trying whatever we can to stop children from swimming in that river, but we cannot always be there to guard them. We always talk about water safety in our meetings, but all our efforts seem to be in vain. We are appealing to parents to monitor their children’s movements all the time to avoid such tragedies,” he said.

Vuwani police spokesperson W/O Elijah Malatjie, who was also at the scene, said drown-ing at this time of the year had become a source for concern. “We experience many incidents of drowning at this time of the year and are ap-pealing to parents and the community to guard against children’s going to rivers when it is hot. Besides drowning, the Luvuvhu River is infested with big crocodiles that have killed many people from this community,” he said.

The MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba (front), unveils the plaque at the official opening of the new Univen campus health clinic. She is assisted by Prof Peter Mbati and Cllr Lucy Mulaudzi.

The MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, said that young people must respect the infra-structure that was erected to help them.

“It is never a solution to destroy institutions like libraries or campuses, which were constructed to liberate our youth,” she added.

Ramathuba officially opened the new R16.5 million Univen campus health clinic, which will help to treat students and staff members and ren-der wellness services, HIV/Aids programmes and emergency services. She said the department would ensure that doctors and health personnel be avail-able 24 hours every day.The principal of Univen, Prof Peter Mbati, said the construction of the cam-pus health clinic had been funded through Univen’s investment in refurbishment and construction of new infrastructure projects, which included student residences, laboratories, and lecture halls.

He added that the university was proud of hand-ing over an all-encompassing new campus health clinic, where students, staff and the community could receive services.

Successful youth conference at NancefieldThe bi-annual conference for the youth of the Venda-speak-ing Reformed Churches in the Vhembe region took place over the weekend of 2 to 5 October in Musina.

It was attended by more than 100 young church members from different churches. The venue was the newly built church build-ing of the Reformed Church Mu-sina Nancefield. Members of the congregations of Trans-Letaba, De Hoop, Middle Letaba, Sout-pansberg, Musina and Songozwi participated in the event.

According to observers, the

conference was hot in more than one way. The region was hit by a heat wave, but the enthusiasm of the young believers attending the conference may have even surpassed the extreme climate conditions.

The purpose of the event was to equip young people with Scripture to call other young people to believe in the Lord Je-sus Christ and become members of his church. A new organising committee was elected, with Br. Samuel Chuene from Musina as chairperson.

Musina Nancefield was also

the venue for a conference of sisters of these churches over the weekend of 8 to 10 May. At this occasion, the theme was God’s 10 principles for raising children as given in the first 10 chapters of Proverbs.

It was also announced that on 25 October, the new church building of the Reformed Church Musina Nancefield will be of-ficially inaugurated during a combined service with the Af-rikaans-speaking congregation in town. During the event, a cornerstone will be unveiled at the new building.

From page 1Derrick Mudau of Tshivhazwaulu was in the

company of friends when the incident happened. It took place last Thursday, around midday,

when the friends who were swimming noticed that Mudau had disappeared. The spot where he drowned is frequented by pupils during school holidays. News of Mudau’s drowning spread like wildfire, with curious onlookers from Tshivhazwaulu and all the neighbouring villages coming in their numbers. Within a very short space of time, the river bank was swarming with people who arrived at the scene.

Divers who were called to search for the body did not take long to locate the body. Mudau’s mother, who was also at the scene, cried uncontrollably after identifying the body as her son. Community leader Alex Ndou, a ward committee member responsible for safety and security and also a member of the Tshivhazwaulu traditional council, said the spot had claimed four lives in recent times. “We are

P&L Hardware students complete trainingStudents who completed their courses at P&L Hardware’s Further Education and Training College received their certificates during a ceremony held two weeks ago at Mountain Inn hotel. The training was done in partnership with the Wholesale & Retail SETA (W&R SETA).

The students were recruited from various communities and re-ceived free training af-ter being employed by the company. Eighty students received cer-tificates after complet-ing Level 2 to Level 5 courses. Mr Aubrey Rambau, regional man-ager of P&L Hardware, said that since 2003 the college had already trained more than 2 000 young people from var-ious communities and offered them jobs.

Mr Sipho Shoba, re-gional manager of the W&R SETA, said that

his institution appreciated what P&L Hardware was doing and that they would continue funding the programme. He urged the students to continue with the right attitude, so that they could succeed in life. “If you do not have the right attitude, hard work will be a burden to you. All good things you have

achieved are because of your attitude,” he added.Technical Vocational Educational and Training

(TVET) co-ordinator Mr Sedzani Matshinyat-simbi told the students that, by completing the programme, they had proven to their employer that they were dedicated and committed.

