COMMITTEE & PARTNERS
Welcome to Tasmania’s premier writers festival. For three days you will be immersed in the magical world of words in one of Tasmania’s most picturesque valleys. Organised entirely by a dedicated team of volunteers, the Tamar Valley Writers Festival offers masterclasses, conversations, panel discussions and Q&As covering all genres of writing around the theme: Tasmania on the Global Page.
I urge you to book early to ensure your seat to hear from more than 60 of Australia’s finest authors and guest speakers. We guarantee you will be enlightened, educated, and above all entertained. Earlybird ticket prices in this program are available until 3rd August.
This year the Festival shifts from the gold-mining town of Beaconsfield to the Tamar Valley Resort, Grindelwald, just a short 20-minute drive from Launceston. All but a handful of events in the program will be staged at the Resort, and we invite you to the official cocktail opening, a writers’ barbecue on the Saturday night, and Breakfast with the Stars on Sunday - as well as take advantage of a jam-packed main program. All events are ticketed, except the children’s program which is entirely free thanks to generous support from Bell Bay Aluminium and South 32, two companies who support community
particularly when it is directed for improving the lot of children and youth in the Tamar region.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our much-valued corporate sponsors, supporters and collaborative stakeholders. It is most important that I acknowledge the wonderful vote of confidence shown in the Festival by the State Government thanks to a $180,000 funding commitment over six years through Events Tasmania and a gratifying $20,000 funding package from the West Tamar Council.
And, best of all, the Festival enjoys extraordinary enthusiasm from the Tamar Valley community - in just four short years they have embraced the rich cultural experience this biennial event brings. Long may it continue - with your support it will!
Mary Machen, Festival President.

BUILDING WORLDS WITH WORDSwith Finegan Kruckemeyer
A half-day journey through an ageless artform, this workshop sees participants writing as one, as some and as many, as we delight in the joy of fashioning landscapes and inventing populations. Working from the macro to the micro, you will imagine worlds that hold countries, and countries that hold counties, and counties that hold mountains, and mountains that hold cities, and cities that hold citizens – a litany of citizens. And from here, you will make the final authorial leap, entering into the mind and heart of a protagonist, and telling us what you find.
