The 2020 JMU lacrosse season is presented by O’Neill’s Grill. BREAKING DOWN THE SERIES JMU and PSU meet for the 35th time this Wednesday, with the Nittany Lions leading 21-13 all-time. The teams have met in eight straight seasons dating back to 2013. JMU has won two in a row against Penn State and is 7-7 all-time in games played at home. Over the past 12 meetings, 10 games have been decided by three goals or less, including six by a single goal. Last time the teams met, JMU won 11-9 at Penn State on March 6, 2019. PETERSON REPEATS A CAA’S TOP ROOKIE Prior to JMU’s off week, Isabella Peterson was named CAA Rookie of the Week for the second straight week. In JMU’s win at High Point, Peterson scored a career-high six goals with one assist for seven points. Peterson tallied three goals in each half to become the first JMU player to record six goals since Kristen Gaudian had six on Feb. 14, 2018 against Virginia Tech. She leads the team with 12 goals and one assist through the first four games. JMU SURGES PAST HIGH POINT FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN JMU earned its third straight win back on Feb. 22 with a 13-8 win at High Point. Isabella Peterson scored a career-best six goals with an assist, and JMU opened the game on an 11-2 run to set the tone. The Dukes held HPU to just one first-half goal and dominated draw controls by a 15-7 margin, which allowed them to out- shoot the Panthers 27-23 (22-15 SOG). In addition to Peterson’s seven points, Daria Lucchesi scored two free-position goals and Katie Checkosky had a goal and season-high three assists. A total of seven Dukes scored a goal in the win. Rachel Matey also had a career-high eight draws, which was one better than HPU as a team, and Emma Johnson had three caused turnovers for the third time in 2020. SCOUTING PENN STATE• The Nittany Lions enter Wednesday with a 4-1 record

following a 22-12 loss last Saturday to Loyola.• PSU averages 15.2 goals per game while conceding

11.0 to its foes.• Maria Auth leads the team with 18 goals and 10 assists,

while Sophia Triandafils has 12 goals and five helpers.• Olivia Dirks leads Penn State with 22 draw controls,

and Kristin Roberto has 14. Kate Love has a team-best seven caused turnovers.

• In goal, Taylor Suplee has 66 saves with a .574 save percentage and 11.24 GAA, to go with 20 ground balls.

• Missy Doherty is in her 10th season leading the program, holding a 115-65 record. She’s also in her 17th season as a head coach, having led CAA-rival Towson until 2010.

teams, with JMU holding a 6-2 lead. It’s also the seventh straight season JMU and RU have played.

SENIOR CLASS RANKS 3RD• The 2020 seniors moved into third place all-time at

JMU with their win at High Point• This year’s class holds a 55-13 record (.809), which is

just eight wins shy of setting the new program record.• The 2019 seniors wrapped up their careers with a 62-

22 (.738) to become JMU’s winningest class.• In the 52-year history of the team, eight classes have

won at least 50 games over their careers.• Aside from the 2019 and 2020 seniors, other classes

with 50 wins include: 2018 (61), 2013 (54), 2007 (51), 2006 (51), 2017 (50) and 2000 (50).

JMU 16TH IN BOTH MAJOR POLLS• JMU ranked 16th in both the IWLCA Division I Coaches

Poll and Inside Lacrosse Maverick Women’s Division I Media Poll.

• The Dukes are the lone CAA school to be ranked.• North Carolina (5-0) remained atop the poll and was

followed by #2 Notre Dame (5-0), #3 Syracuse (6-1), #4 Loyola (4-0) and #5 Florida (4-1).

JMU CAREER WATCH• Four players either rank atop the JMU career charts or

are nearing the top 20 in individual categories.• Maddie McDaniel is second in draw controls (179),

needing just 67 to become the all-time leader. She’s also 12 goals shy of 100 and six points from 100.

• Emma Johnson is tied for fifth all-time with 95 caused turnovers, which is 25 shy of the record. She’s also ninth with 132 ground balls, which is 56 off the record.

• Molly Dougherty is 10th with 317 saves.• Katie Checkosky has 38 assists, which is seven away

from making the top 20 list.

NEARING A BIG MILESTONE• JMU, playing in its 52nd season, is just three wins

away reaching 500 wins for the program’s history.• JMU has an all-time record of 497-313-3, holding a

.613 win percentage.• The Dukes have won 12 conference championships

and made 16 NCAA appearances, highlighted by the 2018 national championship.

PURSUIT FOR FOUR• JMU seeks to become the first team in conference

history to win four consecutive CAA tournament championships this season.

• Last year, JMU became the second team to ever win three straight CAA tournament titles, joining the 2012-14 run of rival Towson.

DOUGHERTY ON TEWAARATON WATCH LIST• Goalkeeper Molly Dougherty was named to the

Tewaaraton Award Watch List, marking the second season she was recognized.

• Dougherty was an Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-American and IWLCA Second Team All-South Region selection after a solid 2019 season. Voted Colonial Athletic Association Goalkeeper of the Year, she finished with a 15-4 record, she ranked third nationally in save percentage (.535) and sixth in GAA (8.49), leading the CAA in both categories.

• She’s 3-1 this season, having made 30 saves through the first four games.

JMU IN OVERTIME GAMES• JMU’s OT win over Virginia Tech marked the fifth straight

season JMU has played in an overtime game.• Since 2016, the Dukes are 6-3 in overtimes.• JMU has been in 32 overtime games since 1984, going 16-16.• The Dukes have played William & Mary to eight overtimes,
