t is official. Nelspruit will now be known as Mbombela. The Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism Isaid that they will abide by this decision from the
courts. The final decision was made in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Thursday last week. The chamber challenged the name change because it believed the process had been flawed. The judge dismissed their application with costs because the name change was gazetted four years ago.The Chamber fought against the name change for years due to the costs involved. Everybody just thinks of the name signage which has to be changed. Although it is difficult to estimate exactly how many there are and what they will cost, one has to bear in mind that Nelspruit is the hub of the area with many
roads leading to it from various directions, and this is why the signage alone is roughly estimated at R10 million,” said Grimbeek.She said the biggest cost of the process will be the change of general plans, title deeds and registered bonds on the deeds.An estimated 90% of the deeds are bonded. Each general plan will cost R15 000 and each deed and each bond on a deed will cost R160 plus a minimum of R3 200 in legal fees, to change. The total for this is an estimated R350 million. The chamber believes the Mbombela local municipality would have to increase rates and taxes by 60% over and above the budgeted increase of R275 million in order to effect the new name.Communities outside Nelspruit that are not part of the name change, such as White River and Hazyview, would also have to incur the costs as they would be affected by the increase in rates and taxes.

VERKIESINGSDAG op 7 Mei het vreedsaam verloop in Lydenburg. Ons het die verkiesingslokale by die stadsaal, die ontspanningsaal en die TPA saal besoek. By die stadsaal en TPA saal was rye vroegoggend redelik lank, maar na 11 uur was die rye oral kort en kon mense binne 10 minute deur die hele proses gaan. Na wat verneem word het rye teen die middag weer hier en daar opgetel. Die atmosfeer was gemoedelik en geen insidente het voorgekom nie en het alles het mooi vlot verloop. Hier en daar was stalletjies van die ANC, die DA en die EFF te sien en Rusoord
Woonstelle het naby die stadsaal lekker p a n n e k o e k verkoop. Ons het as gesin by die TPA saal gestem en is binne 10 minute deur die hele proses.Andre Coetzee

Het iemand gevra of Lindiwe Mazibuku van die DA se lewensdroom waar geword het, deur aan een van die voorste ‘ivy league’ universiteite in die wêreld te gaan studeer? Mens word nie met ’n ‘hop, skip and a jump’ daar aanvaar nie. Dis net die bestes van die bestes wat daar inkom. Ek kyk Maandagaand na die TV nuus... ek luister... en luister weer. SABC2 berig Maandagaand dat een myner doodgemaak is omdat hy Maandagoggend vir werk wou aanmeld. Die klomp staak steeds by Lonmin en die platinummyne in Rustenburg. En SABC 2 sê die stakers blameer vir Lonmin. Let wel, nie die mense wat die mynwerker se dood veroorsaak het nie. Ook nie vir AMCO (die vakbond alias ‘vabond’) wat vir die hele gemors verantwoordelik is nie. In Suid-Afrika word die blaam verskuif. Die persoon met die bloed aan sy hande gaan kruip weg agter ‘organisasies’, agter stakers en agter die ‘armoede’. Plaasmoorde is ook nie ‘moord’ nie. Want die mense is honger. So Boereregte-orginasies moet hulle geliefdes begrawe, want ander mense is arm. Moordenaars moor nie vir geld nie, soms net ’n selfoon. Dis die waarheid. Hulle moor vir die geweld. En verkrag vir die lekker. Die SABC is ongetwyfeld in iemand se ‘agtersak’ want die SABC het nog steeds nie na die moordenaars van die ‘mynwerker’ verwys nie. Kan mens nou verlede week se verkiesing agterweë laat sonder kommentaar? Foto op foto is geneem van stembriewe wat in swartsakke weggegooi is, meeste met die kruisie by die DA. Die OVK (IEC) kondig aan die verkiesing was vry van korrupsie en regverdig. Sou daardie duisend of drie stembriewe dan nie ’n verskil gemaak het nie? Maar sonder om eers al die klagtes te ondersoek, word die verkiesingsuitslae bekend gemaak. Jip, ek wonder. Veels geluk SA is 20 jaar oud. My genade. “Cry me a river”. Ek bly in ’n land wat in 1652 ontdek is. En ek bly in ’n land wat reeds vir 20 jaar demokratiese verkiesings hou. Maar nie 20 jaar oud is nie. Die ANC het net na ons ‘verjaardag’ verwys vir weke. Daar is ’n groot verskil. Die Oscar mediasirkus moet nou ophou. Daar is soveel erger misdaad in hierdie land. En dit suig aan die agterspeen in die media. ’n SA dokter wat skuldig bevind is aan verkragting, se storie het ook ‘weggekruip’ in die nasionale media’. Dis net so erg as Wouter Basson. Dis ’n minder bekende Apartheid skandaal. Aubrey Levin het in die 1970, en 80’s met onder meer skokterapie en chemiese kastrasie ge-eksperimenteer op troepe by 1 Millitêr. Dit was om hulle van hul homoseksuele gedrag te ‘genees’. Daarna het hy in Kanada gaan wegkruip as sielkundige. Ander (nuwe) seksskandale het hom daar ingehaal. Ironies genoeg, seksuele mollestering van mans.

