IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR
VENDORS BEEF SCHEMES – NAMED SIRES
Named sire cattle particularly Angus, Hereford, Shorthorn and Devon breeds are of
particular importance when selling stock at market.
Therefore please be extremely careful when registering all calves as stringent checks
are now in force when the animals are put into rearing units and at the point of slaughter
(which may include DNA testing).
As such, please do the following if your cattle are sired by a registered Pedigree bull:
Enter the full sire ear tag number (and name if possible) on your passport
application form for each animal.
Write the full sire name on each passport prior to bringing the animal(s) to
market.
Write the full sire name of each animal on the market entry form.
NO SIRE DETAILS ON PASSPORT/ENTRY FORM = SOLD WITH NO SIRE NAME
An online database to check whether your sire is registered as pedigree is available on
most cattle society websites.
Please contact the market office for further clarification or information regarding sire
names.

STIRKS AUCTIONEER: CHARLIE COLEMAN 07494 588 013 What a super day! Another large entry dominated by a simply tremendous run of Beef Shorthorns from Peter Howlett & family, who travelled up from Dartmouth and met a huge reception with birth notified 7mo heifers charging to £730. Their super run of 43 Beef Shorthorn stirks 7mo met buyers from as far as Wales and Shropshire who bid well for all. Other birth notified and non-pedigree heifers made £575, £530, £525 and £515 with steers to £500, £450 and £435. A cracking run of Simmental heifers from Tuckmarsh Farm sold exceptionally well to £385 and £350. A good entry from Sam Baker & family met support with Hereford steers to £382, heifers to £300, Limousin heifers to £310 and Angus heifers to £325. It was good to see the Jones family here today with their run of young Friesian and Norwegian bulls which consistently pushed the £150 mark. DAIRY CATTLE (13) Starts. 11.00am AUCTIONEER: TREVOR ROWLAND 07968 480 401 CALVED HEIFERS TO £1370 CALVED COWS TO £1510 A reduced entry in terms of numbers and quality, a packed ring of buyers were more selective and more 1st quality sorts would have sold to a premium! Freshly calved heifers lacked the quality and therefore reduced the demand of previous weeks. A heifer from TCF (Wiltshire) Ltd sold to £1370 others from AJ & M King to £1200. 2nd calved cows sold well with plenty of demand around the ring. A super Swedish Red from Mitchell Bros sold to £1510 and £1360. In calf heifers due January/February saw good competition from buyers to see a top price of £1010 from TCF(Wiltshire) Ltd and £1090 from Reynolds.