Muofhe’s book, Waiting On Tomorrow,

boldly explores diffi cult themes

A er assisting several groups as backing vocalist, Joseph Bvuma of Nwaxinyamane and his group recently recorded their debut album, Nyumisa na Majika Volume 1.

He decided to start a solo career, and while desperately searching for people to assist him to have his music record-ed, Bvuma met well-known musician Obed Ngobeni and three little sisters. ey then decided to form the group Nyumisa na Majika Sisters.

The album comprises eight songs,i n c l u d i n g M u r h i a s i n w i n i , P i t o r i ,

Mapu luhweni and ngarili. Bvuma said he started as a dancer and

backing vocalist for several artists and groups around Vhembe.

“My music doors were opened when I col-laborated with Obed Ngobeni and the group.” Because they have many things in common, it became very easy for them to rehearse and nally release their debut album.

Bvuma says the group members come from di erent villages around the Hlanganani area.

“Before recording our album, we per-formed at funerals, weddings and at com-

munity events to make sure that people were getting used to our music. e bookings were over owing and it proved that people love our music. Our music is purely vocal, but we also add musical instruments in a few songs.”

“I am a full-time musician, but I know that I will have something to depend on whenever I decide to take a break from my music. I therefore encourage young people who want to venture into the music industry to seek an education rst. ey will also have something to fall back on if their music careers are not doing well.”

ousands of fans and followers of the esteemed musician Muo e Lavine Mulovhedzi would be amazed if any art reviewer made a claim that her singing talent was nothing compared to her writing.

is does not suggest that her music is not good, as everyone who has listened to her sounds will at-test that, stylistically, she is in a league of her own.

Muo e recently launched her debut novel, Waiting On Tomorrow, at the ulamela library.

Here is a brave young writer who has not only written a good story but also a controversial tale of rape, ruthlessness, confusion, justification, victimisation, hatred, vengeance, repentance and forgiveness. Waiting on Tomorrow is not to be judged by the extent of the coverage it received

in the media and on social networks. People should rather procure a copy of the book from their nearest bookshop and see if they can remain untouched by this woman’s prose, plot and the story as a whole.

e book tells the story of a 17-year-old girl, Selomo, who is le pregnant as the result of a rape. “Everyone around her feels the pregnancy must be aborted to wipe away the shame of the rape,” Muo e says. At some stage, even Selomo thinks it’s a good decision to abort the child. However, her hopes of terminating the pregnancy are dashed when Zeka, the young man who raped, her nds out and demands to be part of the pregnancy.

“He seems in love with the idea of having the child,” says Muo e. “Zeka goes out of his way to convince her that he wants the child and to protect both of them. He tries to show her his

other side. She begins to lose her fear and nds comfort around him. She has to justify keeping her child to her family, who wants it aborted or adopted. No one wants the child to survive, not even the pastor at her church.” e warpath between Selomo’s father and Zeka’s gang begins. On the other side, Zeka’s family has the audacity to visit Selomo’s family.

“We are here regarding the matter of our son, Muzikababa. He tells us he plucked a ower in this household,” said one of the men.

“In my house?” my father asked, turning red from anger.

“Yes,” the man answered. “He says she is with child, a son from the Khuzwayo clan.”

“Please, Bagolobaka,” my father pleaded calmly with rage. “Don’t come and insult me in my house. Your son didn’t pluck any ower here. He savagely

assaulted my daughter and now her whole future is ruined. You have some nerve coming to my house and trying to claim a son from us.”

From the above text, however painful and dark the tone seems, Muo e’s strength of a writer is clearly seen in how she puts the words together to render her prose.

As a prose writer, she is a force that many writ-ers who came before her would just sit back and look at her with total envy. is novel interrogates societal norms and values which parents instill into children and shed light on the consequences of failure to embrace those values. In this novel, the entire community is in turmoil because of the act of one child – Zeka.

Muofhe hopes that, by February next year, her book will have reached all major stores na-tionwide.

Fire destroys Zwithuzwavhudi’s staff roomDamage estimated at about R1.8 million was caused by the fire that destroyed the staff room and part of the administration block of Zwithuz-wavhudi Secondary School in Gondeni village outside Thohoyandou last Wednesday.

