Hawaiian Islands Deluxe Tour 2020
Hawaiian Islands Deluxe Experience: 17 April - 03 May 2020
Our last escorted Tour to Hawaii was in 2014. In 2020 it’s not possible to go $ for $
with parity like back then, nor will we repeat that exact itinerary however we will
call on that knowledge & experience – always striving to go one better!
In 2020 we start in Maui, in the south of the Island, at the golf mecca of Wailea.
Next, we visit Lanai to the sensational Manele Bay playing the fabled course twice.
Larry Ellison has spent a lot of his billions remodelling this unique destination and
the huge 61sqm rooms at the Four Seasons Resort are truly amazing.
After this unrivalled luxury it’s down to earth literally with some explosive action:
for the first time for us on tour, to Hawaii “the Big Island”, home to eruptions, lava
flows and exceptional golf. Here we stay at the recently upgraded Westin Hapuna
Beach for 5 blissful nights with sightseeing, world class golf and relaxation time.
Just add Volcanoes.
Next, we fly to Oahu to Waikiki beach for 4 nights to finish off another truly
remarkable golfing experience at one of our favourite hotels in the world - the
forever stunning and graceful Moana Surfrider.
The hotels are brilliant, the dinners and golf amazing but most importantly the
camaraderie amongst our well-travelled group with our hands-on inclusive style is
what makes our tours the ultimate golfing experience.
We are Glenn & Gayle Hedley, the founders of Events Travel (since 1993) presenting,
in conjunction with The Masters 2020, the first series of tours for our newly created
Voyages.Golf leisure golf travel brand.
We are looking forward to catching up with our loyal golfing friends and we also
look forward to welcoming newcomers so please jump on board – we can’t wait
for this one, it’s already got us very excited. Space is limited to manageable numbers
for dining and golf purposes.

16 NIGHTS - 8 ROUNDS + 2 OPTIONAL ROUNDS
FOR DISCERNING TRAVELLERS
Hawaiian Islands Deluxe Tour 2020 April 2020
This Tour includes economy class flights to Honolulu & Maui from
Sydney. Any other routings will need an adjustment as will changing
to a business class cabin. There is no Premium economy service to
Hawaii. Airline surcharges/government taxes are extra and will depend
on your final routing and class of travel – allow between A$220-$250
per person.
Some guests like to arrive earlier or stay longer. This can be arranged
– see the extra night rates for Maui and Oahu in the pricing area.
KEY to included meals:
B= Breakfast Buffet
L= Lunch
D= Dinner
CC = Cocktails & Canapes
Friday 17th MAUI (D)
On arrival at Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG) you will be met and
transferred to our hotel. Check in time is from 2.00pm so be prepared
to have lunch first, then perhaps relax by the pool.
Wailea Beach Resort by Marriott (4 nights)
Ocean view rooms are guaranteed for all tour members.
The resort has been tastefully redesigned and offers stunning views of
the Pacific. Add to that the golf courses being very close by and this is
a perfect relaxed way to start our experience in the Hawaiian Islands.
The afternoon is free to unwind and unpack before getting ready for
our traditional Welcome Dinner. This is your opportunity to meet our
fellow travellers and get to know each other. Tee-times & pairings will
be presented at drinks prior to the welcome dinner.
Saturday 18th MAUI GOLF(B)
After a hearty buffet breakfast (the fresh fruit is always stunning) and
what is usually an early start due to the time difference, we head off
to play our first round of golf. The Wailea Emerald course is located
close by and a shuttle service is provided.
Wailea Emerald
A highly rated course designed by Robert Trent Jones ensures some
memorable holes such as the par-four 4th hole, a dogleg left with small
grass bunkers around the green along with the 10th and 17th, both
featuring water and sharing a double green.
This afternoon is free to relax at the resort. Our tour is as much about
resting and relaxing with golf in the cooler mornings and taking
advantage of the sea breezes in the afternoon. Take a good book or
two.
Sunday 19th MAUI GOLF (B)
Today we head off for golf again, where Robert Trent Jones has created
the most challenging of the 3 Wailea Courses – The Wailea Gold
Course. This course is about risk and reward and good course
management will ensure an enjoyable round.
Wailea Gold
The 6,472-metre Wailea Gold course is a masterfully designed layout.
Its strategic and rugged design takes advantage of the terrain’s natural
undulations and phenomenal ocean vistas, but four to six tee boxes
built into every hole makes it a suitable track for virtually every player.
The afternoon and evening are free to relax and unwind by the pool,
take a stroll on the beach, read a book or take an afternoon nap – it’s
your time to relax after another round of golf in paradise.