Conrad Marnewick, oud-leerling van Hoërskool Lydenburg, het sy graad in
Meganiese Ingenieurswese aan die Universiteit van Pretoria verwerf. Die
gradeplegtigheid het plaasgevind op 16 April 2014. Hy is tans besig met opleiding
in die Kongo voordat hy in Junie as werknemer van die internasionale
oliemaatskappy Weatherford na die VSA vertrek.
OP 5 Mei het van die lede van die Vroue Landbou Unie Aalwyntak vroeg-vroeg by die SAVF op Roossenekal bymekaar gekom. Daar is lap uitgesoek, patrone afgetrek, uitgeknip en siedaar die stikwerk aan die sakke begin. Wat ’n aangename “werksdag”. Die Aalwyntak kom elke tweede Woensdag in die maand bymekaar, afwisselend op Roossenekal by die SAVF en in die AP Kerksaal te Laersdrift. Alle dames is baie welkom. Frik Rousseau VF+ Nasionale Federale MP Raadslid skryf: Ek het voor die verkiesing voorspel dat die ANC Nasionaal ten spyte van skandale 65% stemme op hulle sal verenig. Ek was verkeerd. Die ANC het met 62,15% gewen. Kom ons wees met mekaar eerlik. Die ANC weet van verkiesings wen. Die party doen dit al 20 jaar lank. Die party het steeds die beste grondvlak- veldtog van alle partye gevoer. Duisende ANC- leiers het letterlik van deur-tot-deur geloop en vir mense gevra om weer vir hulle te stem. Dit is onbetwisbaar dat miljoene mense vandag beter daaraan toe is as in 1994. Miljoene mense het water, elektrisiteit, behuising en werk gevind. In ’n Provinsie soos Limpopo het die ANC met 78,6% gewen. In Mpumalanga het die ANC met 78.2% gewen en In die Oos-Kaap met 70.10%. In die Vrystaat met 69.8%, en in Kwazulu- Natal met 64.50%. Ek het voor die verkiesing voorspel dat Julius Malema se party EFF 2% stemme gaan werf. Weereens was ek verkeerd. Want sy party het Nasionaal 6.13% behaal. In Limpopo en in Noordwes is hy na die ANC die tweede sterkste party. In Gauteng het hy baie goed gedoen. In Gauteng waar die ANC met ’n volsterkte meerderheid gewen het, het Malema se party 10.2% behaal. Ons as die VF+ party het landswyd met 13% gegroei. Ons het ’n setel in Noordwes bygekry, al ons vorige setels behou en het nou provinsiale verteenwoordigers in Gauteng, Vrystaat en Noordwes, asook vier setels in die Parlament. In die proporsionele stelsel soos in SA speel die belange party altyd ’n rol. Soos die Groen Party in Duitsland omgewingsake lewendig hou, wil ons die minderheidsregte lewendig hou. Dankie aan my vrou Andri, binnekringvriende en vriendinne, wat my tydens hierdie lang uitmergelende verkiesingsveldtog bygestaan het. Dankie ook aan die SAPD onder leiding van kol. Putter vir uitstekende beskerming tydens die verkiesing. Dankie vir die OVK se hoof Boyzi Mkosi in
Thaba Chweu vir ’n vrye en regverdige verkiesing. Laaste maar nie die minste nie, dankie vir elke persoon wat vir die VF+ in Mpumalanga gestem het. As u enige probleme op enige terrein ondervind skakel my gerus by 073 913 7534.