The principal of the school, Mr Nndivhaleni Siaga, said he was informed by one of the com-munity members at about 05:30 on Wednesday that the staff room was on fire. “We are worried that text books, teachers’ and learners’ files, ex-amination material and science chemical appa-ratus were all destroyed by the fire. We praise the communities around Gondeni who came in large numbers to help us to remove some items from the administration block,” said Siaga.

According to him, they never suspected that anything bad could happen at the school. Although it has not yet been established what might have caused the fire, Siaga said that they had discovered a box of matches in the gutted staffroom “and we sus-pect foul play.”

The president of the learners representative council (LRC), Khodani Mukhadi, a Grade 12 pupil, said that she was very worried, because some of the text books they needed to prepare for the final exams had also been destroyed in the fire. “We are totally disturbed about the situ-

ation, because pupils and teachers are left without learning material.”

The police spokesperson in the Thohoyandou Cluster, Maj Mashudu Malelo, said they had opened an arson case and the police were still in-vestigating the matter. At the time of our going to press, no arrest had been made yet and the police have urged community members to supply them with information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.

One of the teachers, Mr Azwianewi Maruge (left), Principal Nndivhaleni Siaga and a community leader, Mr Thinavhudzulo Mudau, look at the damage caused by the fire.

A local resident, Mr Tebo Makhuru (second from left), recently won a vehicle in the Lewis Louis Trichardt win-a-car competition. Photographed during the presentation of the vehicle are, from left to right, Ms Gloria Miyeni (branch manager), Makhuva (winner), Mr Fanus van der Walt (regional controller) and Ms Maria Makhuvha.

Bishop Samuel Tshabuse of Hope of Nations Ministries in Thohoyandou said the recent donation of Bibles to local churches by Reri’s Insurance Brokers was a symbol of great love for the people. “We received the gift of life, which cannot be compared to any other gift,” said Tshabuse. The MD of Reri’s, Mr David Mureri, said that they had invited various churches around the Vhembe region who were in dire need of Bibles in their churches to register with his company. “After some selection, we called them to come and collect the Bibles. We also donate for the education of our children, like we pledge more money for the annual Vhembe district’s Grade 12 excellence awards,” said Mureri. In our photo, Mureri presents a Bible to Bishop Tshabuse, while pastors from various churches hold their Bibles.

M u t a l e p o l i c e are looking for the 16-year-old Khuthadzo Ntenge (photo) of Guyuni Dzimaulwi, who went missing on 18 September this year. According to information at the police’s disposal, the girl had an argument with her mother and that was when she decided to pack her clothing in a bag and left, saying she was going to her grandmother at Maniini. She was wearing her school uniform of a black skirt, white long-sleeved shirt, long black socks and black shoes. She has short hair. According to Mutale police spokesperson W/O Simon Nyambeni, they got information that she was seen at Tshisele, but she apparently left the area without telling anyone where she was going. Anyone with information is asked to phone Nyambeni at 082 477 8494.

Thinandavha “Chittagong“ Ra-mantswana is known as the Getto Diva of the airwaves, and is in command of a sport show from Monday to Friday and also a commentator of soccer matches.

She was born at Luvhalani in Nzhelele. She started her schooling years at Malema Primary School in Nzhelele. She matriculated at George Mbulaheni Secondary and then studied journalism at a private college in the Tswane Metropole.

Being a introvert, she was natu-rally drawn to creative writing to express her thoughts and perspec-tives, rather than expressing them openly. Radio represented a wider platform for Ramantswana to ex-press her ideas and she increasingly dreams of asserting herself as a key player in the media industry.

Her most important her goal is to keep radio entertaining, relevant and progressive. She is the first woman to do live commentary of matches at the popular SABC Tshivenda radio station. She has been working for the station for the past fi ve years.

She brings live commentary of Absa Premiership and Nation-al First Division (NFD) soccer matches and she was also part of Phalaphala FM’s broadcasting team to do live commentary on FIFA World Cup 2010 and 2014. She has been actively involved in the broadcasting of the 2014 CHAN and AFCON tournaments.

The chancellor of the University of Venda, Mr Kgalema Motlanthe, said education remained a critical tool that could help to change the lives of people for the better.

“Your achievement in your qualifica-tion should help to shape the country and

help in eradicating poverty and unemploy-ment hindering the rural communities,” he said. He recently conferred more than 500 certificates, diplomas and degrees on students in the fields of law, human and social sciences, mathematical and natural sciences, health sciences, environmental

sciences, agriculture, and management sciences during the graduation ceremony that took place at the Univen auditorium a fortnight ago.