Monday 20th MAUI GOLF (B)
Today we head for golf again. Whilst today’s round is included in the
tour some may not wish to play 3 days in a row so you can withdraw
from today’s round and with ample notice, we will credit your account
with the green fee – this will need to occur by final payment time.
Wailea Blue
Considered to be the easier of the 3 courses, this is an excellent course
and offers magnificent views from every hole. With wider and more
forgiving fairways we feel that this takes the pressure off the 3rd round
in as many days, so we have made this course an opt out option.
This afternoon you may wish to head into the nearby township of Kihei
to see how the locals live. This can be arranged with us and if there
are enough interested, we will organise a transfer. It’s a sleepy beach-
combers town with small shops, a farmer’s market and a few sports
bars and cafes. Laid back is an appropriate description.
Tuesday 21st LANAI (B, CC)
After breakfast we will be checking out around 09.00 and travelling by
coach to the old whaling port of Lahaina but before we do that, for the
first-time visitors to Maui we will do a drive by of the Plantation Course
at Kapalua. From here there are magnificent views across to the
islands of Lanai and Molokai. After seeing Kapalua and refreshing
memories from the last tour we head into Lahaina where we will drop
everyone off for 2-3 hours free-time. It’s a small town and easy to walk
around. There is plenty on offer with boutique shops and a local
brewery to be experienced at your leisure.
After lunch we board the Ferry for the 45-minute journey to the island
of Lanai. Upon arrival we will be transferred to our hotel for immediate
check-in.
The island and its hotels are owned by Larry Ellison of Oracle fame and
things have changed in recent years. The Koele golf course has been
de-commissioned and the hotel there is still under reconstruction. The
Four Seasons at Manele Bay however has undergone a complete
reconstruction and our repeat guests will notice significant
improvements on what was already a spectacular property.
Included for all visitors to the resort is a “transport package”. You can
take the shuttle around to the town of Lanai, the port and up to the
Plantation at Koele, which may be finished by the time we arrive.
There you can charge back to your room at Manele Bay. The shuttles
also go to the Club House where you can also charge back to the resort.
Four Seasons Resort Lanai
Our rooms are garden view or partial ocean – luck of the draw. If you
prefer a guaranteed partial ocean or ocean room, please request this
when booking – a surcharge will apply. All rooms here are exceptional,
and the ocean is forever present throughout the property.
Hawaiian Islands Deluxe Tour 2020 Tuesday 21st LANAI (B, CC) SUNDOWNERS
Time to shower and change for dinner. Prior to dinner however, we
have hosted Cocktails & Canapes (at the Four Seasons Resort) whilst
we enjoy the setting sun. Timings will be advised on your final
itinerary. The dress code is smart casual with dress shorts accepted
and Hawaiian shirts and skirts are recommended!
Wednesday 22nd LANAI GOLF (B)
Today we take the shuttle to meet our tee-times at the stunning
Manele Golf Course, the first of 2 rounds on this highly recognised
course. Jack Nicklaus has created what many golfers think is the best
course in Hawaii and you will soon see why.
The views from the course are spectacular as its winds along perfectly
groomed fairways amongst rocky outcrops and ancient lava flows.
Fortunately, there are 4 tee boxes, so once again we will be sensible
about making sure we all enjoy our rounds here! It’s never that busy
so you can certainly relax and enjoy the surroundings to make the
most of what will be a memorable experience with the chance to do it
again tomorrow.
Manele Golf Course
One hole to look out for is the magnificent par-three 12th. Bill &
Melinda Gates figured the tee-box here was the perfect location to get
married, so they did! Here you can try your skill at hitting across the
ocean and the waves below in an intimidating scenario – take an extra
2 clubs!
After a casual lunch snack in the club house its time to shuttle back to
the nearby Resort (5mins) and relax for the afternoon. Take a stroll
along the private beach at Manele Bay, slip into the pool or sit under a
tree with a book – what more could you ask for other than a Mai Tai?
Thursday 23rd LANAI GOLF (B)
There’s nothing better than getting revenge on a signature golf course,
unless of course you had a brilliant round yesterday then the revenge
may be on you!
Manele Golf Course
Not much more can be said about this brilliant course other than get
out there and do your best because this opportunity doesn’t come up
that often.
This afternoon we prepare to leave the island in the morning for the
next part of our adventure, but before-hand enjoy a farewell drink on
the terrace and certainly a delicious dinner at the resort. Nobu
anyone?
Friday 24th HAWAII (B, CC)
After a casual breakfast we board the shuttle to Lanai Airport,
a rather short undertaking, to what is a very small regional
airport. From here we fly via Honolulu to Kona on the Island of
Hawaii, better known as “The Big Island”. Whilst your Tour
Escorts have been here before this is the first time for our golf
tour, so a new experience awaits.
