Cleaver’s ClangersThe guy who fell onto an upholstery machine was fully recovered.

He had a photographic memory which was never developed.

Meet the Teacher NightAs part of the process of outlining to parents the College’s plans and expectations for this coming year, we encourage every family to have a representative at the ‘Meet the Teacher’ night that is being held next Thursday (20th Feb).A draft timetable was distributed in the family packs, but some small adjustments have been made. Please refer to the table below to see the times allocated for your child’s class meeting.Meetings will be held in your Primary child’s class, except for the Secondary school, where they will be held in the Church Auditorium.Would parents please note that children are to remain in the company and care of a family representative on the night, and are not to be left unsupervised on the College grounds. Playgrounds will also be off limits. We would encourage parents to attend without children as the management of them whilst attending

meetings can be problematic. Effectively, they will need to remain in the classroom with you if they come with you on the night. We look forward to seeing you there.

New Family Sausage SizzleAny new family who has a student in Years 1-12 in 2014 should have received an invitation to the New Family Sausage Sizzle being held this Thursday evening (13th). RSVPs are now closed. We look forward to meeting with these new families on this informal evening.

College CommissioningCornerstone’s annual Commissioning

Service (Prayer Launch) is an event that brings together churches from across the region to dedicate the work of the College to God. On Sunday, February 23 at 6:30pm, any interested parents, community members or students are invited to attend this time of seeking God’s blessing and to show support of staff. It will be held in the College Quadrangle at 6:30pm. Hope to see you there.

Parent Pack FormsThank you to the large numbers of families who have submitted the forms sent home in the family packs. Would those who are still to complete these documents please return them as a matter of urgency, as some are required now for upcoming events. Thanks for your prompt assistance!

Study Tips from Miss Needham’s Desk

communication between parents and staff is an area that can always do with improvement, and to aid in this, our Secondary Deputy, Mr Boyd Davey has commenced a Blog that he would like you to utilise. His blog is interactive, will feature interesting items and he encourages parents to use it to contact him to advise the College of the achievements of their children outside of the school. You can find his blog athttp://cornerstonehighschool.wordpress.com/

Important Uniform NotificationWould parents please be aware that staff will be strongly policing uniform infringements in 2014, and

students will experience consequences for failing to comply. The updated parent handbooks will be issued shortly, which will provide some clear guidelines about what is expected in regards to student dress standards. In the Secondary school, dress lengths, correct school shorts and wearing the correct uniform for the day are amongst the areas that will be firmly targeted. In the Primary, we must remind parents that girls headbands must be a plain, one colour band that is in school colours (red, black or white). Earrings must be small studs or small sleepers (max size to

Simplify Your Organization System

The more organized you are, the less you have to think. Your organization system should be simple enough that you don’t have to make any decisions about where you put new assignments, where to find completed assignments, or what to do with graded assignments. You shouldn’t have to go through a mental checklist every time you study because your organization system does it for you.

The fewer decisions you need to make, the more your thoughts and energy can focus on things that matter. Thus the simpler your system, the better. Consider these four questions to determine how simple your organization system is right now:

Do you have only one place for each category

of assignments: not completed (“to-do”), completed (“to-turn-in”), and graded (“to-file”)?Do you have only one place where you keep your notes for class?Do you have a system to make sure that all assignments get on your calendar or in your diary?Do you have a system to focus on what needs to be done today and not just what’s due

tomorrow? When you can answer each of these four questions without thinking, you’ll know that your organization system is simple enough to be a major asset in 2014.

a 5c piece). Full details will be provided in handbooks but for now, we ask that parents be aware that the College is taking a strong stand against variances to the standard uniform in the coming year.

Parent Assembly ChangesDue to continued growth at the College, changes have had to be made to the time and frequency of the Primary School’s Parent Assemblies. This year, there will be four Parent Assemblies per term, which will, in turn, be hosted by a particular class who will present an item for the enjoyment of the audience of the day. These assemblies will be held at 2:00pm on a Thursday, and are scheduled for weeks 4, 6, 8 & 10. Keep your eye out for

details in the newsletter to ensure you are aware in advance of your child’s class involvement. Most children love having a parent in attendance and so the newsletter will give advance notification. The first Assembly is on Thursday February 27, and will be the Year 5 (Miss Haythornthwaite) class who provides the leadership of the day. We hope to see parents supporting this again in 2014.

Allergy AwareThis year we have two children in our Primary school who have a severe form of allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and is potentially life threatening. These students are anaphylactic to eggs and nuts. Anaphylaxis is always treated as a medical emergency and requires immediate

treatment with adrenaline. It can be fatal if not monitored. These two students will react if they are touched on their body (e.g. arm, leg etc.) by another child who has eaten a food product containing egg in its purest form or nuts and they will require immediate treatment with adrenaline. To reduce the likelihood of a medical emergency we would appreciate your cooperation by excluding nuts and eggs from your child’s lunch box. A letter that has been produced regarding this matter can be found at http://www.corners tone.wa.edu.au/wp-content /uploads/2014/02/Egg-and-Nut-Aware.pdf, or by clicking electronically the link here.

Board ShortsCornerstone Christian College is governed by a Board which is made up of Directors. It is the Board’s intent in coming newsletter issues, to communicate with the College community about elements of their role and provide updates on current developments. The Board’s role is to set the school in the right direction, and they appoint College Principal, Mr Bruce Douglas to put these plans into place. Mr Douglas is also a voting member of the Board and part of the decision making process, and is also responsible for the day to day management of the College. Part of this role is to employ the staff who will help fulfil the vision the Board has for Cornerstone. The Board holds an oversight position, and does not deal with the running of the College unless matters arise that affect the governance of the school as a whole. Effectively, the Board sets the destination, and Mr Douglas, with the support of his staff, work out the best course to deliver that outcome. The Board deals with overall issues such as school growth, governance policies, financial management, Christian perspectives, and vision. Next newsletter, we will introduce you to the remarkable men and women who take on this role.