Seventeen doctoral degrees, 76 masters and 407 undergraduate degrees were awarded during the event.

“Department ready for exams”

Some of the graduates photographed after the ceremony.

The Department of Education is ready for the final National Certif-icate Examinations, which will start on 26 October.

A spokesperson for the depart-ment, Dr Naledzani Rasila, said in discussions with the department’s top management last Monday, it was confirmed that there are 102 633 registered full-time pupils and 16 104 part-time repeat candidates who will be writing the examinations in a total of 1 693 centres across the province.

“On registration of Grade R to 12 learners for 2016, it was reported that the process is still progressing smoothly in all the districts.”

According to him, there will be no admission of learners to be admin-istered in schools in the beginning of next year. The department has also started with the procurement of learner/teacher support material for next year. The intention is to start de-livering these materials in the coming two months.

The Thohoyandou police are appealing to members of the community who might know the whereabouts of Aluwani Mphaphuli (14) of Ha Mphego. She went missing in the morning of 26 September 2015. She was last seen wearing a black shirt, pink running shoes and a pink tracksuit with stripes. “She is coffee coloured, of light built with scars on the face,” a spokesman for the police said. Makhubele clan celebrates its heritageHundreds of members of the Makhubele clan recently gathered and celebrated culture, heri-tage and unity at Nwaxinyamani village.

This was during the fourth Makhubele Annual Day, which was celebrated under the theme “Never get tired to do good things to others”.

Hosi Maria Duvula spoke about the importance of preserving culture and heritage for bringing back the spirit of ubuntu, humility, respect and integrity. Hosi Gezani Ernest Makhubele from Makhubele Traditional Authority, representing all Makhubele traditional leaders and clans, said that it was import-ant that they tell good stories during the event “to change the communities from pre-modernity into post-modernity. We need to tell actionable stories of empowering our communities by giving school uniforms and doing other good works to ensure that we have an educated nation. No one under the Makhubele clan should rest until we change the lives of our people.”

The spokesperson for the Makhubele clan, Mr Trinity Makhubele, urged all clans within South Africa to unite and celebrate their origins, culture and heritage because it is important for all people

to know where they come from and where they are going.

“It is not difficult to unite a clan as long as there’s commitment, dedication, transparency and accountability in everything people do,” he said. “The secret behind the sustenance of these events are in the loyalty to the Makhubele as a brand and the love of people and willingness to change other people’s lives. We need to play a game of making other people feel very special.”

In each annual event, the clan donates school uniforms to needy pupils, plants trees and influ-ences communities in a positive way to love and support needy people and projects. The event was supported by businesses such as Gijas Home Im-provement Centre, Rix-aka Funerals, Maeteko Funerals, and Mgwena Business Forum.

“This is our fourth year of celebration af-ter having started at Makhubele village in Malamulele in 2012, where school uniforms were donated to 30 learners. In 2013, we went to Duvula village, where 35 learners re-ceived uniforms, and in 2014 to Mhuntani village in Mokopane, where 35 learners re-ceived uniforms,” said Makhubele. He added that this year the event had brought unity to the following Makhubele Traditional leaders: Hosi Makhubele, Hosi Duvula, Hosi Nwaxin-yamani, Hosi Mtsetwe-ni, Hosi Msengi, Hosi Shihambanyisi, Hosi Makhome, Hosi Boki-si, Hosi Mhuntani and the Headmen Mgabini, Manyange, Boy Ritsam-bane and all Makhube-les f rom Limpopo, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the other six prov-inces.

The traditional leaders from the Makhubele clan: Headman Hulela Makhubele, Headman Mgabini Makhubele (Maphanye), Traditional Cllr Rhoza Makhubele (Bokisi), Hosi Gezani N’waxinyamani, Hosi Hanyani Duvhula (Rotterdam), Hosi Xitlhavangoma Bokisi, Hosi Ernest Makhubele (Makhubele village) and Mr Jackson Makhubele (national clan chairperson).

Musina news

“We are doing our best to resolve the challenges”Ordinary community members and representatives of community stakeholders from Ward 3 had an opportunity to interact with government leaders during the mayoral imbizo of the Musina Mu-nicipality that was recently held at Nancefield Extension 2 open field.

