HISTORIC ALACHUA

The city of Alachua incorporated officially in 1905 and had apopulation of 526. It already had a post office, hotel, livery andseveral other stores, along with a grist and lumber mill. By 1914, ithad three hotels, numerous shops including a department store,ice plant, electric light plant, waterworks, two cotton gins, two gristmills and bottling works.
