    Background

Oracle Primavera is the market leading application for Project Planning and

    Scheduling in the many industries.

The vast majority of participants in these organisations would like to use

Primavera to manage projects both for themselves and on behalf of theirclients.

Key to successful implementation is early, visible, meaningful output to

allow quick gains to be achieved.

    Why Milestone?

Milestone has been implementing Primavera solutions for over 16 years

During this time we have been successful in all business sizes, from very small to

    the largest.

We have used various Implementation Methodologies to maximise the benefit and

    minimise the risk .

    Typically, these follow a standard process and format . . . .

What you need for a full implementation

Have support from all impacted business units at all levels

    Fully understand criteria for success

    Articulate these at early stage

Know what existing internal processes are to be incorporated

Have available resources to implement system

    Make available IT resources

    Culturally accept business disruption

    9/23

    9

    Implementation Methodologies

    . . . . . For some this approach is appropriate, BUT

For many implementations this will not succeed.

This may be due to size, resources, budgets, maturity, ormany other factors.

The reason starts right at the beginning with

    Differences in Understanding:

  • 8/13/2019 15.30 - Mario Sanvitale

    10/23

    10

    Differences in Understanding

    Customer

Knows how his business operates fully (hopefully!)

Doesnt have the same deep understanding of the solution as the supplier

Has an expectation of an end result

    Supplier

Knows his solution fully (again hopefully!)

Doesnt have same deep understanding of the business as the customer

Has an expectation of an end result

  • 8/13/2019 15.30 - Mario Sanvitale

    11/23

    11

    . . . . . . so what?

During implementation understanding grows on both sides to bring:

    Scope creep

Changes to expectations, in functions and output

    Leading to revised deliverables

More resources needed prior to go live

    Altered cultural impact

    New IT requirements

    Longer deployment schedule

    . . . . . delayed benefits

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . added costs

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . reduced enthusiasm

  • 8/13/2019 15.30 - Mario Sanvitale

    12/23

    12

How can we do this better?

What we really want is a solution that is:

    Easy to implement

    Quick to implement

    Minimises business disruptionDelivers productivity early

    Delivers decision support output early

Acts as a knowledge-base in itself

    Is capable of expansion

  • 8/13/2019 15.30 - Mario Sanvitale

    13/23

    13

    What can be done?

Recognising this, we decided to address these needs

We had the experience, and had been witness to some of the

    effects!

The solution we developed was presented to Oracle

It was accepted as an Oracle Accelerate product

Milestone was awarded Oracle Accelerate Specialization

The first Oracle Primavera Partner in the world to achieve this