The imbizo is a two-way commu-nication system, aimed at improving service delivery and community involvement in the decision-making processes of the municipality. The event was led by Mayor Mihloti Ramoyada, her councillors and senior officials from sector departments and the private sector.

Ramoyada presented a service delivery report and future plans of the municipality. She added that the event was testimony that the govern-ment of the day was serious about its electorate.

According to her, the municipality is doing everything possible to im-prove the lives of local people. “We are building a gymnasium here in ward 3 at a cost of R2,3 million. For the first time in history, Nancefield community members will have a gymnasium right at their doorstep.”

She mentioned that they had spent R2,5 million to rebuild the commu-nity hall that was blown away by

strong winds three years ago. “We know that people have a lot of service delivery concerns, but we are doing our best to resolve some of the chal-lenges, despite limited resources,” she promised.

Besides individual community members who attended the imbizo, other stakeholders included the Moral Regeneration Movement, Nancefield Taxi Association, Department of So-cial Development, South African Po-lice Services, Home Affairs and South African Social Security Agency.

A Tshigombela dance from Tshakhuma entertained the guests.

More than four hundred stokvel members from different groups from various Spar stores attended a stokvel party at Elim on Saturday.

Members were from three Spar stores, namely Elim, Vuwani and Tshakhuma. A number of sup-plier companies displayed their products at the event, and all the members who attended went home with prizes in the form of groceries and cosmetics. Stokvel members decided to start their own clubs, which would focus on savings, amongst others to buy groceries in December, and to help them to pay tuition fees.

Ms Sharon Makhasa from Elim Superpar said that stokvel members are laying a solid founda-tion which would allow them to achieve success. Stokvels have aspirations to grow their ventures into businesses, and thereby to leave a legacy for their children. “Through the event, we share infor-mation on how to achieve these goals. People share their ideas and the lessons they have learnt over the years, with each other,” Makhasa added. She further said that stokvel members need new skills to help them run their stokvels more effi ciently.

One of the stokvel members from Mpheni, Ms Mulalo Siavhe said that the stokvel is not only about making profi t, but also about doing something for disadvantaged communities. ”Our main aim is to build wealth slowly and not to rely on monthly contributions. Saving for groceries is important, but what is essential is building lasting wealth that will sustain our families when we are no longer alive.”

Siavhe concluded by saying; “we cannot build this wealth only through monthly contributions. South Africa is full of opportunities and I would like to encourage other stokvels to start doing something, and they do not have to start big, just a small thing will encourage them to try and push forward.” Today the club has 16 members, and they all care about empowerment and growth.

Some of the elderly people show how to throw a rugby ball through a ring during the games at Thohoyandou Stadium.

Some of the elderly people participated in athletics during the games.

Elderly to participate in Golden GamesThe MEC for Social Development, Ms Joyce Mashamba, urged communities to support elderly people from Limpopo when they repre-sent the province in the National Golden Games that will take place in the Northern Cape later this month.

Mashamba and Thulamela Mayor Grace Mahosi

addressed the athletes during the provincial games at the Thohoyandou Stadium last Wednesday. “Our older persons who are taking part in the various sporting activities improve their health and longev-ity and use the opportunity to interact with older people of all cultural groups. We call upon young people to follow in their footsteps and emulate our older people in making sure we stay healthy and drug-free,” said MEC Mashamba.

Some of the sports the elderly participate in in-clude duck walk, dress-up, goal shooting, pegging washing pegs, athletics, passing the ball, ring the stick and several other activities.

Mayor Mahosi said that she was over the moon to be given an opportunity to host the provincial games in Thohoyandou. By keeping themselves fit, the elderly will keep healthy and prevent illnesses such as high blood pressure or diabetes.

Young people urged to participate in all forms of sportCllr Frank Tshililo of Ward 37 of the Makhado Municipality encouraged young people to par-ticipate in sporting codes. He addressed young people during the prize-giving ceremony of a soccer tournament at Makushu a fortnight ago.

Tshililo sponsored the tournament. He said he was a proud supporter of local football develop-ment and said that Vhembe was rich in talent. He added that he would like to continue to develop a relationship with development teams and provide something tangible that the people would value. He stated that the government could not curb the high rate of unemployment alone.

According to the organiser, Mr Tovhowani Mbengwa, the main purpose of the tournament was to unify the young people of Ward 37 and the surrounding areas. The issue of health among the young people also formed part of the programme. “It is in these events where people learn how to organize themselves,” added Mbengwa .