Mar-Louise wins international awardin Turkey
Mar-Louise Fouche , f rom Lydenburg, was announced as the winner o f the p res t ig ious International award, in the age group 13-16 yrs, Festival Model & Talent World 2014. She also won the award for Best Evening Dress. The event was held in Antalya, Turkey from 20 April to 30 April 2014.Mar-Louise represented South Africa at the International final event of Festival Model & Talent World, competing against 43 other countries. The National Director for Festival Model & Talent SA, Mrs Amanda Kriel accompanied Mar-Louise and her mother, Elize to Europe and represented SA on the International Panel of Jury. Mar-Louise also represented SA last year May, in the final event of Best Child Model of the World 2013 in Varna, Bulgaria and won Best Africa Continent winner as well as Best Photo Model of the World 2013.

Kies uit ’n hoender-op-die-spit of ’n potjiekos ete. Kaartjies is vooraf te koop. Saterdagoggend gaan die tafels kreun van al die lekkernye vanaf 08:00. Daar is ook baie stalletjies waar almal die basaar kan ondersteun.

THE strangely named Trident Iceni Magna you see on the right isn’t simply a flight of fancy. It is in fact a specialist British sports car brand that’s been kicking around since 2008 – Trident has produced a sports car – the Iceni; which it’s billing as the ‘world’s fastest and most fuel-efficient diesel sports car ever.’
With a 6.6-litre V8 turbo diesel at its heart and a ‘torque multiplying’ six-speed automatic gearbox; courtesy of technology patented by Iceni themselves, the sports car’s redline is only 3000rpm and that means at a cruise the Iceni will sit below a frugal 1000rpm. The V8 oil-burner develops 317kW and a massive 1285Nm of torque.
The performance figures are therefore pretty handy at 0-100kph in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 305kph. But the low-revving, ‘torque multiplying’ transmission allows a fuel consumption figure in the region of 5l/100km at a cruise. A large fuel tank means a cruising range of over 3000km per tank is achievable.
Trident say they’ll eventually build an Iceni convertible and an Iceni station wagon, called the Venturer, as well. Trident will build the Iceni in small numbers so customers will be able to individualise the interior extensively. The starting price is £96 000, or just over R1.7-million. Owners best drive them a lot to get their money back in fuel-saving.

HONDA Motor Southern Africa has officially released the third model to join its Civic range, the Tourer. First shown at the Johannesburg International Motor Show last year, the wagon version of the Civic is now offered with the choice of two models. Although both models are called Executive, the main difference is the six-speed manual gearbox and the five-speed automatic transmission.
Powering both models is Honda’s 1,8-litre iVTEC, four-cylinder petrol engine. It develops 104 kW at 6 500 r/min and 174 N.m at 4 300 r/min. These are the same transmissions and engine as used in the Civic hatchback. The result is a claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 9,5 seconds for the manual and 11,3 seconds for the automatic version. Top speed is said to be 210 and 205 km/h respectively. According to Honda fuel consumption is 6,6 litres per 100 km for the manual and 6,7 for the automatic vehicle.
The luggage compartment is where the Tourer has a trick up its sleeve. Although the Tourer is only 235 mm longer than its hatchback sibling, it offers a claimed 573 litres of luggage space up to the horizontal tonneau cover. Fold the rear seats down, and this figure increases to 1 065 litres. Interestingly, the rear suspension system features an adaptive setting. Apart from the driver having the choice between comfort, normal and dynamic, the system also takes into account the load in the rear of the car.
It seems there is absolutely no difference in the specification level between these two cars except for the drivetrain. This means that both cars come with a brake system which includes ABS, EBD and EBA. There is also Honda’s VSA stability system, hill start assist (HSA) and a tyre deflation warning system. Finally there is also six airbags. The result is a five-star EuroNCAP rating.
The Civic Tourer is manufactured at Honda’s UK plant in Swindon, and will be priced from R360 000 for the manual, and R374 000 for the auto. This pricing includes a five-year/90 000 km service plan. Service intervals are every 15 000 km.

NO self-respecting car buyer would skip the chance of taking a desired vehicle out for a spin before closing the deal. In fact, for these individuals who are careful with their money, they would even get behind the wheel of several competing car models just to make sure they’re making the wisest decision.
The dealership would be more than happy to grant the request although the best that they would offer is to let the car be driven for a few blocks. Any sort of wild driving is, of course, discouraged since staff would be joining the short ride.
Things get more difficult if you intend to buy a 4x4. You may just have to trust the brochure or a video presentation at the dealership because to test drive that brand-new 4×4 to an off-road trail would be next to impossible.
In a way, this has inspired Isuzu Philippines Inc. to organize an annual event wherein loyal customers and prospective buyers could explore the capabilities of an Isuzu 4×4 pickup in a controlled environment.

