Padre’s Pen ~The Band-Aid Pastor

Many of you may remember the old advertisement for Band-Aids… “I am stuck on Band-Aid brand, ‘cause Band-Aid’s stuck

on me.” Now that I’ve been installed as your pastor, looks like we are all stuck on each other

It is a great blessing to be named as your pastor; it means a great deal to me. Because military priests serve in chapels and military units, they do not get named as pastors. With most of my priestly vocation thus far as a military chaplain, I am now named a pastor after 21 years of priesthood. It is a milestone in my life, and I am so pleased it is with the good people of New Prague at St. Wenceslaus, St. John, and St. Scholastica.

I would not have come thus far in my life without the help, guidance, and patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I plan to re-consecrate myself to her patronage through the “33 Days to Morning Glory” program. This is a great little 33-day consecration through the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception. This is also a great group program (which I have run in previous places) but with the current COVID-19 restrictions it may be a little difficult. Nevertheless, I invite anyone who would like to join me in this consecration to please do so through home study.

I will be making my consecration on Saturday, August 15th at the morning Mass at St. John in Union Hill. That means the start date for the study will be Monday, July 13th. If you would like to join with me, the books/material are available on-line through www.allheartsafire.org, Amazon, etc. and the videos can be found on Formed.org (though you will only be able to watch the first video during the free trial then will probably have to subscribe to view the rest). You may want to gather a small group together to enhance the experience.

I ask that you let me know via e-mail if you are doing the program and I will work to have the consecration certificates ready for you on August 15th.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has been so supportive, and I look forward to many years ahead with you.

Ad Christum per Mariam,Fr. Theisen

Saint Alphonsus Liguori(to pray anytime you are unable to physically participate in Communion)

My Jesus,I believe that You

are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul.Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already thereand unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.Amen.

God Bless the Newly BaptizedWelcome and congratulations to Sutton ElizabethBauer, daughter of Corey & Emily Bauer, andEloise Marie Eklund, daughter of Brandon & Bai-ley Eklund. We rejoice with your families on this joyful occasion!

More than a garden ornamentPeople were surprised to hear the name Pope Francis chose for himself when he was elected. He explains in Laudato Si: "I believe that Saint Francis is the example par excellence of care for the vulnerable and of an in-tegral ecology lived out joyfully and authentically. He is the patron saint of all who study and work in the area of ecology, and he is also much loved by non-Christians. He was particularly concerned for God's creation and for the poor and outcast." (10)

He went on to explain how Francis can be a mentor for all who care for the earth and humanity: "He loved, and was deeply loved for his joy, his generous self-giving, his open heartedness. He was a mystic and a pilgrim who lived in simplicity and in wonderful harmony with God, with others, with nature and with himself. He shows us just how inseparable the bond is between concern for nature, justice for the poor, commitment to society, and interior peace." (10)

Reflect and act:~ Have you taken time during the pandemic’s disruption to our usual busy lives to reconnect with nature? Step outside, take a deep breath and look around you. Find 10 things in creation you can thank God for.~ Have you read about the disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on the disadvantaged? If you have the means, donate to the Peace Center or to our local Catholic Chari-ties. https://www.cctwincities.org/donate/

Social Justice ProjectAre you accumulating a whole lot of plastic groceries bags at your house? Due to the Coronavirus, we have not been able to use our cloth bags. Let’s keep them out of our landfills and put them to good use to make sturdy crocheted mats for the homeless. We will begin by gath-ering your plastic grocery bags and laying them out flat on a pile. Stay tuned for further instructions.

FAITH FORMATION ANDYOUTH MINISTRY

We say good-bye to Emily Shimota ~To the St. Wenceslaus/New Prague Area Catho-

lic Community,

It is with mixed emotions that I write this letter. I have been offered a position at Bethlehem Academy as the high school Theology Teacher and Campus Minister. While I am thrilled to accept this amazing opportunity, it is with sadness that I tell you I am leaving my position here at St. Wenceslaus.

I am so grateful for all of you. Thank you for being won-derful youth, families, colleagues and friends. I will miss you but please keep in touch! Please call or email me and I will give you my personal contact information. I will also continue working here through July before I of-ficially start my new position in August, so we still have a little time

My time at St. Wenceslaus has meant so much to me, and I feel so lucky and blessed to have been able to serve you as Youth Minister. Thank you for everything. I plan to continue to be connected and part of this won-derful community and look forward to continued rela-tionships with you.

I hope that you will pray for me as I embark on this new journey. You all are in my thoughts and prayers each day, and I know that God has great plans for each one of us.

Blessings to you all, Emily