Mudimeli Bomo United were crowned as the champions. They went home with R1 500, a trophy and a soccer ball. The runners-up, Chipolopolo, received R900 and a soccer ball. The third prize of R600 went to Maranikwe Try Again.

Peace Makers win Matange final Home Defenders and Dynamos in drawTshakhuma Peace Makers beat Tshakhuma Young Ti-gers 4-2 in the final of the Matange Brick and Tile U/13 Soccer Tournament at the Tshakhuma Malaria grounds on Saturday.

Peace Makers deserved to win from the onset, but they failed to convert their scoring chances.

Young Tigers committed suicide by trying to play carpet football, instead of playing aeri-al balls from behind and making

use of their height advantage.Realizing that his strikers

seemed to have left their scor-ing boots at home, the Peace Makers’ defender, Adivhaho Mulaudzi, abandoned his posi-tion on countless occasions to beef up his fumbling forwards. Mpfunzeni Mahafha of Peace Makers was lucky not to see red in the 17th minute. He handled the ball intentionally.

Instead of giving him his marching orders, the referee chose to let him go with a mere

verbal warning, much to the sur-prise of the soccer fans. Peace Makers came close to scoring in the 27th minute. Hulisani Raluswinga received a neat pass from his captain, Adivhaho Mulaudzi, but shot wide from close range.

Peace Makers broke the dead-lock in the 39th minute. Adivha-ho Mulaudzi tried his luck from the 35-meter area with a volley.

The ball hit the crossbar and landed across the goal line. Peace Makers kept on knock-

Gogobole Home Defenders played to a 2-all draw against Tshiozwi Dynamos during the round-robin tournament at the Gogobole grounds last Sunday.

Defenders played entertaining football from the onset, but their strikers were unlucky. Petrus

ing on the opponents’ door for the remaining part of the first half, but their strikers were unlucky.

The last half saw Peace Makers create more scoring chanc-es, with their strikers fumbling at the goal finish. Young Tigers fought back in the 78th minute. Tshilidzi Khorommbi blasted in a rocket after a scam-ble within the box.

The winner was determined through penalty shootout as the full time score was 1-1. Peace Makers scored three while Young Tigers con-verted only one from the white spot.

Wanga Munyai of Peace Makers (closest to camera) and Mhluri Ndlovu of Young Tigers chase the ball. Defenders’ striker, Pahthutshedzo Mashau (left), and Khamara

Naledzani attack the high ball.

Mahosi, the Defenders’ right flank, missed an opportunity in the 10th minute. After he beat two defenders in a row, he shot aimlessly from inside the box. The ball went far wide, much to the disappointment of the team’s fans.

Defenders were the first to effect a change to their original line-up. They introduced Eugene Ramusheu and sacrificed Ndivhuwo Sikhwivhilu in the 27th minute. Shortly thereaf-ter, the referee flashed his first yellow card. Maisha Tshishonga of Defenders was warned for a late tackle on Do-menic Mafuleni.

Dynamos’ Andries Masingi opened their account in the 40th min-ute to bring the half-time score to 1-0.

Early in the second half, Defenders lost shape in the middle of the park. They were severely punished and Dynamos increased the

margin via Botie Ramabulana. His long-range ground cutter was too hot for the keeper, Mabuli Gedezha, to handle.

Defenders did not lose hope, despite trailing by two goals. They initiated promising moves from behind. They reduced the

deficit when Tshishonga Tsh-ishonga beat the keeper with a volley. Khuli Ramudzwangi and Mpho Malema of Dynamos were cautioned with a card for rough play, and Defenders scored the equalizer via Tshishonga late in the game.

“We will need proof of yearly inocula-tions, as well as rabies inoculation when

you bring your pet in,” said Reimer.Inoculation must take place 10 days

before the pet is brought to the kennels. Reimer and Khodobo must also be made aware of pets on medication while these are at the kennels.

“If you intend leaving your pets at home during the holiday, please make adequate arrangements with a reliable person for them. Remember, there will be fireworks while you are away, so be prepared,” Reimer warned.

The boarding fees are R40 per dog per day and R30 per cat per day. Office hours at the kennels are Monday to Friday from 08:00 until 17:00 and Saturdays from 08:00 until 13:00.

The kennels are closed on Sundays and public holidays. People bringing their pets

must do so within business hours. Pets left at the kennels over the weekend must be picked up on Monday, unless arrange-ments are made before the time.

