  • Chapter 1 Scotts Gigantic Bike It was early Saturday morning. Scott was practicing on his new bike. Scotts first practice early yesterday morning had not gone very well He ended up falling off and hurting himself.

  • Come on, Scott. Follow me, said Scotts older sister, Dora. But Scott would not take his feet off the ground.

  • Scott was not so sure that he would ever ride his new bike. The bike seemed gigantic to him. Scott felt small sitting on the bike and even smaller since he fell off it this morning. Ill help, said Mom. I will run along and hold the bike. Scott started to pedal down the street. Suddenly, the bike picked up speed. Scott lifted his feet. Then he slammed on the brakes. Mom caught him just before he fell again. Thats it, said Scott. Nothing can help me. I thought I could ride this bike, but I cant .

  • Chapter 2 Dan Helps A few seconds later, Scotts friend Dan cam along. Scott told Dan about his problem riding his new bike. I know what will help. But first I have a little errand to do. I will be back soon. Dan said, smiling. In a few minutes, Dan came back with his bike and helmet. He had a shopping bag, too. Inside there were skateboard knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards. Dan told Scott to put them all on. I grabbed the leg pads that I use for soccer and my shoulder pads from football, said Dan. Oh, I almost forgot. Here is a mouth guard, too.

  • Scott stood there with all of Dans things on, feeling very silly. He had his bike helmet on, too. Scott thought he looked like an astronaut ready for takeoff. Nothing will hurt if you fall now, said Dan. Are you ready? Dan put on his helmet. He and Scott got on their bikes. For the first time, Scott felt that the bike was not so gigantic. Great, said Dan. Lets ride! They rode around the driveway for a little while. Maybe I will just take off the mouth guard, shoulder pads, and knee pads, Scott thought. I do not really need them.

  • Lets ride to that tree, said Dan. Wait a minute. I think I will take off these knee pads. They make it hard to pedal, said Scott.

  • Come on. Lets go, said Dan. Wait. I cannot ride with these other pads on either, said Scott. They will slow me down. Ready, set Go! shouted Dora.

  • Scott was slow at first, but then he started to speed up. Suddenly it felt as if he were riding his old bike instead of the new one. When they stopped at the tree, Scott thanked Dan for his help. I only did what my dad did for me when I got this gigantic bike, said Dan.

  • Chapter 3 Ricks Gigantic Bike Weeks later Rick came by, walking with his older brothers bike. Ricks mom told him the bike was his now. Why arent you riding? Scott asked. I dont think I can ride this gigantic bike, said Rick. Wait, said Dan. In a minute, Dan was back with a big shopping bag. And soon Rick had on all of Dans things. Rick was ready to ride. So off the three boys went!