In fact, in the case of the Pampanga leg, IPC was joined by representatives from the INTECO Group (a group of Isuzu dealerships led by its president Raymund Jarina) who were ready to assist buyers who were able to test drive the 2014 D-Max 4×4 pickup.
“This five-leg event is perfect for those buyers who want or will be spending some time off the pavement. Here they will personally experience and appreciate the 2014 D-Max’s 235mm ground clearance, of how stable this pickup is when driven tilted 40 degrees sideways, or why this pickup’s approach (30 degrees) and departure (22 degrees) angles are superior when negotiating steep inclines, deep mounds and uneven surfaces,” described IPC Senior Vice President Arthur Balmadrid.
The whole track, designed by 4×4 driving and adventure expert Beeboy Bargas takes the driver and occupants to a series of obstacles meant to punish the pickup. “With the D-Max 4×4 Drive Series, we want to show the capabilities of our pickup, that we are not afraid to put the D-Max to extreme tests. We also want to prove how potentially fun and safe off road driving is. After a few rounds, who knows, you might also realize that the 4×4 2014 D-Max is the perfect ride for you!” said Izumina.

191kW and 325Nm and drives either the front wheels or all four through Nissan’s Xtronic CVT. 18-inch rims are standard, while
20-inch machine-polished alloys are optional. Nissan has added a suite of driver a s s i s t a n c e s y s t e m s including four onboard cameras , th ree radar s y s t e m s , b l i n d s p o t monitoring, forward collision warning, cross traffic alert and intelligent cruise control.
The Murano will be built in the USA primarily for that market. Sadly, Nissan has yet to give the go ahead for Europe, let alone South Africa. However, with all-new Qashqai, X-Trail and now Murano, Nissan’s crossover SUV stock is certainly looking up.

THE Ford Escort nameplate is back but not quite where you’d expect to see it. Unveiled at the recent Beijing Auto Show in China, the Blue Oval brand has debuted an all-new Escort budget car which will be produced in China, for the Chinese market. But you never know; we might be seeing the popular nameplate returning to South Africa? Ford officials have said they’d contemplate the consumer-focused offering in other world markets.
The cash-conscious phenomenon of manufacturers making down-market cars for emerging markets is gaining momentum around with the likes of the Datsun, Renault / Dacia Sandero, and now Ford has initiated a joint venture with Changan to use its ‘global C-car platform’ to produce the new Escort. The global C-car platform also accounts for the Ford Focus in Western markets.
The Escort borrows a lot of styling input from Ford of Australia while the research and engineering took place under the auspices of Ford Asia Pacific. So you can think of the Escort as a global car of sorts that follows Ford’s ‘One Ford’ global design language.
No power or fuel consumption figures are available as yet but the Escort will be powered by a simple 1.5-litre four-cylinder Ti-VCT petrol engine. It’s the interior features of this budget car that will probably surprise you: electric power steering, six airbags, Bluetooth and the ability to dock a mobile phone, MP3 player or portable satellite navigation system. Should it be made available in South Africa?

