•Students will have more elective options allowing them
to explore more interests.

Accelerated Math 7 Placement
•Proper Placement is the correct balance between
challenge & enrichment vs. frustration and discouragement
•Initially misplaced students begin to struggle and often
become extremely overwhelmed
•Once on this rapidly accelerating trajectory – it is often
hard to get back on a more appropriate placement.
•Misplaced 6th grade Accelerated Math 7 students often
end up repeating or taking remedial math courses at the
high school level.

Successful Completion of Math 5 OR Bridge Math 5
with Teacher Recommendation
AND
WI STAR Scaled Score of 863
AND
Completion of HCSD Math 6 Online Course by August 1, 2017
Parent Letters will be mailed home in April
informing you of your child’s math course

Students will have the opportunity to have up to two (2) periods for elective
courses.
Elective courses are offered as either one trimester (12 weeks) or full year
courses.
It is strongly encouraged that students take the Digital Citizenship course
if it is possible in their schedule.
It is important to note that requesting elective courses does not guarantee
enrollment in those courses - Final placement in elective courses will be
based on student academic needs and staffing availability.

and perform on a wind or
percussion instrument.

types of 2-D and 3-D Art.
Digital Citizenship #201000
Digital Citizenship course is a
hands-on approach that equips
students with tools to thrive in the
digital age.
It is highly recommended for all
students to take.
Trimester ElectivesSTEM #216000
STEM is designed for students
who are considering middle and
high-school course work, which
can lead to exciting and rewarding
careers.
Physical Education #456000
This class provides daily activities
that allow improvement in the
areas of muscular endurance,
muscular strength, flexibility,
cardiovascular endurance, agility
and balance.
Book Club #309000
Book Club is designed for
students who want to spend more
time reading, writing, discussing
books (both electronic and print),
and exploring titles and genres
that are new to them. All levels of
readers are invited to join Book
Club.
Music in Action #659000
Music in Action offers students the
opportunities to use a hands-on
learning approach to music.

Intervention
A number of intervention opportunities will be available for students
based on testing data, classroom assessments and/or teacher
recommendation.
•Please note, these intervention courses are not requested by
students/parents, rather, they are scheduled for students based on the
academic criteria listed above.
•Letters will be coming home in April to students who have been identified
for intervention.
