Countless numbers are deceived in multiplying prayers.
I would rather say five words devoutly with my heart,
than five thousand which my soul does not relish
with affection and understanding.
"Sing to the Lord wisely," says the Royal Psalmist.
What a man repeats by his mouth, that let him feel in his soul.
--St. Edmund, B.C.
2nd Collection for Latin America and Home Missions
This weekend’s second collection aims to sup-port the Church in Latin America and here at home in the United States. These funds will promote the Catholic faith, but also provide assistance to those in need, including relief from natural disasters.
St. Agnes schedule for July 4th and 5th This year Independence Day falls on a Thursday. Our schedule for July 4th and July 5th will be the same: St. Agnes will offer Mass at 8:10am and 12:10pm ONLY and the church will close after the 12:10pm Mass. The rectory office will be closed, as will the bookstore. There will be no confessions. Our regular schedule will resume on Saturday, July 6th. Enjoy the day!
On Friday, June 28th, we cele-brate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Church encourages us to have a regular devotion to the Sacred Heart, which is commonly known as the “First Fridays” practice. On the First Friday of every month, we venerate and adore His Heart, knowing that it is an embodiment of His divine mercy and love. How do we do this? On the First Friday of each month, we... We say prayers of reparation for sins
committed against His Sacred Heart and the Eucharist*
Go to Confession Go to Mass and receive Holy Communion Make small sacrifices, offered out of love for Him and for the conversion of sinners. A great way to do this is
to abstain from meat on this day. Another great idea... Keep an image of the Sacred Heart with you or in your home. Visit the St. Agnes bookstore for a prayer card. *Any Catholic prayer book has prayers that are specific to the Sacred Heart. Check the index. .
The Twelve Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Jesus promises special graces to those who keep a devotion to His Sacred Heart. They include: 1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.
2. I will establish peace in their homes.
3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions.
4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death.
5. I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings.
6. Sinners will find in My Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.
7. Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.
8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.
9. I will bless every place in which an image of My Heart is exposed and honored.
10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart.
12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of My Heart that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who re-
ceive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall
not die in My disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this
last moment. Source: Mary Thierfelder, catholiccompany.com, June 27, 2014. Edited.
If you would like to practice this devotion, attending a Holy Hour on the First Friday can be helpful. St. Agnes offers a Holy Hour on the First Friday of the month, following the 5:10pm Mass. If you have a work or family commitment that makes the devotion challenging, speak to a priest for permission on how you can practice in a way that works with your schedule. (Maybe you practice on First Tuesdays, etc). On behalf of Christ, a priest CAN do this for you, so don’t hesitate to ask.