The SPCA remain reliant on dona-tions to keep their doors open. For those wishing to make a donation, the local SPCA’s banking details are SPCA Louis Trichardt, Standard Bank, account number 282374639 and branch code 052 549.

For more infor-mation or in case of emergencies, phone Lawrence at 082 965 5151 or Reimer at 082 424 5712.

Ward 21 residents under the Thulamela municipality had a fun-filled day, when the local ward councillor, Cllr Maria Ramanala, and other structures in the community joined hands and hosted a soccer tournament in the area.

On Saturday, hundreds of soccer lovers gathered at the local All Blacks Soccer grounds for what turned out to be a most memorable day in the community. Four teams, Maniini All Blacks, Wisdom Academy, Block F FC and Block K and R Portions, participated.

The final was between Maniini All Blacks and Block F FC, where Maniini

All Blacks emerged the champions after beating their opponents 2-1.

For their efforts, All Blacks took home a trophy, R750 cash, gold medals and two soccer balls. Block F FC were consoled by a soccer ball, R450 cash and silver medals. In addition, all teams received R200 for refreshments.

Speaking during the tournament, Cllr Ramanala said besides being good for one’s health, sport had the potential to unite the community. “There is no better way of coming together for a good cause than sport. We are meeting today as a community and while here we can think

of something good to improve the living conditions in our areas. We are also hap-py that many youths participated in the tournament and we have seen that there are many with talent here.”

Patson Ramuntshi, who coordinated the tournament, said they were happy with the way things went.

“We did achieve our objective of bring-ing people together and taking the youth off the streets at least for a day. We aim to make this an annual event, but this will depend on businesspeople coming on board and assisting in the logistics of the day,” Ramuntshi added.

An affiliate of the Thulamela Local Football Association, Lunungwi United FC, received brand new soccer kit from the management of Thwwa Trad-ing and Projects Company.

The kit was officially handed over to the club at the local chief’s kraal on Sunday after-noon.

Before handing over the kit to the team, the manager of the company, Mr VP Tshivhase, revealed that the donation was a fulfillment of the pledge the company had made to the local community.

According to Tshivhase, the managing director of the compa-ny, Dr Hulisani Kwinda, prom-ised to develop the community

in many ways at the time when he was given a piece of land for development purposes some months back.

Tshivhase further stated that the donation was the beginning of great things to come.

When addressing the peo-ple, the local traditional leader, Vhamusanda Vho-Mutshutshu Edson Mamatho, revealed that he was still going to attract more investors to the area.

He severely criticized the peo-ple who accused him of giving a piece of land to non-residents at the time when he gave Dr Kwinda a piece of land for de-velopment purposes

In his words of appreciation for the donation, the captain of the team, Rolivhuwa Manduna,

praised the company for plough-ing back part of their income back into the community.

He stated that the donation would go a long way in boost-ing the morale of the players. According to the general manag-er of the club, Mr NE Muswubi, the club was founded in the early nineties.

The people who are currently managing the team are: Messrs NE Muswubi (general manager), Mashudu Rasiaga (chairman), Maberegisi Avhafunani (dep-uty chairman), Nenngwekhulu Thivhudziswi (general secre-tary), Kone Ndileleni (deputy secretary), Muswubi Solomon (treasurer), Netsianda Peter (transport organizer) and Mand-una Sedzani (PRO).

The captain of Peace Makers, Adivhaho Mulaudzi (centre), receives his team’s soccer kit from Mr RR Matshepete (left), while some of the dignitaries look on.

Tshakhuma Peace Makers U/13 Football Club were crowned the champions of the Matange Brick and Tile Soccer Tournament at the Tshakhuma Malaria grounds last Saturday. This after they beat Tshakhuma Young Tigers 4-2 in the final.

Peace Makers were presented with a brand new soccer kit during a ceremony that was held at the grounds shortly after the final. During the ceremony, the managing director of the company, Mr RR Matshepete, revealed that this year’s spon-sorship was the starting point of the relationship that will last for years to come. He stated that the sponsorship would increase every year, saying next season’s champions would take home a floating trophy, soccer kit and 11 pairs of soccer boots.

Matshepete further stated that, as a parent him-self, it was his wish to see all children having a bright future. He appealed to the children to strike a balance between education and sports. Matshepete also indicated that he was impressed by the perfor-mance of one of the players for the teams that took part in the losers’ final, Shooting Stars.

