I also would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude to you and your organization for your continued support. Your participation in officiating will be greatly appreciated; having officials from various styles of karate assures fairness to the competitors.

Awards:

rd & 4

th place will receive medals in Kata, Kumite and Kobudo.

Adult Black belt Grand Champions will be awarded six foot trophies.

Youth 17 years and under Black Belt Grand championships will be awarded

four foot trophies.

Competitors

Dress Code:

Traditional white uniform (Gi), No jewelry while competing. Nails must be

trimmed.

Referee

Dress Code:

White shirt, blue tie, navy blue blazer, gray slacks, black shoes. No Jewelry

Kata:

Contestants must perform Japanese/ Okinawan katas.

All katas will be performed simultaneously, except 16-17 & adult black belt

divisions.

Beginner/Novice must perform rank appropriate katas Taikyoku, Heians, Pinan,

Gekisai, Tioshi shodan, Naihanchi Katas, Konchabo, and Fukyugatas.

Beg. / Nov. & Int. Divisions can repeat the same kata in all rounds except the medal

rounds; competitors must perform a different kata.

Black Belts may perform any level kata. Black belts 18-34 must perform a different

kata in each round and cannot repeat any katas.

Weapons:

Modified USA KARATE kobudo rules. Only recognized Okinawan kobudo katas

will be allowed. Traditional weapons of proper weight and design. Bo, sai, tunfa, eku,

kama, etc… New York state law prohibits the use of Nunchoku.

Sparring:

Modified World Karate Federation rules (WKF).

Beg. / Nov. & Int. One minute stop time, 8- point system.

Adult black belts : Female 2 minutes stop time, Male 3 minutes stop time

35 and over 2 minutes running time.

Equipment:

WKF style Protective equipment for hand, feet, groin cup, white Chest protector

and mouth protector. Safety glasses with restraining band.

incur, if any, while participating or attending and hereby waive all claims against promoters, operators sponsors, judges, officials, opponents and their families and Island Garden Arena, of said karate tournament, and that any medical treatment given me will be of a first aid type only. I further submit that I am in good physical condition and have my doctor’s approval to compete in this event.