On arrival we will be met and transferred to our hotel.
Westin Hapuna Beach Resort
Our rooms all have a partial ocean view guaranteed as we felt
this was important for a 5-night stay. If you want a full ocean
view, please see the upgrades list after pricing.
Lanai is a hard act to follow but the recently remodelled Westin
will do just fine. Located on a white sandy beach offering
manicured gardens and endless blue skies, what more can you
ask for? The Kohala Coast is known for some of the best
beaches in the Islands and overall the Big Island is known for its
vibrant culture, volcanic activity and centuries old lava-fields.
Prior to dinner we will meet at a designated location to enjoy
Cocktails & Canapes, a feature of our Voyages.Golf tours at
every new location.
The resort offers some great dining options such as the
Mediterranean inspired Meridia, the American styled Ikena
Landing and the more International Naupaka Beach Grill. For
light snacks there is also the Deli Piko. In addition, nearby is the
sister property of Mauna Kea Beach Hotel where you can also
dine and charge back to the Westin. Try Manta, the Copper Bar
and several other options. Use the shuttle van.
Saturday 25th BIG ISLAND GOLF (B)
Most importantly we are here to play golf and over the 4 full
days we have 2 rounds included and 1 optional. Today after
breakfast we play right here at Hapuna which is usually
described as a “rugged Hawaiian beauty”.
Hawaiian Islands Deluxe Tour 2020 Saturday 25th BIG ISLAND (B)
Hapuna Golf Club
It’s true! Arnold Palmer knew what he was doing, and this is again a
course with endless views and dramatic elevation changes from sea
level up to 700 feet in what is mainly desert terrain. The signature
hole at Hapuna is the par-four 12th offering the most spectacular
views on the Big Island.
After a casual lunch we head back to the Resort to relax and unwind –
this will become a very pleasant habit!
The evening is free to explore the many dining options and suggestions
to regroup for company will be offered by your management team.
Sunday 26th BIG ISLAND (B)
Today is a day many will have been waiting for as we head off to
explore the Big Island. A local guide will be taking us into the volcanic
regions of what is a stunning and ecological phenomenon that must be
seen. The lava-flows into the ocean are not accessible by road so you
may wish to consider a helicopter birds-eye view. These flows are not
always occurring either, however the views and access are still
spectacular, and you will feel like you are witnessing Earth’s very
creation just by being there.
Once at Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, we visit popular locations
such as the steam vents at Kilauea Caldera, Kilauea Iki Crater, Chain of
Craters Road, and the opportunity to explore areas on foot as well.
Later we had back to the hotel after a very earthy day!
Note that recent activity has limited some access to the National Park
to visitors. We will be keeping an eye on access come April – our local
tour company is constantly updated with access information. You can
always guarantee access with a helicopter Tour and details will be
forthcoming.
Monday 27th BIG ISLAND GOLF (B)
Lo and behold we are here to play golf so put those comfy shoes on
again and get ready to play another truly wonderful Big Island Course.
Mauna Kea Golf Course
Located very close to our hotel Mauna Kea is a championship course
created in 1964 by Robert Trent Jones Snr on what was once a barren
lava field. Today, lush fairways grace this rough terrain which tumbles
across and along sea cliffs with undulating greens and plenty of white
sand bunkers. The signature hole is the par-three 3rd hole, very similar
to the 12th at Manele Bay, where you will be hitting across the ocean.
After golf and a light lunch in the club house we head back to the resort
to relax and unwind. The beach beckons as does one of the two pools.
Tuesday 28th BIG ISLAND OPTIONAL GOLF (B)
Today is to put it simply Beuller; it’s a day off.
For the more adventurous we have the option of more golf and
Waikoloa Beach Golf Course awaits. When on Tour we will see who
may be interested. The estimated cost with transfers is around
US$250 per person.
Another option is to head into Kona the main township on our side of
the Island or we can also arrange more sightseeing tours to other parts
of the Big Island – more details will be available on Tour and your team
is there to make this all fall into place.
Wednesday 29th WAIKIKI (B, CC)
This morning we have our final buffet breakfast at Hapuna before
packing our bags and transferring to Kona Airport for the flight to
Honolulu.
On arrival in Honolulu we will transfer to our hotel where luggage will
be stored until check in time after lunch.
Moana Surfrider (A Westin Resort & Spa)
When booking you can choose from:
Historic Banyan Ocean: Smaller rooms in the old wing no balcony.
These are in the centre of the image below around the banyan tree
and are very convenient to the lobby – they offer historic charm.
