Feature event
It tis’ the perfect time in November to start planning your holiday parties. Host a warm and inviting holiday party with festive friends, appetizing hors d’oeuvres and merry cocktails at your home or at the club. This season make sure to have your party early in the month or right after the holiday and not compete for the Saturday before Christmas.
The best planned holiday menus will include 3-4 passed Hot and Cold Hors d’oeuvres, a selection of 4-5 displayed items and a Carv-ing Station. Passed items may include Crab Cakes, colorful Stuffed Mushrooms with Spin-ach, Red Peppers and Gouda Cheese, Egg-plant, Asparagus and Boursin Rolls, Cocktail Shrimp, Prosciutto Wrapped Pineapple and Fruit Kabobs with chocolate for dipping. A mouth-watering carving station of Roast Beef, Lamb with Rosemary or grilled Pork Tender-loin, thinly sliced and served with a variety of dipping sauces and rolls will complete your meal.
While planning and creating your menu, make sure to choose food that’s easy for your guests to eat at the same time as they mingle and so-cialize, often whilst standing. Also, be sensi-tive to guests with possible food allergies and always have a vegetarian selection. Holiday Displays are best presented with food exhib-ited in a creative style utilizing color, texture and height on your table and be sure to set the stage by having holiday music softly playing in the background.
Lastly, don’t forget to make your party memo-rable by having a small parting gift for your guests; such as a Peppermint Tea Candle tied with a Green Ribbon. Remember, whether you are throwing your holiday party yourself or employing your club to take care of the menu, it’s the little details that will make your event “Party Perfect”. “Tis’ the Season”! November has arrived and so begins the holiday season. It brings the opportunity to celebrate with family and friends, including the ones we have all made over the years at PYC.
Be sure to take full advantage of the events and activities that we have planned at the club during the last two months of the year. Don’t
forget about the outstanding meal that our club staff prepares for us Thanksgiving. In De-cember, our Annual Lighted Boat Parade will be held on Saturday, the 4th. We encourage not only our members’ participation but friends and acquaintances from around the lake are always welcome to participate in the parade or just to come out to see the lights. Don’t forget the Family Holiday Party scheduled for December 19th and of course the New Year’s Eve Celebration that I, for one can attest is always a great time.
I would like to take a brief moment to extend many thanks our staff for the outstanding job they have done this year. We have enjoyed many events this year in a time where staff-ing and budgets can be quite a challenge. Whether it be the Family Fun Day, Poker Run, P-Cup or Lighted Boat Parade they can always be counted on to put together a Successful, enjoyable event.
To all of our members, their families and our wonderful staff at PYC have a safe and enjoy-able holiday season!

Boating Skills &
EducationClasses ETHANOL
First of all what is Ethanol? “Ethanol is a natural oxygenated fuel produced by fermenting organic materials such as corn, grains, crop and forestry waste ma-terials”. How does ethanol affect your boat and is our gas ethanol free…? These are just a few of the questions that everyone wants to know! First of all our fuel is ethanol free and will stay that way as long as we are able to get ethanol free
gas. There are potential problems that can arise for boats that use ethanol gas. Anything from the deterioration of hoses, fuel tanks and the engine it self, especially in older models. While searching the web I found this interesting bit of information from www.moondogofmaine.blogspot.com;“An article in a recent Wall Street Journal points to serious problems for boaters as a result of ethanol being used to replace MTBE as an additive in gasoline”.“According to the article, condensed water in the boat’s fuel tank causes the ethanol to separate from the gasoline. This creates a situation where the bottom of the tank has an ethanol and water mix and the upper part of the tank has a seriously reduced octane fuel. Engines don’t like to run on reduced octane fuel, and they really don’t like being force fed ethanol and water. Two stroke outboards, twenty years old and older, are particularly sensitive to this and can be permanently damaged. The article fur-ther contends that all older hoses and components made with natural rubber (including O-rings) will be damaged and that ethanol is very caustic to fiberglass and possibly also to aluminum fuel tanks”.“According to the article, which quotes a spokesman from BOAT/US, Chuck Fort, a purported ex-pert on boat maintenance, ethanol is a powerful solvent. Separated from the gasoline, it will dissolve the residue on the inside of the tank and further contaminate the fuel with particles and debris. It will also, according to Fort, accelerate deterioration in fiberglass and possible aluminum fuel tanks. Fort went on to say that owners of boats with fiberglass tanks will have to replace the tanks”

What is ethanol and how would it affect your boat engine? This is a question that has become more and more common. Please take part in this Q and A work shop that will discuss in detail the topic of ethanol.

Time- 10:00 am -12:00 pmWinterize or not, Bilge heaters??
Plan to attend for a wealth of information.
MARINA MANAGER REMINDERCheck Your Boat…!Remember not to get caught up in the hussle and bustle of the holiday season and forget to check your boat. During the winter months it is too easy to put your boat up and forget about. Boats are more susceptible to damaged-during harsh winter months, hoses become brittle, batteries become weak and breakers trip leaving your vessel without power, just to list a few. Whether you’ve winterized com-pletely or are utilizing a bilge heater, check your boat! If you don’t periodically check your boat the end result could be very costly!

PYC BOATS SWEEP FIRST PLACE IN LEUKEMIA CUP REGATTA!October 2, 2010, Lake Norman. The first annual Leukemia Cup Regatta, organized by Roger and Martha Staley of Newton, NC and hosted by Out-rigger Yacht Club was sailed under blue skies and light winds. First Place in the Spinnaker Class went to Robbie Lowrance in “Bone Chillin.” First in the Non-Spinnaker Class went to “Lovit” owned by Steve and Shari Marcus, and sailed by Alan Deal. Clement and Vickie Caddell aboard “Tethys” took First
Place in the Cruising Class.PENINSULA CUP ROUNDUP
29 sailboats converged on the starting line Saturday, September 17th for the 18th annual Peninsula Cup Regatta, sponsored by the Hendrick Luxury Group. Sailing conditions were favorable, and the fleet, divided into three classes, completed two races. On Sunday, the winds went light and only two classes completed their race. Congratulations to Emily and B.J. Jones, sailing the Ultimate 20 “Rumbullion” out of the Lake Norman Yacht Club as the overall Peninsula Cup winner, and to the Outrigger Yacht Club for narrowly winning (again) the inter-club trophy.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to Loraine Vienne, Harry Smith, and the entire staff of PYC for their hard work and support in making this a successful event. Thanks also to CANNON School for their additional support, and we look forward to next year.
