Objective of FP5 (1998-2002)Objective of FP5 (1998-2002)
Investigate and evaluate new or revisited concepts for nuclear energy that offer potential longer term benefits in terms of cost, safety, waste management, use of fissile material, less risk of diversion and sustainability.

CONCEPTS TO PRODUCE LESS WASTE IN NUCLEAR POWER GENERATION(Management of Radioactive waste)
Objective of FP6 (2002-2006)To explore the potential of the more efficient use of fissile material in existing reactors and of other concepts to produce less waste in nuclear energy generation.
Research areas: Fuel and fuel cycles Other concepts to decrease the waste production

INNOVATIVE CONCEPTS(Other Activities in the Field of Nuclear
Technologies and Safety)
Objective of FP6 (2002-2006)
To evaluate the potential of innovative concepts and develop improved and safer processes for the generation and exploitation of nuclear energy.

INNOVATIVE CONCEPTS
Research areas: High Temperature Reactors Research should include fuel technology, reactor
physics, waste management, materials, components and systems, safety and licensing issues
Other innovative reactor concepts that offer long term benefits in terms of safety, environmental impact,
resource utilisation and proliferation resistance
Heat application such as hydrogen production (limited to coupling with nuclear system).