BRITISH ministers have created a public health crisis by “blindly” promoting diesel cars, a top Government adviser said last week. Professor Frank Kelly, chair of the Department of Health’s committee on air pollution, said successive governments have taken the “wrong route” for decades by encouraging drivers to switch from petrol. He said diesel engines – championed since the 1970s because they were thought to emit fewer greenhouse gases – could be responsible for more than 7000 deaths a year in Britain.
Diesel now fuels more than half of UK-registered cars, up from 14 percent in 2000. They generate far less carbon dioxide than petrol vehicles, so have been favoured in the tax system. But in recent years scientists realised diesel produces more particles and nitrogen oxides that can cause a variety of long-term health problems. While catalytic converters have rapidly improved in petrol cars, advances have been slower in diesel until very recently. The toxic fumes pumped out by diesel cars were behind the smog which blanketed Britain at the beginning of April.
Professor Kelly, of King’s College London, blamed the diesel boom on the panic of the 1970s fuel crisis and the ‘climate change agenda’ which followed, adding: “We have had a vast penetration of diesel vehicles into the transport sector. Diesel drives all our buses, drives all our taxis and drives one in two of the cars on the road.”
One of the reasons for its soaring popularity has been tax incentives. Road tax is based on carbon dioxide emissions, meaning petrol drivers pay more. But Professor Kelly said the climatic benefits of diesel engines had been overemphasised. Calling for all diesel cars older than five years to be banned in cities, he said: “Clearly they do emit a
lot more particulate matter from their exhausts than the petrol equivalent. And one of the technological advances has actually been the exhaust system generating nitrogen dioxide to burn the particulates off.
“We’ve walked somewhat blindly into the situation where a modern diesel vehicle actually emits a lot of nitrogen dioxide, which was a pollutant we were really trying to deal with.” Around 29 000 deaths a year are linked to air pollution in Britain – and Professor Kelly said roughly 25 percent could be attributed to diesel emissions.
Dr Jeremy Langrish, of Edinburgh University, said air pollution causes strokes, asthma and heart failure. He added that it is “difficult not to draw a correlation with the similar effects that we see with cigarette smoke, which we all recognise are bad for us.”

Die Bosboktak van die SA Jagters hou Saterdag 17 Mei ’n spanskietdag te Ly d e n b u r g . D i s v i r m a a t s k a p p y e , kontrakteurs en myne. Dit is by die Lydenburg skietbaan op 17 Mei en dit begin om 09:30. Die Egbert Hiemstra skietbaan is net buite Lydenburg so 2km op die Roossenekalpad aan die regterkant (langs die vliegveld).Die doel is om skuts van die mynbou en privaatsektor te laat meeding. Spanne sal hul passie vir skiet kan uitleef, netwerk en in die gemeenskappe waar hulle woon en werk teruploeg. Die top spanne wen ’n jagpakket en die

wild word geskenk aan die ouetehuise, skole ens. Enige span (maatskappy, myn of kontrakteur) van vyfskuts is welkom om te kom skiet of te net om te kyk. Daarom word daar spesiaal ook vir die dames en juniors plek gemaak by die skiet. Een dames en junior span het reeds ingeskryf. Die Rooiboktabel sonder rus vir die mans (dames en juniors rooibok met rus) gaan geskiet word en behels 9 skote wat op onderskeidelik: 200m - lê houding (3 x skote\rondtes)100m - sithouding (3 x skote\rondtes)50m - staanhouding (3 x skote\rondtes) geskiet word.Die vlakvarktabel75m - 3 x skote (staan met skietstokke)50m - 3 x skote (staan)25m - 3 x skote snapskiet 5 x sekondes per skoot (staan) Inskrywing: R150 per person = R750 per span van vyf.Inskrywingsgelde sluit in sertifikaat, worsbroodjie, koeldrank en Bosboksakwapen. in die April kompetisie. Steven Kruis van die Gone Fishing Hengelklub en Gert Smit van die Hoedspruit Hengelklub.
Die Gone Fishing Hengelklub van Lydenburg se lede was die afgelope tyd baie aktief. Gedurende Maart het hulle ’n hengelkliniek te Kwênadam gehou. Gone Fishing Hengelklub en die Hoedspruit Hengelklub het sake uitgespook. Lydenburg se klub het 15kg vis gevang en die besoekers 8kg. Armand Oosthuizen het ’n reuse bydrae gelewer tot die oorwinning met al sy vangsste. Hy was die algehele klubwenner vir die kompetisie. In die April kompetisie was die weer ongunstig maar party lede het ’n 33-uur sessie aangepak Hul passie vir die
sportsoort is erg beproef. D i e v o o r a f g a a n d e kouefront , wisselende l u g d r u k e n weersveranderinge was maar ’n paar elemente wat dit uitdagend gemaak het. 28 visse is ingeweeg. Veels geluk aan Cornél Oosthuizen wat eerste en tweede plek ingepalm het met twee mooi karpe. Herkie Jansen was derde. Mooi kurpers van 1kg is aangekeer deur Jaco p.
Lambrecht en Jaques Oosthuizen. Die ‘lucky hour fishing’ is gewen deur Steven Kruis met sy vangs van ’n karp. ‘Gone Fishing Hengeklub bedank graag Neels Muller (Lumcor) vir sy skenking, Barries Barnard vir die ‘exclusive baits’ as nuttige prys.
