Portuguese India.�1856�(June�25):�Entire�letter�written�and�dated�from�Ponda�to�Nova�Goa,�struck�on� reverse�with�fine� strike�of�outstandingly� rare� "Ponda� /�P.P."� (Post�Paid)� in� red.�Slight�repairable�flap�tear�on�reverse�but�of�great�rarity,�with�only�two�letters�from�the�archive�struck�in�this�manner.In 1840 a postal regulation appeared by which 5 administrations were created for Portuguese India, namely Nova Goa (Pangim), Mapuca, Bicholim, Ponda and Margao. This regulation stated that handstamps were to be supplied to the Post Offices with "P.P." to be used for prepaid mail, "P.N.P." for unpaid mail, "Livre" for Official mail carried free of charges and "Segura" for registered mail. Until very recently only Goa, Mapuca and Margao handstamps had been recorded and these rare markings were only found on out-going mail to Portugal or British India.��� � � 6 10'000 (€ 6'700 )