Diamond Ocean: In the newer building to the right. These are more
spacious modern Hawaiian styled rooms with a Juliet balcony facing
the ocean.
The default room type is Banyan Ocean.
Big choice for you; old or new, smaller or larger, character or balcony?
Hawaiian Islands Deluxe Tour 2020
Known as the “First Lady of Waikiki” the oceanfront resort combines
Victorian elegance with modern facilities. The pool is a little
underwhelming however the oceanfront location is unbeatable.
Sitting under the Banyan tree watching the surfers and outrigger crews
do their thing is enthralling.
Wednesday 29th WAIKIKI (B, CC)
Before dinner, which is at your leisure, we present our Cocktails &
Canapes, welcome to Oahu and Waikiki – back to civilisation drinks!
It’s been a day of travelling and the location is much more hectic.
Dinner reservations are a very good idea so when here planning your
dinner well in advance is highly recommended. Tonight, quite frankly,
nothing beats a burger by the sea at the Beach Bar or if you want
something casual but a little more sophisticated The Veranda at the
Beach house also does the trick. Waikiki is teeming with dining options
from around the world.
DINING NEAR OUR HOTEL
One of our favourite places for lunch or dinner is Dukes Waikiki – get
in early with a reservation. The salad bar is a must and people
watching is half the fun. It’s located a short stroll from our hotel.
Other options include; Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse – not cheap but great
quality. P.F Chang’s (Asian) is usually hectic however the food is great
and the service there is too – very tasty! If you want a more casual yet
sophisticated lunch, try House Without a Key for relaxed ambience at
the Halekulani hotel along the beach. Another hotspot is the famous
Royal Hawaiian the sister hotel to ours, known as the Pink Palace,
which is also a short stroll along the beach – a great place for a sunset
drink but like most places in Waikiki it’s busy so allow time and be early
or late.
Thursday 30th OAHU GOLF (B)
Itching for the last round of included golf? Today is the day and what
an adventure it will be. Think Jurassic Park. Think extra golf balls!
Our transfer awaits after breakfast as we head off for a big day out.
Royal Hawaiian Golf Club (Kailua)
Pete Dye has created some of the world’s most challenging and
interesting golf courses and this one is no exception. Here we escape
frantic Waikiki into another world, Jurassic world. Located in the
Maunawili Valley you will find lush fairways and manicured greens
amongst an incredible mountainous back drop which is hard to
describe – did a dinosaur pinch your golf ball or was it simply a
wayward shot never to be seen again?
And…..thank heavens for golf carts!
There will be lost balls, war-stories and disbelief however one thing is
certain; you will have played golf in a truly remarkable setting that will
be hard to forget and whilst there are less-challenging courses, they
are boring by comparison. Afterall we are here to have fun so make
the most of it – we only live once, just ask the Dinosaurs.
On return to the hotel it’s time to have a G&T or a Margarita
overlooking Waikiki Beach before dinner.
Friday 1st May WAIKIKI (B)
Today is a “chill day” after yesterday’s mad antics!
Suggested ideas today include:
▪ Outlet shopping at Waikele (it’s a 45min trip each way)
▪ Tour to Pearl Harbor
▪ Walk up Diamond Head for some amazing views
▪ Mall Shopping at Ala Moana (very good) – there is a free bus.
▪ Hang out on the beach
▪ Take a surfing lesson
▪ Rent a Stand Up Paddle board
▪ Enjoy a long lunch and a nap!
▪ Stroll around Waikiki
▪ All of the above?
How about a nice cold draft beer at the Yard House in nearby Lewers
Street. Plenty of action there with iconic American snacks and lots of
on tap options.
Saturday 2nd OAHU OPTIONAL GOLF (B, D)
Today is our last day on Tour and an optional golf day awaits those
who still have the passion. It will depend on numbers where we go but
we have a few ideas up our sleeves.
For those who don’t want golf, perhaps reconsult the list of ideas
above to fill in your day or consider a start to packing depending on
your departure time tomorrow.
It’s time for our customary Farewell Dinner. Last time we went to
Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and this time its Tanaka of Tokyo.
18.00: It’s customary to start with a warm up drink or two before
dinner which is booked for 19.30. Considering its just a 5-minute walk
from our hotel life couldn’t be much simpler – watch this space for
further details but get ready for a great night out with a Japanese Grill
menu offering something for everyone.
Banyan Ocean or Diamond Ocean?
Hawaiian Islands Deluxe Tour 2020 Sunday 3rd HOMEWARD BOUND (B)
After an early breakfast or breakfast box on the run we transfer by
group to the Airport for flights home. More details will be provided
once we have all the flights in place. If you book your own flights, we
may need to charge for a private transfer at a different time.
