WELCOME TO THE 11TH BFI FUTURE FILM FESTIVAL The UK’s most important film industry Festival for young, emerging filmmakers!
Join us for four days of incredible masterclasses, industry workshops, panel Q+As and networking opportunities that will inspire you to make films and give you the industry insights you need to pursue a career in the film, TV and creative industries. The Festival programme has been specifically curated around three key themes of Storytelling, Production and Craft Skills, and The Business of Film, and all our events feature incredible film professionals from across the industry.
If you’re a filmmaker (which you probably are) you’ll also need to watch a lot of films and check out the competition. Our team of young programmers have selected some cracking feature films, and curated four programmes of short films submitted to the Festival by young emerging filmmakers (aged 16-25) from across the globe. Our Festival Awards Ceremony takes place on first day of the Festival this year so you have the opportunity to check out the award-winning and nominated films over the course of the Festival.
We’re incredibly excited this year to welcome our new Headline Partner LaCie – designers of world class storage solutions for creatives. We’re delighted to have their support for the Festival, our Future Film Lab Award and our Future Film programme year round. Be sure to look out for special sessions delivered in partnership with them across the Festival.
We’d also like to give a huge shout out to our friends at The London School of English/ LondonSchool Trust who are helping us to make the Festival truly international including TWO International awards to give away this year. Big love to all our Festival partners, friends and industry professionals for all their support; a huge thank you to all the amazing young people we work with to programme and deliver the Festival; spuds to all our amazing colleagues at BFI; and most of all, thank you for coming!
Oh and finally, make sure you make the most of our networking opportunities atthe Backstage area, in partnership with LaCie (more info opposite) and get to our FREE dailynetworking drinks events, chat to our industry guests and find people to collaborate with.
Have an amazing festival, take all the opportunities you can, make friends, make contacts, and make films!

SHORTSMODERN LIFEHow would you describe modern life? For some, it is their relationship to technology that defines it. For others, the perpetual bombardment of information, sounds, lights and colours is the key to formulating a definition. The current political situation, the way we organise work and communicate with others are other important elements of the modern life puzzle. This selection of shorts explores what it means to live in the 21st century.

SHORTSFEMALE PORTRAITSWe celebrate the diversity of female experiences presented by this year’s young filmmakers. There are portraits of girls and young women who experience difficult and traumatic situations, and find their own path and voice within these challenging and unusual environments. There are also personal and intimate accounts of everyday struggles that female protagonists go through. What these short films have in common is their unique perspective on strong women characters.
