and to Mary Help of Christians and you will see what miracles are."

-St. John Bosco

What’s new in the bookstore?

The St. Agnes bookstore has wonderful gift items for those cel-ebrating their First Communion this year. Prayer books, Rosaries,

and other items are available. The popular New Roman Missal by Fr. Lasance is back in stock! This missal is a favorite among those who practice the Traditional Latin Mass and includes the complete Latin and English text for the Ordinary and Propers of the Mass. This is an original 1945 reprint without revisions, although additions were made according to Papal decrees from 1945 to the end of Pope Pius XII’s reign. This missal can be hard to find, so stop in today!

Let’s meet for coffee—TODAY! St. Agnes welcomes everyone to coffee hour after the 9am and 11am Masses today, Sunday, May 19th. Join us! Coffee and light treats will be served in the lower church hall.

Father’s Day Spiritual Bouquet

Enrollment is now open for St. Agnes’s Father’s Day Spiritual Bouquet. Pick up an envelope in the rectory office, fill out your information, and include your offering. Your envelope will be placed on the Altar for the month of June. You will also receive a special Mass card to send to your intention. A no-Mass-card envelope option is available if your intention is deceased.

Memorial Day Schedule

On Monday, May 27th, we observe Memorial Day. St. Agnes will offer Mass at 8:10am and 12:10pm. The church will close after the 12:10pm Mass and there will be no Confessions that day. The rectory office and the bookstore will also be closed. We will resume our schedule on Tuesday.

2nd Collection: The Church in Central & Eastern Europe

This week our second collection is for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Even though the fall of com-munism occurred more than 20 years ago, the Church is still struggling to rebuild. Often, churches in this region are deteriorating, leaving the faithful with no place to worship. Your support of this collection is greatly appreciated.

First Saturday Devotion In the Church, the month of May is dedicated to Mary. There are many devotions available to us, including “First Saturdays.” What is the “First Saturday Devotion?” On the First Saturday during 5 Consecutive Months, the Devotion consists of: 1. Going to Confession 2 Receiving the Eucharist 3. Saying five decades of the Rosary 4. Meditating for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the Rosary

All this offered in REPARATION for the sins of blasphemy and ingratitude

committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The five first Saturdays correspond to the five kinds of offenses and blasphemies committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. They are: 1. Blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception 2. Blasphemies against her virginity 3. Blasphemies against her divine maternity, at the same time the refusal to accept her as the Mother of all men 4. Instilling indifference, scorn, and even hatred towards our Immaculate Mother in the hearts of children 5. Direct insults against Her sacred images

Tips for the First Saturday Devotion: Confession may be done on days other than the First Saturdays, so long as one receives Our Lord worthily and

has the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Even if one forgets to make the intention, it may be done on the next confession, taking advantage of the first

occasion to go to confession. Need even more help? Just ask a Priest. On behalf of Christ, he can give you permission so this practice is more doable for you. It is not necessary to meditate on ALL mysteries of the Rosary on each First Saturday. In fact, focusing on one

mystery for all five decades is a great way to take your thoughts/meditations to a deeper level.

Guidelines for Receiving the Eucharist As Catholics, we believe that the Eucharist really is the Lord—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. It is not a symbolic gesture, but truly Him who we receive. There-fore, we must properly prepare, showing respect and rever-ence. How to do this? Be prepared by being in a state of grace. If you are in

mortal sin, Church law says that you cannot receive the Eucharist. Make a plan to go to Confession.

Be prepared by fasting 1 hour before receiving the Eu-

charist. This is Church law for all Catholics. Water and medicine are allowed. Question? Ask a priest.

If you receive in the hand, make sure your hands are

clean (no gloves!). Consume the Eucharist immediately. For the safety

of the Blessed Sacrament, you MUST consume the host immediately; you may not take it back to the pew with you. If you cannot abide by this rule, do not present yourself for Communion.

Return to the pew, kneeling until the remaining hosts

are returned to the Tabernacle. You are in the Presence of the Lord; kneeling at this time is important. If you have a physical disability, sitting is allowed.

Take time to make your petitions and also offer

Thanksgiving for graces received. This is your time to focus and intimately speak to the Lord/the Heavenly Father/the Holy Trinity.

Venerable Fulton Sheen on Mercy

“A person is merciful when he or she feels the sorrow and misery of another as if it were his own. Disliking misery and unhappiness, the merciful man seeks to dispel the misery of his neighbor just as much as he would if the misery were his own. That is why, when-ever mercy is confronted not only with pain, but with sin and wrongdoing, it becomes forgiveness that not merely pardons, but even rebuilds into justice, repent-ance, and love.” Source: The Electronic Christian: 105 Readings from Fulton J. Sheen, Macmillan, 1979), 35.

Getting to Mass late: How late is too late?

In order to fulfill your obligation on Sundays and Holy Days, you must be present by the time the Offertory begins.