The 10-year old Livhuwani Ndou, who was wearing the captain’s arm band, was a thorn in the flesh of the opponents, TNN Academy. Matshepete stated that he would adopt the young player for the rest of his football career.

The runners-up, Young Tigers, were presented with a cash prize of R500. Shooting Stars took home R350 while TNN Academy went home with a consolation prize of R150. During the ceremony, a local ward councilor, Cllr TA Mmbadi, appealed to other businessmen to start sponsoring development teams. Mmbadi appealed to the children not to forget that they were the ones who could determine their own future.

Four teams, TNN Academy, Tshakhuma Shoot-ing Stars, Tshakhuma Young Tigers and the cham-

pions, Tshakhuma Peace Makers, took part in the tournament. Shooting

Stars beat TNN Academy 4-3 in their losers’ final match earlier that day.

Prize money amounting to R100 000 was dis-tributed to primary and secondary schools during the prize-giving ceremony of the Munei Foundation Chess competition, which was held at the Tshiozwi Sivhada Guest House last Friday night.

The guest speaker, the chairperson for housing development enterprise of Namibia, Mr Sam Chivute, emphasised the importance of education during the ceremony and said that sport without education meant nothing. “You can be a star today and be written off the following day. Education will never forsake you, and you can bank on it,” he added.

He criticized teachers who are involved in drugs. “Imagine the teacher who is supposed to be a role model is selling dagga to the pupils. What type of future leaders are we expecting from that generation? We are also seriously concerned about community members who sell alcoholic beverages to school kids. Can you imagine a learner dressed in school uniform, queuing in the bottle store for

beer?”The circuit manager

of Zoutpanberg West, Ms Christina Ramovha, appealed to business-people to get involved in promoting local ac-tivities. A representative from the Bruzar group, Mr Rudzani Mampha-ga, stated that his com-pany would continue to sponsor the circuit in the coming years. According to him, the sponsorship will grow with time.

The biggest prize went to the champions in the primary compe-tition, Benny’s Care. They became R3 400 richer. Daniel Mubva Primary went home with R3 000, while the third prize of R2 000 was won by Gogobole Primary.

In the secondary cate-gory, Millige High took the first position and received R3 400. The runners-up, Benny’s Care, collected R3000. Gogobole received

R2 000.Best players primary school player is Divham-

bele Kganakga of Tshikwarani, who received R1 400, a trophy and a gold medal. The second position went to Hector Phaswana of Matavha, who received R1 000 and a silver medal. Boldwin Siphei of Tshilwavusiku Razwimisani Special School, who ended in third position position, took home R500 and a bronze medal.

Leopards to face NFD rookiesBlack Leopards and Mbombela United will face each other at the Thohoyandou Stadium in a Na-tional First Division League match.

A quick glance at Leopards’ track record shows that United will be lucky if they manage to hold Lidoda Duvha to a draw. United have won only two of the six league matches they have played to date. They lost two and shared the spoils on two occasions. On the other hand, the Thohoyandou outfit are sharpened to kill of late.

They collected four points in their last two matches, beating FC Cape Town at home and sharing the glory with Baroka FC away from home.

Leopards will be minus their marksman, Thabo Mashiane, when they face Mbombela United tomor-row.

Mashiane saw red in their game against FC Cape Town at the Tho-hoyandou Stadium three weeks ago.

The strikers of United will not find it easy to penetrate the defence of Leopards, which will be marshalled by Jonathan King, Thivhavhudzi Ndou and Dunga Munganga. Leop-ards’ strikers, Thembisani Nevhu-lamba, Ruggert Nyundu and Leonard Ntshangase, will keep the United defence running for cover.

Moroka Swallows will host Baroka at the Dobsonville Stadium.Baroka

are the only side who have not yet tasted the pain of losing a league match this season. They are currently leading the league. Amazulu will fly to Cape Town, where they will lock horns with FC Cape Town. In the KZN derby, Thanda Royal Zulu and Royal Eagles will meet at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.

Highlandspark will visit Cape Town All Stars at the Athlone Stadium, while Mthatha Bucks will face Witbank Spurs at the Mthatha Stadium in the Eastern Cape.

On Sunday, African Warriors will face Vasco da Gama and Milano United will host Santos.

The Leopards’ overlapping right back, Jonathan King.

Leopards’ fast forward, Leonard Ntshangase.
